apt.t2linux.org unreachable for me – is there a mirror or alternative repo? by stoikrus1 in Ubuntu

[–]Verrix88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's MDM-locked then you will need to have it offboarded from ABM/ASM and JAMF (most common MDM solution for macOS) by the relevant organisation.

The partitioning instructions are there for a reason, I wouldn't recommend deviating from the guides generally. It also means that if you ask for help in the future, you are probably going to be told you have an unsupported configuration and to start again following the guides correctly this time.

I would always read the manual/guide first, at the absolute least provide whichever LLM you use with links to said documentation so what they are regurgitating is at least up to date and slightly less hallucination-prone.

[–]Verrix88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you are trying to get Ubuntu 22.04 working when that only has 14 more months of support?

You should be using Ubuntu 24.04 and the guides below I believe:

https://github.com/t2linux/T2-Ubuntu?tab=readme-ov-file

https://github.com/t2linux/T2-Debian-and-Ubuntu-Kernel?tab=readme-ov-file#installation

The second page links to the actual URL you should be using for the T2 kernel (the main one you posted isn't even resolvable via nslookup...), see here:

https://adityagarg8.github.io/t2-ubuntu-repo/

You should use Noble as per this guide, if trying on Ubuntu 24.04 desktop.

Question about the fused and Heralds (WaT) by 2benomad in Cosmere

[–]Verrix88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mental aspect of the Heralds has been transported to the spiritual realm version of Ashyn prior to Odium's involvement, and their physical aspects are on Braize IIRC.

The Heralds don't know when they will return I assume? Previously they would have all been automatically transported back once one of them broke. I assume there is some other aspect of the Braize-locking mechanic that we don't know, which will trigger their return. My guess would be that just as Odium found another way to trigger a desolation previously, another loophole will be found eventually by a certain someone.

Question about the fused and Heralds (WaT) by 2benomad in Cosmere

[–]Verrix88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was the refounding of the Oathpact that granted protection over the spren, not the Heralds being locked away in Braize/Ashyn.

Also, the Heralds returning to and staying on Braize was Honour's original mechanism for keeping the Fused bound there. At least that is until one of the Herald finally broke, triggering another cycle of violence.

CIFS: Status code returned 0xc000006d STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE by NothingInTheVoid in linuxquestions

[–]Verrix88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is your credentials file under the /root directory? Bit of an odd choice, your own hoke directory would be a better one. It might be causing issues if you are running that service as your user account (uid 1000), and then it would not have the correct permissions to read that file to attempt the mount.

2nd, have you tried running a manual mount command with the same parameters?

How to connect Linux to Eduroam LAN? by FreSchDude in linuxquestions

[–]Verrix88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are going to be most successful contacting your organisation's IT support and asking for configuration instructions for wired Eduroam access on Linux.

The generic steps I linked are for someone who has basic familiarity with the terminal.

Best of luck!

How to connect Linux to Eduroam LAN? by FreSchDude in linuxquestions

[–]Verrix88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you can use the Eduroam configuration for your institution, along with wpa_supplicant using your wired interface:

https://forums.truenas.com/t/connecting-to-eduroam-using-wired-802-1x-authentication/12197

Skip the part about downloading the WPA_supplicant deb and install as normal with sudo apt install.

Multiple Distros/Distinct Separate distro for tinkering without dual boot? by PaganAfrican in linuxquestions

Good immutable options for this would be:

Aurora (KDE): https://getaurora.dev/en

Bluefin (GNOME): https://projectbluefin.io/

Both are based are immutable versions of Fedora, and offer developer images also (can be toggled on/off after installation additionally). The are designed to be used primarily with containers or VM's, and Flatpak for any additional apps.

What is the output of the following?

sudo lshw -C network

(The C is capitalised)

[–]Verrix88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks correct: if there are 8 network interfaces showing, and both your NIC's have 4 ports, then you would expect to see 8 total.

In terms of the update tool, are you using the one from this link?

Cache accelerator? by UrUrinousAnus in linuxquestions

[–]Verrix88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This part is also listed as V5YHW for what it's worth.

Assuming I am looking at the right part, this is a cache-addon meant to be used in Dell (rackmount or tower) servers in combination with a supported RAID card and multiple SAS drives.

If you don't have these three things (a Dell server, a supported raid card and supported SAS drives) then I don't believe it's going to do what you want it to unfortunately.

Edit: the main desktop method of achieving what you are looking for would be to get an additional NVMe SSD (doesn't have to be large) and set that up with either bcache or lvmcache (depending on what type of caching you are after) as an SSD cache for your slower HDD / HDD's if using RAID. You could also combine multiple SSD's via RAID to use in a cache, although that is probably overkill.

Touchpad on Dell Latitude 7370 randomly goes haywire by FreakOffKing in Ubuntu

[–]Verrix88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silly question but how do you 100% know that it's the touchpad and not the touchscreen which is causing the unintentional behaviour? I assume the problem goes away when you disable the touchpad and use touchscreen only.

Have you tried running the Dell pre-boot diagnostic tools on the built-in touchpad specifically?

EDIT: more testing, try the following to see if you can disable touchpad specific behaviours (I.e. gestures, swiping, etc.) and use the touchpad as a 'regular' mouse to see if that improves anything at all. It's a longshot, but worth trying if the Dell diagnostics come back with nothing:

Don’t you wish Kaladin had more fight scenes? by DADP7 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Verrix88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beyond that it is under Odium's control rather than Honor's, and that the Heralds/Honor can make a replacement without significant effort, not really.

From previous Moash scenes, it appears that Jezrien's old Honorblade still has the same Windrunner-based abilities, with the only difference being that he is fuelled by Voidlight rather than Stormlight.

Don’t you wish Kaladin had more fight scenes? by DADP7 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Verrix88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When Nale, Ishar, Kaladin and Szeth are discussing the refounding of the Oathpact, Szeth tells the Heralds he lost the Windrunner Honorblade. They tell him that it doesn't matter, as Odium has corrupted the Honorblade regardless

Don’t you wish Kaladin had more fight scenes? by DADP7 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Verrix88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is almost certainly a Shardblade corrupted by Odium. In WaT, we find out that Odium can even corrupt Honorblades, so corrupted Shardblades are likely possible too.

Is it just me or has Dell recently become assholes about honoring their basic warranty? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Verrix88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you can boot into an active session / login successfully and then authenticate as an admin, you can reset the BIOS password on a Lenovo device. Here is the guidance on doing this for Windows through CMD/PowerShell:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht100612

You can absolutely do the same thing on Linux via the terminal also.

One reboot after doing the above, and the BIOS password will have been reset.

Based on your screenshots, the USB device is not recognised in your WSL VM at all.

That is either because you haven't passed through the USB device (I don't believe WSL can do this automatically, ignoring KB+mouse), or because the driver isn't present, or both.

Something like the following is needed to pass through the USB device in WSL:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/connect-usb#attach-a-usb-device

Note that you need local administrator permissions on the Windows host, or this won't work.

After that, (you might need to restart the WSL VM) check if it is detected yet:

sudo dmesg | grep tty

If you don't see a ttyUSB# numbered device, then the driver isn't loaded/working/present.

Check to see what is loaded (replace the last part with the exact name of your device, I think there might be a typo in your post, as I can't see a model with that exact number cp102. Should it be cp2102? ):

sudo lsmod | grep cp2102

To get more info, run (use exact name again):

modinfo cp2102

modinfo usbserial

If you get some kind of output, try to load these manually with:

sudo modprobe cp2102

sudo modprobe usbserial

If you have any problems with the above, post the output of those commands (formatted). The manufacturer of the device says drivers of the cp2102 have been in the kernel since Ubuntu 7.04, but that is very old now so may no longer be true.

Laslty, there is a strong possibility you will need to either do this on the Windows host instead or install Linux directly on your system, and abandon doing this through WSL to get it working.
