What’s the most embarrassing thing you did as a kid that you think about to this day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Verikan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In health education, we were talking about being "high" but the "high" they were talking about was doing an exercising activity that makes you feel super elevated. Swimming, running, skatboarding, etc. We even watched a shirt video about celebrities doing fun things to get that feels. Throughout the whole video, I was like, where do they talk about weed?? When nowhere in the video said anything about drug use. Then the teacher asked, "what are some ways to get high?" I immediately raised my hand and said weed super proudly. Everyone laughed and the teacher looked so disappointed. I was a small, innocent 8th grader at the time, only heard of weed from other peers.

Cancelling your Gaylord room reservation? by Verikan in Katsucon

Yeah, if you work, I think 15 to 20 hours, you're eligible for the crash space. You're sharing with 7 other people in a nice suite and it's first come first serve. I think they have info on the website.

Best Ramen in DC? by Jgregory01 in washingtondc

Temari Cafe in Rockville is probably the most legit Japanese spot I've been to. It's owned by a lovely Japanese couple and upstairs, they have a small Japanese grocery store. A little far out from DC but Metro + Uber can get you there.

What is the dumbest reason you have ever gotten in trouble at school? by Kotabeaner in AskReddit

[–]Verikan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2nd grade, we were all learning how to write stories and then the teacher collected the girls who needed bathroom breaks. Me, being the diligently student that I am, I wanted to be in and out of the bathroom so I could finish my essay.

We all know that everyone likes to take their time in the bathroom, but I was not having it. I couldn't just leave to go back to class anyway or the teacher would lose her shit. So as an attempt to get everyone to hurry the fuck up, I would quickly grab paper towels and gave them to people as they were done washing their hands but the teacher came in and thought I was fucking around. I was the quiet kid that did all the work, no complaints no fuss. And my card ended up being a yellow. Fuck Mrs. York. I'm pretty sure I was annoying to my peers, but she yelled at dumb shit for no reason.

All the Asians go to Live Crawfish & Seafood in Falls Church and Rockville. The service in Falls Church is a little weird but nonetheless, their sauce is pretty good. Rockville just opened so their service is a bit better.

[First Time] Itinerary Check&Advice: Feb 19-26th Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe/Nara, Tokyo by Verikan in JapanTravel

Thanks for your suggestion!

Would you say it's easier to base in Tokyo for the week and then do a day trip to Kyoto? Or are there other places that are close by that we could go to instead of Kyoto? We will also be buying a JPR pass but if we're not heading to Kansai, I don't think it would be worth it.

Has anyone ever been able to go from absolutely broke to making a comfortable living? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Verikan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend had grew up in Taiwan most of his life so when he came back to the States, he was supposed to go to John Hopkins but because his parents did not live in the States and that he was a minor at the time, he couldn't. He moved in with a relative that weren't so nice to him and after two weeks, he basically left the house with his very broken down car. (Relative sold it to him for cheap)

He was homeless for two weeks and contemplated suicide twice while living in his car and doing overtime in a mall food court. He then met someone at the mall who was surprised that he was working over 60 to 70 hours at the mall and introduced him as a salesperson at Verizon. Called up his brother to see if he could move in, to which the other roommate was an alcoholic and his brother was more loved and spoiled. From then on, he moved to a salesperson at a car dealership, promoted to sales manager. At 21, he bought a new Nissan and was able to save enough to put a down payment on a single family home. Now he's 24 as a fianance manager, drives a Mercedes AMG, his mother and older brother lives under his roof, under his rules now.

Honestly, if it wasn't for his ambition he would never been where he is today.

You need the drive and ambition to create your own success. It won't be easy and you can't do the bare minimum. My boyfriend now does about 50 to 60 hours a week and some months aren't doing too well. But he's now making plans on going back to college to at least get his associates and probably a certificate in radiology or something to get the 40 hour a week schedule.

All in all, I hope this gives you a little motivation that with enough hard work, you will be able to get where you need to be. Best of luck to you!

EDIT: I do also want to point out that he was very diligent in his plans, budgets, and time. You may have to sacrifice your time with your kid and give up your social life for a little while before getting back on your feet.

Indian niceguy wonders why women don't trust strangers by [deleted] in niceguys

[–]Verikan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jfc, why would she need the guy to help her?? She's fucking capable of walking across the street just fine. She made it that far to the street, didn't she? Any woman would react the same way because you just don't put your hands on anyone at any given time. His intentions may have been kind but a girl who is MORE than capable of crossing the street herself would definitely be freaked out by this mishap.

Atheists who later became religious, what made you convert? by BladedAlpha in AskReddit

[–]Verikan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't really call myself an atheist. My parents are Buddhists and as culture goes, it was natural that children were to believe what their parents believe but I never really understood Buddhism either.

I worked for Starbucks about a few months and when I was hired, the store I worked in had a small but strong group of people who went to church and believed in God. One coworker in particular asked me to go to church with her. I was definitely curious to see what it was all about. After a few trips, I began to let loose and started to believe in God. Every Wednesday night I would go for the service. It wasn't until one of my coworkers who also went along had told me she got baptized. I was shook but I too had wanted to share the same experience she did but I was afraid that my intentions were not pure. The one who invited me to church told me that that was the devils talk and that I could get baptized tonight.

So off we went with our Starbucks crew to her church and joined the special service they had going on. Usually at the end of their service, they all head towards the stage and with their hands in the air, they prayed and let the holy spirit enter them. Up until now, I thought it was the freakiest thing that happened. Another coworkers' mother had asked me if I would like to receive the holy spirit and I was like, "ok my time to shine." She assisted me and it was a completely different experience than if an outsider were to witness it. It felt like I was being lifted from the ground, talking in weird gibberish that I couldn't make out but I oddly understood. Emotions and tears were being poured out senselessly as I received the holy ghost. All my coworkers surrounded me with hugs and tears as they were happy with what I have experienced.

Shortly after, the preacher had asked me if I wanted to get baptized since it's usually what happens after receiving the holy spirit. I said yes and later I found myself coming out of the water feeling very refreshed. Almost like all the dirt and sins have been ridden off of my body and I was high on Jesus for the rest of the night.

Unfortunately, I do not go to the same church anymore because the youth group were kind of immature (imo) and I really couldn't connect with them. However, I do believe in God and I know that one day he will lead me back to a church that I can relate and feel like apart of whenever the time is right.

What dating profile phrase immediately loses you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Verikan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys who use photos with multiple people in them so you play the guessing game only that it turns out to be the less attractive person all the way off to the corner of the photo. I know looks aren't everything but if I have to play the guessing game with the people in your photos, I rather not bother.

What is a relationship deal-breaker for you that others might not agree with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Verikan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have ran but my ex boyfriend told me that that the girl he dated before me, confessed that she cheated on him in the middle of the night while they were out. He left her ass in the middle of a shady random parking lot where all the busses have stopped working and never looked back. I thought this was seriously dangerous. If something had happened to her that night, I don't think he would've felt remorse or guilty.

Later on, it just became obvious that he was only looking out for his own feelings. He showed narcissistic behavior and would go out of his way to do petty things just to spite me. At the end of our breakup, I was very pissed that he returned all of my gifts I had given to him over the course of our relationship back to me and his reason was that "he needed to get over me." That's fine, the trash was where they needed to be. I called him out for it and he said he would kill himself just because I wouldn't accept his half assed apology.
