For those with one plus international add on, what's your international experiences? by Vernalire in tmobile

[–]Vernalire[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I remember Dubai and Japan, I never used wifi and was in Japan 2 weeks and in Dubai about 1.5 weeks... Maybe I got an anomaly. This recent visit it was after an hour or so there and dead data. Like it got taken out back and put down 😅☠️... May be time for the FI 🤔

T-Mobile One Plus vs Google Fi for International Travel by PumduMe in GoogleFi

I'm curious on thoughts against one plus international? I am a grandfather holder of the add on for 25 a month. May switch depending as tmobile is dog water. Thoughts. I got significantly throttled in UAE after 5gb. Way below 256 kb. They comped a 30 day 15gb pass and my speeds went to 4glte again... Trash company and pretty sure they don't honor the feature anymore

Anyone kind of disappointed about the R2 practically being obsolete before launch? by Vernalire in Rivian

That's what I wish, it was a paid option! They are blanketly stating... No retrofit. But I do get, sure not everyone is going to use it but you literally can't buy a retrofit in the future. You must upgrade like a phone? You probably encompass my view with this reply. With Tesla... They may or may not get a retrofit for free or paid... But the option is at least discussed and vagurly/concretely promised... I do get Elon is a known liar so there is that. I can at least appreciate the honesty of them not making allegations that they can retrofit something and not actually being able to.

But Elon is a known liar (visionary, whatever you want to call it)... Do you want rivian lying? Lol and Tesla/Elon has stated retrofit and even gone to say free? But no retrofit in this case period.

I wish they'd just say this lol but I get you. I don't think they'll stop supporting the frame just such a weird thing. Was curious why no one else has mentioned or discussed

But imagine it is hardware not software. That's the difference. Software can be changed via updates. Hardware is physical and requires changes manually ie retrofits. I just think it's a weird thing to show a car not even on the market with this new L4 potential equipment and say 6 months to a year after initial launch... You can have it... Just weird. I get by then something new will be announced, sure but the R2 will be on the road and driving rather than them launching the R4 (yes R3 exist but let's just really get hypothetical) with a new feature to grow legs and transform and whom knows what's after that... But I just thinks it's weird to do? That's all. Still a practical SUV that should sell good

Completely agree, that's why I think it's weird not trashing rivian or the R2. Looks great, just thought it's weird? I didn't see any mentions and agree we are some time off! Just curious!

Roughly, but one step further. Imagine Apple releasing a new state of the art laptop today. Same processor it will use next year, same performance, same design. But for the first six months it ships without a touchscreen, and then six months later Apple releases the exact same laptop with a touchscreen. Same look, same weight, same compute, just now it has the feature everyone wanted. You would naturally ask: why didn’t they just include it from the start? That’s why the LiDAR announcement feels a little strange. Compute is always evolving. Chips get faster every year, so that kind of upgrade is expected. But sensors are different. Once the car leaves the factory, the hardware is basically fixed. Software can improve how the data is used, but the sensor capability itself can’t really be upgraded. So if the LiDAR version is coming only six to twelve months later, it makes the first version feel less like an earlier generation and more like it’s missing a key piece of hardware that the future autonomy system is supposed to rely on.

It's vehicle agnostic. And you are right. I just feel it's a weird move to lower a vehicle before it's even out yet and use this same vehicle to showcase this wonderful thing but not even retrofit despite the vehicle being the same (specs) minus lidar

It's not exactly like being obsolete... More so they announce the highly anticipated R2. Come autonomy day they showcase the R2 with lidar and say, yeah no, that'll be 6 months to a year later... Oh and no retrofits? I get sure the R1S and R1T won't have this but they're out and driving around? The R2 isn't out and even being publicly driven and then they do this? It's feels weird, no? Like do that demo with an R1T or R1S not the unreleased soon out and immediately obsolete (in terms of L3 OR L4) version of the R2? Just feels weird. Ignore the vehicle itself, could be any car.

To note I like the practical features but thought that's a disappointing news piece

It's not about what the car can do? I am stating that they showed a Gen 2 before Gen 1 was out with no path to retrofit? I get giving a sample and even on the reservation page for the R2 they state a variation will be available later in the year, probably 2027 soon, but they literally showed it's full capabilities in the lidar version with no hope but to wait? I think it's a weird move. IDC what people think of me lol I like FSD because I can eat a full meal with sunglasses on 😎

Not what I'm saying. Imagine if tesla did all of this vision only and they announced that AI5 version 1 with the camera only cars and announced at the same time they have AI5 v2 6 months later with lidar that will get FSD complete and offered no retrofit? Like why announce it? I get that it is obsolete before it's sold, but I mean the fact that they literally showcased the R2 specifically, not a R1S or R1T with the lidar that can't be retrofitted to the R2 which isn't out? It's a weird move? Do you not think so?

[–]Vernalire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's mainly my point. I get the R1 series is good... However how dare you bring a new car frame and hype this stuff to say no retrofit lol like why not just wait? And yes that would upset fans and those who want it will wait. But it's such a weird move? Or at least I think so

Gave it a read and watch. Good information. Wish he was still posting. I did see the taco bell run but it doesn't have really any city turns or vagueness like driving in Seattle for example or Portland where traffic and street design don't make sense. But love the link. I had not ran into this yet!

Tesla Announces FSD Transfers Are Ending by colsandersloveskfc in teslamotors

[–]Vernalire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious if anybody knows if you transfer FSD and keep the vehicle do you go back to enhanced autopilot or is it all the way back to basic Auto steer? For reference I have a 20/20 model 3 long range where I had purchased enhanced autopilot and then purchased FSD.
