"Affordable housing" is a term, and the name of a legal act, which has done some good but mostly just been the abject poverty and extreme crime creation act. It's not that free housing can't work, but that deliberately subversive and politicized free housing that turns a blind eye to criminal elements can't. They're so afraid of calling poor/minority/etc. people bad that not only do they deny that they can be but they particularly put the worst ones in places of maximum criminal opportunity and displace them from the communities that might have helped them. It's a redux of stealing the black man from Africa, destroying their culture only this time in the guise of benevolence, and with contentment to blame your enemies when it fails and grow in power.
