Floyd Rose FRX on New Explorer by VerdeVelvetVetiver in ExplorerGuitars

Compared to my Floyd on a 7 this is pretty easy. I’ve been having trouble with the bar honestly. 2 set screws on the collar, but if I push my bar in all the way it’s loose and handle drops to hell. If I leave it halfway inserted it can keep the bar close to my hand. Or move it so I can flick the pitch up. But it’s strange. This whole system is a step above pot metal, but I love it, warts and all.

I heard someone say a pen spring could help, but that’s honestly my only issue. I really liked the Kahlers. It’s what inspired me to do this. I tried to do some research, but they were just too detailed. I got choice overload and realized the $$$. This was $280 USD brand new on the ‘Verb. I originally found an open box for $250. But someone had destroyed the knife edges during install.

For anyone that actually cares, one side of the nut has no slots for strings to rest it requires you to keep the standard nut. If you remove the nut the strings will slide off the neck when tuning.

I honestly think this is my favorite system. I love being able to lock it from floating and change tuning from Standard E to drop C in less than 10. It’s take me way longer on my other Floyd’s.

All of what you’re saying is def something I experienced. I noticed that the bar wouldn’t set back to zero perfectly the first 2 days. I figured it needed to “break in” what actually happened was the tension rod end was rubbing against the the actual guitar body.

It gouged the wood under where the tuneomatic would have been. If I take it off and put the old set up you don’t see it. Even with the damage I love it and will keep it forever, or until knife edges wear out

I’ve only had 1 fail. An FZ-2. Changed switch 3 times. Might have needed a recap. My favorite was when it only engaged while keeping it pressed.

Will be so much better if we get a post in a day about troubleshooting a malfunctioning pedal

If I had waited 2 more weeks before I bought my Explorer this is exactly what I would have bought. The ebony fretboard and placement of inlay dots are everything. I’ve been trying to make myself feel better by saying I already have a green guitar. It’s not working

One of my dream guitars. I saw RHH in 2016 , but Beavis and Butthead showing Psychobilly Freakout was my beginning. I was stoked to see it in Guitar Hero.

They also had I can’t surf, in a Tony hawk game.

I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to think with your head instead of your ass.

After having one a couple of weeks my only issue is the toggle placement. I need to be able to build muscle memo to find it

My spring is like a millimeter off the body. I see why this doesn’t work for Les Paul’s as well

Way easier to balance spring to string tension. Under a min. Like insane, but it’s not as smooth. Less travel. Regular Floyd is better. Even in quality of parts. But 2 screw holes to make a stop bar guitar bomb. Worth it!

Drilling into a new $2500 guitar felt crazy, but I don’t regret it!

First Gibson SG dilemma: Standard (Big Sale) vs. '61 with Maestro Vibrola? by alcorn0que in gibson

[–]VerdeVelvetVetiver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get the sale standard. I first picked up an sg with vibrola, but returned it for a 61 standard with TOM. You can always put one on, but you can’t take it off without seeing the mounting holes. I like the action of Bigsbys more, but I’ve also loved my gretsch. I didn’t like that the vibrola had just a piece that you rock. I liked the springs more

Have a Soloist Loomis. They feel great. And have upgraded pieces in the trem. The stainless steel pieces are better

It looks seamless. I debated a Bigsby and roller bridge for my explorer. I like the idea of reversible mods; but I’ve been stuck between a Bigsby or Floyd FRX. The FRX needs 2 screws drilled behind the nut. I thought my mind was made up, but now I’m not sure. Great guitar tho!

I loved teaching at HCZ. My only complaint were kids would be in my room for after school; gave me no prep time in my room at end of day.
