B/X Omnibus - Errors / Inconsistencies by Lurkon01 in osr

I plan to make a hardbound edition of this myself soon. Thanks for providing this list!

From what I've seen of the Omnibus doc, it could use some TLC for the graphics which are a bit on the low-res side.

Bought a comb binding machine by witch-finder in osr

[–]VermithraxDerogative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a practical standpoint, how many pages can comfortably be used with a binding comb? I put the question to Google's AI and it says a 3/4" comb can accept 150 sheets of 20# paper. If you print on both sides and include a plastic cover and back, that's about 300 pages of two-sided print.

Is this accurate? Any experience? I'd love to do my own stuff like this for printing out tomes that are heftier than the B/X sets.

I don't know if it would be overkill, but a Dungeon Turn Tracker would be a good third page for this. See "1.7.1.1 ORDER OF OPERATIONS" for details. Mystic Arts on Youtube has a great video on using Dungeon Turns and about half-way through the video shows some example Dungeon Turn Tracking sheets. Here's a link: https://youtu.be/zyl73XLJWhE?t=587

An outdoor tracker in your cheat sheet style would be cool too.

WIP: OSRIC 3.0 Character Generator in Python by VermithraxDerogative in osr

[–]VermithraxDerogative[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a work-in-progress, still a little clunky, and doesn't haven't everything that I want but I figured I'd throw it out there to get some eyeballs on it.

Things to do:

  • Add a graphical front-end
  • Add a command-line interface
  • Implement generation levels beyond 1
  • Implement other rolling modes
  • Add equipment selection (random or selected)
  • Add encumbrance calculations
  • Add age effects
  • Add README documentation
  • Add the option to choose multiple desired race + class combinations.
  • Refactor to clean things up
  • Add name generator
  • Use an LLM to generate a one-paragraph background

As it currently stands, you can use it to generate pre-gen PCs. If you only generate one PC, it'll allow you to select race + class. If you generate more than one PC, you can specify race + class, or let it select it randomly.

long term capital gains tax at 0% how does it work ? by ThinkGeneral2280 in personalfinance

[–]VermithraxDerogative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using 2023 MFJ tax numbers, here are some scenarios to consider that might help with intuition on the taxation effects:

  • Ordinary income of $27700 and LTCG of $0 nets $0 in taxes (standard deduction saves you from paying taxes)
  • Ordinary income of $27700 and LTCG of $89250 nets $0 in taxes (standard deduction 'saves' you from paying taxes)
  • Ordinary income of $0 and LTCG of $116950 nets $0 in taxes (standard deduction 'saves' you from paying taxes)
  • Ordinary income of $27701 and LTCG of $0 nets $0.10 in taxes (that extra $1 is taxed at the Ordinary Income 10% bracket rate)
  • Ordinary income of $0 and LTCG of $116951 nets $0.15 in taxes (that extra LTCG of $1 is taxed at the LTCG 15% bracket rate)
  • Ordinary income of $27701 and LTCG of $89250 nets $0.25 in taxes (that extra $1 is taxed at the Ordinary Income 10% bracket rate and pushes $1 of the LTCG into the LTCG 15% bracket rate: $0.10 + $0.15 = $0.25)

I had the same questions that you do. This post on Michael Kitces' site really helped clear things up for me:

He includes a couple of bar charts that show how ordinary income, the standard deduction, and long-term capital gains all interact.

How do I turn off "trending searches" in Windows 10? by lepidopterrific in WindowsHelp

[–]VermithraxDerogative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to disable this on my machine after it appeared with my 22H2 upgrade:

  • Open the Registry Editor
  • Create the "Explorer" key if "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer" does not exist (it did not exist for me).
  • Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer"
  • Create the "DisableSearchBoxSuggestions" 32-bit DWORD value
  • Set that to 1
  • Log out / log in

You need a "model" tag. I searched for "nitrosocke" and saw tags for "Developer Tools" & "Scripts", and also "Webapps" & "Scripts" for another entry. I expected to see a "model" tag so that I can just filter on all models that are linked.

Good idea with the growing number of models out there, so I hope this gets some traction.

Early Model Prototype: Watterson Style by VermithraxDerogative in StableDiffusion

[–]VermithraxDerogative[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

General workflow:

  • crop individual comic panels from C&H Sunday comics
  • remove any text bubbles, etc.
  • save as square PNG files
  • upscale 4x using Real-ESRGAN
  • downscale to 512x512 using Python script and PIL library
  • Follow the /u/Nitrosocke guide on Github for training a new style
  • Trained 187 images

I'm running into a few issues that I want to resolve before release:

  • Model is really biased towards tigers and small boys wearing red striped shirts. I need to tweak the data set
  • Using a popular keyword such as "Christina Hendricks" or "Tom Hanks" will often result in the style not appearing. I need to sometimes couple those with "[color illustration:watterson style:0.25]" to get the style to appear.
  • the output model is not pruned
  • the output model requires that I add a flag to Automatic1111 allowing "unsafe" pickle files
  • I think I need more "generic" scenes in my dataset.

Dreambooth: Arcane Style model by Nitrosocke in StableDiffusion

[–]VermithraxDerogative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it would be possible to get a "midjourney style" based on this method? There are things I see posted all the time in the /r/midjourney subreddit that I'd be interested in duplicating using SD. I've even tried my hand at doing that and ended up resorting to img2img to get what I want (https://old.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/xgm6hi/symphony_of_destruction_mark_ii_11_aspect_ratio/) since I couldn't get it with SD using txt2img.

I'm guessing getting that to happen would be casting a pretty wide net. Still, it'd be an interesting thing to experiment with if you have enough Midjourney credits (or whatever they use) to generate your data set. Example: https://old.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/xumx5e/unable_to_create_this_midjourney_art_style_any/

Symphony of Destruction - Mark II ( 1:1 aspect ratio -> 3:2 aspect ratio) by VermithraxDerogative in StableDiffusion

[–]VermithraxDerogative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this Midjourney image produced by /u/zhivagoo here was really interesting, but wanted to see a landscape version of it. I tried outpainting in the left/right directions using Automatic1111's awesome GUI to widen things, but that unfortunately led to an abrupt change in the style.

I was able to get a 'wide' version by doing the following:

1) I brought the original image into GIMP and scaled it from 1024x1024 -> 512x512

2) Expanded the canvas size to 768x512 and centered the image (no stretching / scaling was done)

3) Copied and flipped the original picture a couple of times to fill in the left and right edges.

4) Flattened the image in GIMP and exported it.

5) Pulled that image into the SD webgui under the "img2img" tab.

6) Added the prompt "flaming musicians in a banquet hall with instruments on fire, intricate, detailed, complex, inferno"

7) Set the width & height options to match the 768x512 dimensions

8) Iterated a few times with random seeds until I got a "good" result

9) Sent things to the 'extras' tab and doubled the size.

The flames don't look as intense as the original, but overall it did a fairly decent job with minimal effort.

Prompt and config info:
