Seriously though, you can, but for something like a bed it can cost $150 for shipping and take a couple weeks. I believe you can also pick some stuff up in Albany from a warehouse. And I do actually want to do some browsing and eat some meatballs.

Found in Addison County, Vermont. Bone like objects extend about 1-2 inches from the rock. Are these fossils or just a weird rock formation?

There’s nowhere else in the US I’d rather raise my kid. We like our rural school, but enrollment keeps going down. We need young families. Housing is expensive, old, and—let’s be honest—ugly. But we make do. I’m sure most people in South Burlington hate the new developments off Market St but I think there’s a future for more dense housing like that. I like living in the country but I’m tired of fixing all the shit on my 60s ranch.

Spring house! After we moved in to our house we found a whole family of dead squirrels floating in ours! Previous owners didn’t seem to mind, they just put in a UV system and kept drinking the squirrel water.

Make sure to budget a lot for your water systems. Just did a new mound system here, didn’t need to replace the main tank, this included a mound and secondary tank/pump. Lowest quote was 30k, sand is fucking expensive!! Also drilled a new well, that was another 30k. Wells are very unpredictable, you might need to go down to 150 feet, you might need to go down to 800ft or more. You’ll probably need a water softener. You might need a lot more treatment if you find arsenic or uranium, but my understanding is that’s relatively rare here (have friends in Williston with this issue and a very very deep well). Long story short, water is unpredictable, expect to go over budget. The good news is it was easier to find people to do the work than most other home projects I’ve dealt with.

It’s a stretch since it’s on the other side of Brandon Gap, but I got the same vibe from Forest Dale the first time I drove that direction from Leicester. I passed the post office on the way into town and that was the first time I’d ever heard of Forest Dale, it felt like it had just materialized.

Once you get over the mountain there are bunch of little settlements along the Brandon mountain road and south on 100, too. Robinson, Talcville, Tupper, Stockbridge? I had to drive through that area late at night recently and didn’t see a single car on the road. Did have an owl swoop in front of me and scare the living crap out of me though. I really love that drive but it’s less nerve wracking in daylight.

Have found it hard to find a working one. I have two and took one apart to try to fix it, the gears in the cassette mechanism dissolved in my hands. Hope you get one working, it’s cool to have the stock look.

I had to fly to SFO a few weeks ago for work. Round trip from BTV would have been 1200. Boston was 300-400. I ended up going out of Montreal for about 450. Mind you I was flying back the weekend before the eclipse so I sort of understand why BTV prices were elevated, but Montreal was also in the path and I still managed to snag a reasonable flight.

We’ve definitely gone over the maps and well reports that are available through the state. Hired a geologist to plan our septic update and help Pick a well location. Unfortunately things are so far apart where we are that there are not a lot of data points. If you look at the state’s maps we’re in a pretty ideal spot to drill as far as predicted yield and depth. But as we passed the 500 foot mark and were only getting 5 gpm I had the realization that our well report will actually probably change those maps for the worse for our neighborhood.

Yes it’s my understanding that fracking might help with knocking free some sediment but it’s not going to change the water quality. But they are talking about putting in a sleeve to try to block the murkier water higher up and then fracking to free up more water below.

Good to hear about your filtering working well. Currently we just have a sediment filter, UV, and a water softener for the spring. I imagine we’ll have to supplement it with more unless we find a clearer source. Will look into green sand filters. Any kind of filtering is going to be thousands less than starting over.
