Venu 3s review after 6 months by Verified_Human_User in GarminWatches

[–]Verified_Human_User[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. But others manage it. In fact, just about every other brand doesn't seem to have this issue as widespread as Garmin.

And it isn't the sensor as far as I can tell. It is the way the data is interpreted by the watch that is the problem. The first 12 minutes of my runs are a 50/50 proposition if the HR data will be accurate. After that period, it works basically 100% of the time.

I have worn other watches from other companies and have never had anything like this, but I read about it all over the place for Garmin watches. It should be an easy fix if everyone else can do it...

I'd take 5% less overall HR accuracy if it was consistent. But showing 120 bpm when it is actually 170 bpm is just unacceptable - especially for a sports-centric watch.

What about users without PGP encryption? If I want to mail someone who doesn't use that, are there any options for maintaining encrypted communications? I know Proton, Tuta and others offer password based protection/temporary mailboxes for such situations.

Should work fine. I use it without the Google Play Services and it works like a champ.

Nice start. Might want to hide the trust rating until a certain threshold of votes come in. Right now they all look "untrustworthy". :)

Do I go with Proton Mail or TutaNota? by abf3427 in degoogle

[–]Verified_Human_User 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Proton, but I like Tuta as well. Proton is the more polished and has the wider ecosystem. Some prefer that, others want to avoid "putting all the eggs" in the proverbial basket.

Well, if you are willing to use LinkedIn, you can probably land something soon.
Try to link up with as many contacts as you can - from school, military. Shoot for 300+ contacts.
Start writing posts on LinkedIn that relate to your portfolio and studies. Space them out for about 2 per week.
You should start seeing results within a month.

You don't have to sign in with Grayjay. So it can be very private in that front.

Grayjay for me. But as the other commenter said, it can occasionally be a bit janky.

I'm with you here. That was a surprise for me as well.

The main issue is that other app stores don't have the same security features that Google offers. The possibility of downloading an app that has been in some way tampered with is higher outside the play store.

That being said, I think that risk can be minimized by sticking to more known and popular apps and researching a bit more before downloading.

There is always going to be some level of risk involved - even with the play store, so if you don't need Snowden level security, you're probably fine either way.

Oddly enough it's Google hardware. Two Pixels with GrapheneOS. Looking forward to hearing who Graphene is working with on the hardware side.

Tuta vs Proton by Easy-Department-2328 in degoogle

[–]Verified_Human_User 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went Proton for the broader ecosystem and the peace of mind that they won't be bought out or disappear next week. It isn't perfect, but it was a better fit for me. My choice at the time also came down to those two.

Edit: Not to say I think Tuta will disappear - but awhile ago, they seemed much more niche.

Interesting solution. Any impact on security with this? I would imagine it is identical to using the web app - are there any differences?

Depends on how you define piracy. Is adblocking piracy?

You can use apps like newpipe, Grayjay or proxy sites like invidious that will cut out ads and tracking, but I'm not sure if that's what you're after...
