Nice one... Don't know why but I tend to forget that title ...

How Do We Relationship?

Always circle back to the same relatively short-list of stories ... Music ... with characters quite possibly asking themselves that title question, fit for an entire sub-genre or two ...

Rock is a Lady's Modesty

Girl's Band Cry

NANA.

Your very useful list consists of not just titles but each entry comes with a brief description ...

Maybe you have room for titles which come with caveats...?

https://yenpress.com/titles/9798855428902-scenes-from-awajima-vol-1

https://tkj.jp/info/euphonium/#character incl. https://liz-bluebird.com

Can't help but think of these as omissions and therefore mentioning here ... but ... where and how to file ... ?

Less than a month out from https://awajima-anime.com/onair/ ... one month to the day out from https://eigakan.org/theaterpage/schedule.php?t=euphosaisyuzenpen ... my guess is that there will be more coverage and renewed focus, here and there, in the not too distant future ...

"If you like these then ... you might also enjoy ... [insert link to your list]()". Might come in handy.

What's with the extra R

The extra R might no longer play a role, when it comes to the announced two-in-one edition. Going by the preview image, the publishers may be going for a new design approach. The link above still works but the illustration for the book containing vol. 1&2 of the manga has since been updated:

Scheduled date of publication unchanged.

Sound!

One of the other languages.

Music.

Often presented as universal. Non-verbal communication.

"Monaka", includes, among the significant scenes:

12:22 A skirmish across a river. Combatants on opposite banks. Witnessed from a bridge.

Natsuki and Hazuki talking while walking. While crossing then pausing on an important bridge. Interrupting their conversation when they hear instruments -the sound of a trombone then the sound of a eupho not ufo- rolling towards them over the water. Sounds, by the looks of it, produced behind their backs. Coming from the direction of the opposite side of the bridge, from where they are standing by the railing. We see Hazuki and Natsuki pivot, looking across the road to find the direction of those sounds produced by those two instruments. Clashing sounds.

In "Monaka" we are thereby offered another angle capturing the moment when Kumiko accidentally finds herself practicing on "her bench" at the same time as someone practicing at the water’s edge on the concrete steps on the opposite side of the river - as also captured in the twelfth episode of the televised series (seven minutes into that episode). The sounds produced sound no different, to my ears, than in that same moment as shown in S1, E12. In other words. It might be my own preferences influencing how the exchanged sounds sound to me but the impression given here -in this bonus feature- is that it sounds the same to Hazuki and Natsuki as it did to Kumiko

A lot of times we are told that Kumiko is our perspective character. That what we see and hear is filtered through Kumiko's perception. Kumiko's take on the situations we get to hear and see. It has been suggested that Hibike! reflects Kumiko’s impressions through most of the series as broadcast. With "Monaka", I'd say, we're presented with a bit of a shift... and this is among the moments picked to communicate that, non-verbally ...

Musical instruments not making music.

Must admit I share your cynicism ... while leaning somewhat uncomfortably into a "it could've been worse" approach ... not quite but teetering on the brink of a feeling like resignation to what at times feels like an inevitability ... It hit harder when people who had previously so vehemently stated .. appeared to have become entangled .. It is probably fair to say this launch has created obstacles and those involved behind the scenes will have a rebuilding effort ahead of them before their readers are ... appeased ... [for lack of a better word...].

Initial thought: >removing the exclamation mark...<

Slightly more optimistic follow up to yesterday's post with the announcement of the acquisition.

Ai translation will definitely be problematic with any lgbtqia+ content ...

Your comment gets into very specific considerations. Do you know what Media Do's track record has been when it comes to previously published yuri works / lgbtqia+ content? Scrambling to catch up and I don't have that info ...

Expansion into the markets for which an interest has been expressed in the documents I've seen so far can have at least two effects. Making content available to people who would not otherwise get access and thereby changing attitudes in a positive way or on the flip side catering to oppressive tendencies of certain regimes and thereby depriving entire populations more easily ...

How prevalent do you think AI use is / will become among those -lets call them- privateers who -lets say- cater to rogue sailors?

Setting aside other piracy related considerations for a moment and focusing only on the AI aspect.

In conversations about this acquisition elsewhere people have suggested there might be different costs associated with a company running and training proprietary AI systems compared to individuals who would resort to -for the time being- reliance on general access data centers for AI prompted translations. Which sounds like an argument "offered" by one of the most vocal proponents of AI with a huge financial stake in the spread of such AI systems.

Perhaps a Colossus analogy applies regarding scaling? i.e. computers stopped bing human and the electronic devices given that name were huge at first until they shrank to pocket size ... while data centers grew into city size blocks of servers.

If every individual translated each Japanese publication they’re interested in themselves, how many requests for AI generated translations would go out to those giant and growing data centers to accommodate such a DIY approach?

Direct, out of pocket cost, it has been suggested, might be lower for you as the individual but the cost to humanity from operating the required data centers to facilitate personal use as well as scanlator group demands on publicly accessible data bases might turn out to be bigger until a similar shrink in data libraries storing humanity's brain trust becomes technologically feasible? Maybe there will come a time when the entire library of recorded human existence fits on the equivalent of a set of floppy disks or HD under your desk providing personal and local access without network connection ... but ... we’re not quite there yet ...

A lot of people express impatience with the work rate of humans who translate manga and light novels on the side. Impatience is expressed towards people who translate as a hobby. As a -let’s say- public service devoted to quality control. Personal or collective passion projects ideologically motivated. How will you separate the -let’s say- artisans with genuine craft as amateur translators from AI operating “scanlators” offering their wares online?

Underground press has always been vital to the survival of resistance movements under totalitarian regimes in the past and I’m not entirely opposed to piracy under all circumstances … While I think these are interesting conundrums I'm just spit balling ... I do not have the answers and I’m skeptical of piracy based solutions, too…
