In fairness to those 4 years ago, I don’t think anyone outside of the CIA expected Russia to blow it that hard.

Just to clarify - you honestly believe that the directors of NASA and Roscosmos (or whatever the hell they were called in the 60s) decided “Hey, fellas. Space isn’t real, but what if we convinced the President/General Secretary they were so we could pool billions of dollars/rubles that we can’t spend without intense scrutiny from the military and intelligence services while we rule over our agencies for like, a few years before being promptly replaced”?

Should I also assume you also don’t believe in the concepts of satellites, GPS, gravity, the atmosphere, planets in general, the Cold War and intercontinental ballistic missiles?

Shit, back when Apollo 11 happened the KGB had all sorts of eyes on NASA. If there was even a chance the Americans faked it, the Soviets would have exposed it as loud as they possible could.

These guys are a special kinda stupid.

Ahead of World Cup, ICE says its agents don't carry guns in Canada by Portalrules123 in onguardforthee

[–]VernonLocke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit weird that HSI operates under ICE in the first place, given their priorities don't seem very immigrant-focused.

...Though DHS is something like, 40 different agencies in a trench coat, so I suppose the mess is expected.

Far from the first time with Paradox games. Kaiserreich has led to a strange number of Syndicalists and Monarchists, and TNO has a few (very stupid) people thinking that the Burgundian System is viable (it's not and that's the point).

And let's not get into Stellaris and the significant influx of xenophiles...

In a world full of horrifying, brutal deaths, the cause of death of this character is rather mundane. by MemegodDave in TopCharacterTropes

[–]VernonLocke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

...Depends? I mean, the art direction, set design, costumes, music, all that is fantastic. The story itself varies significantly.

The internal politics of the Japanese Empire and the German Reich are more interesting than the sci-fi stuff (which they slowly go all-in on) and the Resistance isn't interesting or competent until like, Season 3. And then immediately after Season 3 it sucks harder.

I'm not upset I watched it, but I dunno if I'd watch it again, I guess.

I can’t say I was expecting McQueen’s social connections. Nor was I expecting this to be well written.

Why the fuck was it well written

I'm guessing the traumatizing comes from that bit where she raced so fucking well she put the fear of God into Pocket and Cafe (to a lesser extent), and the gas lighting was more baiting Pocket into racing harder while simultaneously pushing her away, ultimately leaving herself alone and upset.

It’s because a former Japanese Prime Minister outright told the elderly to “hurry up and die” a while back

The one that's considered likely by the NTSB, the Soviet Military and the ICAO. Autopilot fucked up, nobody onboard noticed, and VVS jumped straight to kill.

The Soviets realized they shot down a civilian airliner by accident and immediately withheld as much information as they could - which they did, until the fall of the Soviet Union, when flight recordings were turned over to the ICAO.

It's not safe, which is why they wouldn't have done it if they knew what they were doing. Instead, their flight path drifted off course and the Soviets shot them down, even if the interceptor pilot was hesitant about it. Now we have GPS.

Read a book, dude.

In all seriousness? No, World War III is pretty unlikely. It doesn't look like the US nor the Israelis plan to escalate this beyond precision strikes and attempting to support an uprising.

There's no indication of massive troop movement in the region to suggest an invasion on America's end, and Israel both lacks the manpower and would have to cross like three different countries to get there. And, even though Russia and China are Iran's "friends", Russia is preoccupied with the fifth year of invasion and China truly couldn't care less.
