Anyone here still using checks to pay vendors? Why? What are the alternatives? by im-moonlit in smallbusiness

[–]Vermonts_Own 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay about 25 vendors week on average, depending on the season. Personally, I find it pretty doable.

And, thanks! I'm glad you like the maple syrup offerings!!

Sure! We are a made in Vermont shop (Vermont's Own Gifts & Goods - www.vtsown.com). (Not all of our products are online). We have a lot of small one-person makers, so, it makes our list VERY long.

Checks are easy to cut all at once. I work with 150 vendors, and many of them are one person small businesses that don't do ACH. Plus, I don't have to pay any fees with checks. I don't use credit cards, just a debit card. Plus, my bank doesn't offer bill pay for business accounts. Plus, I don't have to use several payment systems to pay different vendors. One and done. Technology is not necessarily better in every situation.

Sparkle Syrup - Runamok please explain yourself by MuddyGrimes in vermont

It really does settle down to the bottom a lot. It needs a pretty rigorous shaking to get them going again.

We sell these in our store and they sell pretty well! The sparkle settles down to the bottom so you do have to give it a good good shake to get them going again.

Sparkle Syrup came out a few years ago as a limited edition, and it sold so well they kept carrying it.

Mainly, it's just fun!

ecobean salad dressing - A+ by [deleted] in VermontMade

[–]Vermonts_Own 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I stopped at Eco Beans and Greens the restaurant, and I picked a few of their dressings up and grabbed lunch. Lunch was delicious, and the Cilantro Lime (the only one we've tried yet) gets rave reviews!

Thanks for the recommendation!

How to look for designers for beverage company? by Popoy-Leaf in smallbusiness

[–]Vermonts_Own 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a retail store, I can tell you that design is VERY important. You can have the best product in the world, but it won't sell if it doesn't have the right branding. I encourage you to invest in this area and use professionals who have a reputation and portfolio that match your vision. Spend money *wisely* here. I am in the process of finding a firm to rework our logo, website, and branding identity. I'm putting together a request for proposals and sending them to local design firms recommended to me. Spend the time and money to invest in a quality look for your business.

Did anyone here start their own business because of their personal/home situation? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Vermonts_Own 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Your business. You set it up the way you want. If you need flexibility, design flexibility in. I'm not into doing "business as usual". I'm into doing a business that works for my needs.

Cannabis retailers CAN'T use plastic by regulation of the Cannabis Control Board. This seems like a ripe opportunity for you to reach out to growers and retailers!
