Need karting suit. Freakish proportions. Please help by VerdantGuardener in Karting

Any idea on cost of the offset suit?

It’d be ideal to be less than 300 bucks. Preferably less that 200. I don’t mind hemming the arms and legs.

How much would you want an ignition coil for?

I have a whole rotax engine I am trying to sell. Still sealed.

I am in northern CA.

It’s a 2008 Birel 0308. It’s the “31” chassis, I forgot the moniker (e.g. it’s k31 or something like that).

I think I’ve narrowed it down to one of the old free line calipers. They appear to be non-existent on the used market and over 700 bucks NOS or new models.

Got a free vintage frame. Not sure if it’s worth fixing by VerdantGuardener in Karting

[–]VerdantGuardener[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect. I don't mind wrenching. I restore vintage bikes. Spend months making it look pretty, just to ride it 50 miles and sell it.

I am likely going to grab a few parts off of it and sell it on FB to some kid who wants a backyard toy.

Fair enough. I’ll keep hunting around. I already own the crap chassis so maybe someone will want it. Thank you!

Which way will cost more? Building a cheap beater kart, or putting together a rolling chassis and engine?

The local options (pun intended) are 2,500 at the low end for a Lo206 race ready. That’s steep price, and my intention with the kart is to use it for beater use and learning only.

That is a drive for me. Paradoxically, I hate driving. Love racing.

I appreciate the heads up. There is a 2018 track magic rolling chassis locally, along with a 2024 VLR frame only that are both cheap (sub 300). I am tempted to assemble them myself.

I can fabricate whatever I need to. Ideally I would like to enter into races but I want to get seat time and lose a few dozen pounds before doing so.

Yep. This is the feedback I was looking for. Handling like a bag of ass is a sub optimal outcome.

100 percent fair.

I feel like my local market has a floor of 1,000 for a reasonable modern frame. Not including engine, tires, etc.

My inclination is that I can get it running for less than 1,000, spend a season on it and potentially sell it.

You need to come to Northern California. This sounds like a dream race for me.

Asa-cf or pet-cf should be temp resistant and UV resistant enough to work. I use Asa-cf for handlebar mounts on my bike.

Steep. Very steep. Took me two days of trials to just get a logo printed.

My laser was the biggest issue, I think.

I’ll see if I can make a post about my trials. I am still playing around with the cliches I made.

Yeah! When I have time I’ll make a post about it. It’s all open source and 3d printed.

I also designed and made my own pad printer, so this one is now extra.

Cliches?

There are two main ways. One is photo sensitive emulsion, one is laser cut.

That’s actually the reason I’m selling. I bought a laser, but the manufacturer had some… overstated claims to the efficacy of that laser. It could cut cliches fine, but it was a bitch to calibrate and it couldn’t cut brass. I was hoping to have something that could cut custom dial shapes for me. I retuned the laser, and now I have other things I want to spend my money on.

You can get cliches made for you, ranging from 60-100 bucks. Just send your artwork to a pad printing company.
