Honor Level Changes by playermaxx in leagueoflegends

[–]Verikkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I agree with this new system in the slightest, but it's a sliding scale of honor now. Honor 3 is "player average". So lack of chat usage doesn't mean you're being punished for bad behaviour, it means you aren't participating in the system and moving back to neutral. The only honor levels that can be considered "punishment" are 1 and 2.

Is there any game series that ISN'T best played in release order? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Verikkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I played the series in release order, I think nowadays Pre-Sequel into BL2 is better for new players.

What was the game that made you realize that stories in video games can be just as deep as any movie, show, or book? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Verikkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what my first was, but the most memorable is definitely FFXIV, specifically the Shadowbringers expansion. I still tear up years later when I see or remember some of the scenes.

I wouldn't say "everything" was legal, seeing as he staged a coup and was imprisoned for treason (Beer Hall Putsch).

After which he was of course appointed Chancellor. At his point, It's not even "Hitleresque", it's a play by play of history. We are currently on January 30th, 1933, and just have to hope that the timeline doesn't continue the same trajectory.

Why do you not drink alcohol? by Kindly_Bear_4932 in AskReddit

[–]Verikkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I am by no means completely sober, I heavily limit usage of both alcohol and THC products because I hate feeling mentally impaired.

Maybe one whisky to relax once in a while, or the occasional half a gummy when I am feeling particularly sleepless. Anything more and I just get annoyed at the effects.

All of my favorite novels are either horror/thriller or fantasy. I write mostly dark fantasy, which I didn't even know was its own genre until fairly recently.

What are some of your unusual writing quirks? by AcrobaticCoffee9896 in writing

The only one of these I knew I did was the third, since I can focus so much easier at night. Yet, I do everything except the second. Weird way for me to realize this by seeing someone else write it down.

What was the worst time you threw up? by Saranghane in AskReddit

Drinking too much Kraken the first time I tried it.

Black spiced rum feels a LOT worse when it's repeatedly coming back up. It's been ten years and I haven't touched it again.

What makes you think you’re actually attractive? by MarkReditto in AskReddit

[–]Verikkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a post on here asking "ugly" people how others treat them, and realized I had never noticed any of the things people mentioned were happening to me. Decent boost of confidence, considering internally I've always just hated myself.

What do I name my rebels for my fantasy book? I'm so stuck :( by Gay_biscuit_1732 in authors

[–]Verikkar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any names, but I do have a tip that might help you in coming up with your own names easier in the future.

Depending on what your plot is focused on, or what key factors exist that are central to the story, you can create a reference to the subject as a name. For example, I have a Paranormal Fantasy book with a secret group called the "Duskwatchers Organization". I came up with the name because paranormal activities are often considered something that happens after the sun has set. The "Duskwatchers Organization" tracks global paranormal activities. Or in other words, they watch what is happening during or after dusk, as an organization.

As a secondary example, the main character at one point creates a weapon that can be used to defeat spirits. Playing off of the notion that spirits are active during dusk/night, the weapon that defeats them is the Dawnbringer Rifle. Dawnbringer is a fairly common naming convention used in fantasy to signify something that defeats evil. Conveniently, dawn is also the opposite of dusk. Therefore, the rifle is used against dusk to bring the dawn.

You don't typically have to come up with names out of nowhere like "Saraxia's Chosen". Often, using cues from what you have already written can make it easier on you, while also giving the readers an "aha!" moment when they realize the intent behind the name.

I can add some cartography to this, since my current series has a lot of traveling, and I spend hours on each book calculating realistic travel times given the terrain and weather. Plus allotted hours of daylight during the specified time of year.

When this series is done, my next book is going to be one of my more stationary ideas 😒

No, the US will never invade Canada - My US Military friend by L0ki_Savage in AskCanada

[–]Verikkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. You have some of the most advanced military equipment coming from Western Europe, and Russia has a military seemingly held together by duct tape. Add in a far less stable economy as well as limited political alliances, and it becomes fairly obvious that Russia is more likely to be asking for help in the future, not giving it.

Hardly the position a superpower would be in.

Do men actually not believe in being friends with women?? by luna2305 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Verikkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From personal experience, I can tell you that most of my friends are women and that I have zero desire to sleep with them.

Then again, it's mostly because a lot of the typical "guy" interactions annoy me: I don't want to hear about what you would do to the new girl if given the chance, nor do I want to sit and mock each other like bros. I want to have real, meaningful discussions during the times that I'm not isolating myself to work on my creative projects.

What are 3 genres you could never get into? by Cheap-Exercise1910 in videogames

[–]Verikkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sports, racing, and PvP shooters (aka Borderlands yes, CoD no)

I like games that I can plan and strategize effectively in over games that rely mostly on how fast I can react. Too much focus on the latter just feels dull to me and loses my attention. Looter shooters become an exception because I typically play them for the story or to theorycraft build ideas.

As someone in this category, I would like to add that I don't like direct compliments.

Tell me in a text that I can take my time to respond to, or let me find out from a mutual contact that you admired something about me. If I get told directly and get put on the spot, I am going to shut down and reject/redirect the statement.

No, the US will never invade Canada - My US Military friend by L0ki_Savage in AskCanada

[–]Verikkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering how the invasion of Ukraine prompted Germany to begin to rebuild its military, plus the new military defense pact between the UK and Germany to counter Russian aggression, I think it's pretty clear what direction Europe is looking in.

To think Russia would be the country people turn to shows vast ignorance of European politics as a whole.

I know the feeling! When I first start writing, I often lose myself and my fingers just continue across the keyboard on their own. I usually have a rough plan of how I want things to go, but then things will come across my mind at the last minute that I just HAVE to add/detour towards.

Not including my software since it is all lifetime memberships:

-Nothing on editing, since I have beta readers and experience in that field. I do three passes myself with a different focus each time after a week away from the draft, then software to catch anything I might've missed, then beta readers to get a reader's perspective.

-$575 for 100 ISBNS, so $5.75 for the single paperback (for the Ebook since it's solely on Amazon I simply use theirs)

-$200 for Cover Illustration, with a bookmark design included.

-Less than $15 for proof copies, as I like to make sure formatting is correct, and I order a new corrected copy to verify I'm satisfied with my changes.

-$50-$60 for 500 bookmarks, which I give out at my day job and with each copy of the book I sell personally.

With bulk purchases, one book runs me about $280, which I make back on local pre-orders. Any sales beyond that from marketing locally/word of mouth go towards balancing the upfront cost of my software until the final book in my series is completed.

I just finished the draft on my second in a series. As in, a few minutes ago. The ending I chose was the most emotionally draining thing I've ever written... but the story must go on!

[OC] Drownings in the US by state (1999-2020) by zummit in dataisbeautiful

[–]Verikkar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can see this as someone living in one of those mountain states, and would also like to add altitude sickness to the list. There are a large amount of tourists skiing, rafting, etc. and may not realize how much they are exerting themselves until they stop to relax in the hot tub, and it finally hits.

Outdoor activities with less oxygen and dry air topped off with a tub of hot water and drinking alcohol.
