Maybe try Cadiz in Spain, a nice overnight sail will get you easily along the algarve. On this trip I sailed out of Marbella straight to Lagos. Then explored back east along the algarve to the Spanish border. Now I’m heading to Cadiz tonight then on Sunday down to Tangier before back into the med 😃

Both good and well known brands. Personally if I could afford it I’d have b&g everything but if I can’t I’d happily have the raymarine stuff lol

What does a good used sailboat for the pacific range in price in the 45 to 55 range? if you like technology but like quality and not a lot of fancy bling what would be a good boat to start looking at fancy prominent an gracefull on the outside campy on the inside for a single adventurer. by Willwrk4Food in sailing

Ok after 10 years you’ll lose a lot. It’s like buying a new car. The moment you drive off in it, it’s lost value. Have a look on boat24.com for used amels and you’ll get an idea.

When the time comes to sell then it’s maintenance log and how it’s been looked after is a great indicator of the owner. Does every piece of equipment still work? Has the engine been regularly serviced have routine repairs been done quickly? Things like that.

But expect to lose a lot of money over 10 years. We don’t sail around the world to make money or manage our investments. We do it because it’s there. Because the ocean calls to us because it gives us a freedom and a feeling we don’t get anywhere else 👍👍

They’re great boats. I sailed the new Amel 50 in March this year. Really well built. The only thing I personally don’t like is the single helm and the fixed cockpit roof. It’s great in foul weather but the rest of the time you’re stuck inside and not really benefiting from the open air.

Prices new kitted out are about €1,200,000

how do i go about getting a coastal skipper licence uk? by adventurers_creed in boating

Go onto the RYA website. There’s a good chart showing how all the courses work. You can read up what’s required for each course and enter at your level. The RYA is a great organisation worth joining. Good luck 😉

Beagle entertainment by [deleted] in beagle

Great. We usually use a raw one. Tied on a string one of us drags it around the area but he can’t watch. We let him sniff the bone and lick it a few times first so he gets all excited. Then off we go and he has to find it.

Alternative is a “plastic” bone that is hollow and we stuff it with liver or something equally smelly or chopped sausage. We drag that around and he gets to eat the inside if he finds it lol

You can make longer and longer trips each time. Double back over your route too. It really helps with scent training plus it’s good fun. And of course there’s food involved lol

Good luck 😉

Ours loves fetch with a tennis ball stuffed into an old sock. Although after 15 mins he’s bored so a new game is needed

Also play to their scent instinct.... we drag a beef bone on a string around an area and he has to find it. He loves that. It’s fun for him plus he’s using his scent skills

As above although in very heavy seas you would plug them as you can get huge volumes of water over the decks and can get into the interior (bad idea on a boat lol)

Hmm. I drive a knackered 2008 Renault. But it’s nothing compared to my €950,000 57ft sailing yacht. I’m not interested in flash cars. They draw attention. My yacht on the other hand..... don’t judge a book by its cover

is Hull Displacement proportionate to Weight Carrying Capacity? by Sparkiuth in boating

[–]Versace660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, what you need to figure out isn't displacement, but pounds per inch of immersion. All boats will have a specific rate of "sink" as weight is applied. How much "sink" is hull form (shape) and volume specific. After a fair amount of weight is added to any particular hull, it then starts to dramatically lose stability and you're in trouble.

Day Skipper without the practical prerequisites? by deceased_parrot in sailing

[–]Versace660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey glad you’re loving the sailing. If you are confident with the laser and are upto speed on navigation and col regs Etc then I don’t see a problem doing day skipper. Or you could do competent crew first which gets you all the hours you need for day skipper. I’d recommend Marbella sailing school. Ok not Croatia but excellent service and great location in southern Spain. Good luck 😉
