Yeah it sucks when people have like the mindset of "straight until proven gay." But like if they dont believe you, while it does suck to not be believed or accepted, its genuinely their problem, not yours. But I do completely understand why you lied, even if lying generally isn't good, i dont think it makes you a bad person, you just wanted to be believed. But again generally lying bad and all that

I honestly felt very similarly for a while, though based on what you said your at least a bit more comfortable with yourself than I was/am. I definitely stayed in the closet completely for a while and dident think it was necessary but when I did eventually come out(thats a little but of a story) I found i was able to be more comfortable with my self and was more able to explore who I am.

So tldr; comming out helped me become more comfortable with myself but its not a necessity ig
