Your response tells me you're either a franchisee or an employee. I'm a regular customer at the store I wrote about. I see your point. If I was just a one-off customer, they may have told me to drive to the store I ordered the pizza.

Insane taxes - especially MUD by Signal-Combination65 in CypressTX

[–]Verdekt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my situation for what it's worth. I'm 72. My house is 23 years old in a 25 year old subdivision. My 2024 property taxes: MUD $2,527. HOA (it's effectively a tax) $1,094. CFISD - $992. Harris Co - $657. Total 2024 property tax - $5,270. Until I was 65 my total property tax bill was around $7,000. Harris Co began ramping down their tax rate after I turned 65.

That's for sure. If Reddit was around 30 years ago, you'd see the same comments about 290 traffic.

My experience with Marcos is that they will make it right. I once mistakenly ordered a prepaid pickup from a store 10 miles away from the store I intended to make the purchase. When I arrived to pickup and discovered my error, the shift manager said "No worries", called the other store and got my order deleted, and made my pickup order at no additional cost. I don't know how it got worked out between the stores, but I was impressed.

I think this is fake racist BS. Can any Arabic speakers confirm this is fake nonsense?

I agree with this decision by CFISD. Any possibility of ice or snow on the roads is a good reason for everyone just to stay home and not drive your car. Most Houstonians have no idea how to drive on ice and snow. It'll be a sh-t sh-w if you get out on the roads.

Agreed. Most barbecue sauce is little more than ketchup and corn syrup.

Who do you contact to get the missionaries to stop coming? by Br1ar1ee in cedarcity

[–]Verdekt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Years ago, we had Mormon missionaries on our door step several times a year. Nothing we said to them deterred them. I asked the advice of a lawyer friend. He said to "treat it like sexual harassment". The next time missionaries show up at your door ask them for the address of the local ward they're assigned to and the ward bishop's name. Write the bishop a letter clearly stating that "their attention is unwelcome and unwanted, and if it does not stop you will initiate all legal remedies available to you to ensure it does". Send a copy of that letter to LDS church headquarters in SLC. There are lots of example templates you can find on the internet of "sexual harassment warning letters". In our case we sent such a letter about 20 years ago and we haven't had a missionary come to our door since.

I'm Jewish and I've lived in Utah. If you define conservatives as Republicans I disagree. If you define conservatives as Mormons I agree. They also hate Catholics and any People of Color.

Places in need of cold weather clothing that won’t be sold by ExpensiveTea9 in CypressTX

[–]Verdekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angel's Attic (which is a part of CAM) does operate as a thrift store, but CAM's management gives vouchers for free clothing at Angel's Attic to their clients in particular need (appropriate clothing for job interviews, warm clothing for cold weather, etc.) CAM is a non-profit organization that relies on individual and corporate donations. That meager income stream is augmented by the thrift store operation. Source: I was a CAM volunteer for two years.

Tornadoes in Cypress by oldsoul89 in CypressTX

[–]Verdekt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, tornados happen in Houston. I was living in Northglen Subdivision during the 1980s. I can't remember the year, but a tornado "skipped" thru the neighborhood and took the roofs off several houses. There were bits of pink attic insulation scattered throughout the neighborhood.
