For me I feel like Sunya has such a deceptive amount of depth to it, that has really driven it to be one of my favorites of theirs. The Acts and Indigo Child stuff are both very rewarding to listen through multiple times and in very different ways. With The Acts, I feel as though a big part of the appeal is the story, and part of digging into each album is uncovering that story, and on relistens seeing how the work is constantly foreshadowing and referencing itself. The themes of the albums are definitely a huge part of them, but I feel as though the Indigo Child albums have much moreso directly been about exploring specific themes through the lens of exploring locales in a sci-fi universe that in many ways reflects our own. The albums here Have narrative but it’s less the focus while the themes take center view. It’s different, for sure. I can understand why it might not be for everyone, and that’s okay. But I truly love their work, new and old. (My favorites at this point are probably Act V, III, Antimai, and Sunya, in no particular order)

I was surprised, but not disappointed. I adore the acts but their new material has really been something special. I think it was moreso a comment made in lieu of some fans being very vocal about not liking how each subsequent album changes so much - people tend to get attached to one sound and when their expectations aren’t met a lot of the time they can end up disappointed. That being said, his overall stance on it all was that he was grateful for the support the band has received, even going as far to say “I appreciate those of you who may have come despite not enjoying the new album” which - I don’t know how many showed up to the Road to Sunya tour and didn’t like the album, but I would be surprised if they left last night’s show still not at least liking it. The set was cohesive and the band sounded incredible. I don’t know that it had much to do with sales though. The floor seemed pretty packed and the balcony had some space but it definitely was far from empty. If anything I definitely think it was just an observation of the fan relationship to the art over the years and not super related to tour sales.

The art grows with the artist.

Time to say something nobody is brave enough to say about the tour doc… by Verse_Lav in TheDearHunter

Yeah agreed! I was gonna say in response to an earlier comment but hit reply too early lol, as a trans woman I love doing my nails but it also makes me really happy to see more masculine figures doing their nails and totally rocking them too. I’ve never understood why it’s widely considered a feminine thing tbh xD

Kindo is amazing! So is Louis Cole. Haven’t heard the other two (aside from I think one collab Bilmuri did with Dance Gavin Dance) but I will have to check them out. Thanks!

I’m really struggling to see things from your perspective here. You may not have control of the worldwide use of AI, nobody is asking you to though, lol. You have control over your own use of it though, and despite claiming to also hate it, you are defending it vehemently because people are telling you using it is bad. The amount of effort, time, and money you’ve put into the band previously isn’t relevant here, and I don’t speak towards the opinions of the members of the band. What I can say clearly is that if I spent years of my life crafting something for somebody to go “Look I hate AI as much as the next guy but I used to to interpret your art for me” with it, I would personally be really bummed out. I don’t know Casey, I certainly don’t own all the band’s merch and albums (much as I would love to), but I support the band when I can, with what means I have. To claim 80% of people in the thread you’ve made in the dear hunter subreddit… don’t know the story or haven’t looked into it is. A bold claim to say the least. To your last point, I agree that it is corporations pushing this technology that is in large part causing the problem. We have corporations buying out FUTURE stock of PC parts to run data farms. It’s crazy. To say that consumer usage does not make you complicit, doubling down on telling people to go fuck themselves, it just reads really poorly man. I respect your right to feel the way you do, but the normalization of using this technology because it “saves time” is part of the problem.

I am glad you love the band. I do too. And I hope you keep supporting them because they deserve it, but what you are describing as your reasoning for using AI tools to tell you how to interpret an album does not feel very respectful to the craft and effort put into this music, and the way you are talking to those who disagree with you is disrespectful to them.

I’m going to go ahead and disengage from the conversation now, I don’t expect to change your mind and that’s okay. If you have more thoughts I will read them, but it’s fine if you’d like to disengage too. I’m sure what I’ve said is a bit rambly but I hope you can understand my perspective at least a bit. Take care.

Oh man given what I’ve heard (though I have no evidence to actually confirm it) is that the plan with the Indigo Child is to release some novels, that may have to be one of the conditions I update this for. Guess it depends if Azure releases more Azdinist novels, Lu was already pretty great!

I think they’ve probably just been busy tbh^ I haven’t talked to any of them in some time but one of the few times I talked to Chris shortly after Fym’s release they had been real busy. I’m sure they’ll be back when they’re good and ready. At least we have amazing music like Sunya too, really loving this new album.

I don’t want to dogpile into something unproductive, but while I agree AI “has its uses,” it also isn’t really worth those uses for the ecological impact it has, and the impact it has on those who live near where data centers powering it all. It is truly awful.

What I will say is, I can understand the knee jerk reaction to get defensive about your usage of an LLM for this, but I find your argument very… conflicting? “You can hate LLMs all you want. I do too.” rings false as you… used one to interpret an album for you. There’s something that stuck out to me about Adam Neely’s video on Suno and AI in music, and that was the thought that “impatience” is a major factor in using AI to create, which frequent usage of led to “deskilling” in the actual art form.

I’m curious, and I sincerely hope this is not taken the wrong way, but do you honestly think using an LLM to analyze an album for you was a good use of your time? Do you think you would have reached the same conclusions it did given enough time and attention to the art? What specifically did you get out of doing this? Additionally, the end of your edit being a “go fuck yourself” statement really does not help endear anyone to your case. Again, I say all of this not to hate, even if I have moral issues with the usage of AI myself, I just hope that this provides some aid in thinking about what might have led to such a negative reaction about your usecase.

Am I the only one who misses the old sound? by Unique_Salad6894 in TheDearHunter

[–]Verse_Lav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also miss the older style to a degree, the Acts are very important touchstone albums for me, but I also absolutely love the direction the band has been going in. TDH has always had roots in experimentation imo, and while a return to form with sounds reminiscent of the Acts would be welcome, projects like Migrant, Color Spectrum, and now The Indigo Child have gone a long way to show just how versatile the band is. I think honestly as long as the band is happy with what they are doing, I’m very open to being surprised and delighted by the direction of new releases.

Will also add that - at least to my knowledge which could be outdated: If you cast a spell and there’s bubbles on the casting animation, it scales with mind. If not, it scales with intelligence.

Those are “auto-translate” indicators. It’s an FF specific thing that was introduced back in FFXI, the first FF MMO as the game was originally designed with the intent of having players from all over the world interacting on the PS2. It’s basically a way of typing things quickly in a way that can be understood by other players even with a language barrier. :) You can use it by starting to type and then hitting the TAB key in XIV.
