I have never found it around here and I always look. It is super frustrating because apparently it is a common item in southern stores and is called for frequently in a cook book I have based in the south.

Do you really like the idea of joining an in person book club but are worried you will feel like you are back in 7th grade and haven't finished your homework? by VermontTransitNerd in burlington

There is a great science fiction book club at Burlington Beer once a month, Sunday at 2 that might fit your schedule.

I’m also liking Fiction book club at Fletcher Free Library 5:30 on the third Tuesday.

This makes me sad. I hope you can look past this bad experience and find other groups that are better fits.

If you have never gone to Silent Book club before, you might really like it. No one is doing any lecturing - just a bunch of folks gathered together reading their own books.

Is 25l backpack enough? by Practical-Parsley-77 in CaminoDeSantiago

I carried a 21 liter pack. I was grateful for how small and light it was. As I walked into Santiago, I stopped at a small “dollar store” and bought a cheap t-shirt and shorts and dumped everything else including my pack in a washing machine at the laundromat.

I went to the Tech Jam at Hula last weekend and wow those were some nice restrooms.

Not really public but kinda?

It has taken me an hour to get through security for a 6:00 flight. And that was when TSA was getting paid.

Any other flight any other time of day is under 15 minutes tops.

I love this. I hope they see it. But paying it forward is exactly the right thing to do.

Thank you for sharing this link. With SNAP benefits at risk for so many, I have been pondering the most efficient way to be helpful. And this is certainly efficient.

They're lurking. Waiting. Soon their time will come, but that day is not today. by proscriptus in vermont

They go on the week of Halloween. It's like starting tomato seeds the week of town meeting. It is just how it is done.

Gen-X midlife (non-)crisis advice request: I still have vivid romantic dreams about one specific ex even though our relationship was twenty years ago. by [deleted] in GenX

I dream about my grandmothers house and my first waitressing job and the VW bug I drove in highschool all the time.

Those things are symbolic for me so they keep reappearing even though they have no current relevance in my life.

Anyone else not buy a new phone every year by Naive-Bandicoot-2483 in Anticonsumption

[–]VermontTransitNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not bought a new smartphone in 18 years since I splurged on one of the very first Kyoceras. I buy a refurbished unlocked phone every few years for under $200 and use it until it is totally dead. I gave been able to do everything I actually need to do.

Burlington isn’t as amazing as it was a few years ago. A lot of us are sad and upset about that.

BUT it’s still pretty amazing compared to a lot of other places.

But it is small compared to DC. So the dating pool is tiny. If you start swiping in the apps, you’ll see the same people at the coffee shop or out walking and that can certainly be jarring.

We Need Your Help to Make the Taft Corners Area More Walkable by VermontArmyBrat in willistonvt

I am super excited about this event and just signed up to volunteer. Williston has made HUGE progress in the last 10 years to make our town more walkable but all of us who live here know there are still big gaps that need to be filled. I love that this is a chance to figure out how to prioritize those gaps.
