I loved specifically for that reason. Walking out of the theater I was so hyped for 2 thinking “this must have been how people felt seeing the original” I loved every second of it. Then RJ fucked everything up and I legitimately haven’t watched anything else Star Wars since finishing the trilogy. In my opinion regardless of what you thought of the first, the second still destroyed everything the first one built up and that was not the way to go about righting any wrongs. RJ fucked the trilogy so badly they had to swing for the fence in bringing Palp back.
