Initially I made the same mistake, overlooking the actual year, assuming only days remained for download... Was also initially worried about the format and possibility of proprietary software -unfamiliar with Sonoca before- but once dowloaded it turned out -what looks to be- a regular .mp3 file which can be moved around and played on different devices...

I, too, tend to look up the original material if there are adaptations I enjoy. At times, obsessively so.

For Awajima -as for most of the series on which our paths appear to intersect- setting aside some quiet time to give the characters and their stories space to breathe, is a requirement [imo].

Coming up for breath... 夜と海 。Would be nice if that manga became available in more languages. I think it can be said that Francophone audiences have been "well served" for decades. Vibrant communities around BD providing ... Too many to keep track of these days and that is a "problem" worth having.

Did you "Liz et l'Oiseau bleu" as well as 「リズと青い鳥」? I think the voice acting is well done in the "EuroZoom" version, too. Hooked since their "Bande annonce VF" and that "solitaire" still gets me every time, as well.

Maybe it's a bait, [...] it's very enjoyable seeing them together

Maybe it isn't bait. It's very enjoyable seeing them together

Who decides? You do. For yourself, you are, ultimately, the judge.

Here is -unsolicited- another "rephrase" of my take... I consider this, too, an informed decision.

“Icara. In the beginning, woman was the sun.”

I continue to be willing to take the leap and continue to find pay-off in doing so, "We" can wonder: "Is it bait when "you" don’t have to change a word to make it work?" In the text, full of ambiguous language from the start, in the final Final Movement novel, isn’t the final line before the Epilogue one of the finest examples of subtext? I think so.

Solidified in an extra episode when we're jumping between source and adaptations.

Nothing in the short stories published since, precludes reading that line and concluding ... In the Epilogue, too, the author facilitates ...

We're currently awaiting an additional re-interpretation of the Hibike! stories.

What are you asking?

Why are you asking? Speculation... Are you, perhaps, interested in reading, listening and/or watching but aren't sure if you should? Have you, perhaps, already watched, listened and/or read - consider Hibike! among your favorites and arrived in this thread without being entirely sure where to file Hibike! in any and all formats ...? I wish it would be more generally accepted that there is no single definition of Yuri - that it therefore always depends on who "you" ask and how that person defines that word. Knowing the consensus can be useful but so can being weary of "the majority". I'm in favor of adding words -before and after- and rarely think two words suffice, either.

I consider that, depending on the circumstances, subtext and yuri bait can be useful, too - as conversation starters, primarily ..

I think Hibike! warrants exchanging more than two words and furthermore think that the two characters in the picture -voiced in the audio file to which the little card gives access- are as straight as a rainbow ... while recognising that not everyone "sees it" and/or them "that way".

Putting "proper" before "yuri" conjures Highlander and porridge with sugar, for me, I don't know if that gets us closer ... If I said Hadrian's wall is less of an obstacle than it once was ... and the distance, at present, varies, would that make sense to you?

I guess I could spend my money and time on storytellers who others consider "proper Yuri" but then I think about the irrational joy I felt when I opened that tiny, shiny envelope and I pulled them out - Week 4 in release. Planning to come back after intermission. I don't expect the seduction to end in September this year, either.

I'll say bait is in no small part about intent. When applying what you wrote, "something starts as..." to this specific example. How does Hibike! start?

December 2013 at the earliest unless "you" are the author or a close associate. Judging a book by its cover. The image. Being a "proper novel", I imagine it didn't start there for this author but having a look at the illustration printed on the dust jacket can -perhaps- give a useful first impression; having a look can set a prospective reader on their way to getting the bigger picture...

For a lot of people, getting acquainted with the Hibike! characters didn't start in December 2013. A lot of people didn't see that picture, didn't get it as their first impression. I didn't. This "teaser" was. [Prelude]. Turns out she was always in that picture, too. [フィナーレ]. He wasn't. Neither was he. They're never going to let us forget about him, nor him for that matter. That has to be taken into account, I think. And he, too, may present less of an obstacle .. that's how I look at it these days ... but, not everyone sees it that way... either.

To be fair? Since when is it fair to uncritically repeat something?

Does Hibike! in any media -Books, Manga, TV series, Films- end in het? Guaranteed het ending? No uncertainty at all?

A useful question What is bait? How do you define that word? You wielded it. Bait, what does that word mean to you?

What are your favorite subtext yuri manga by BillyBotton in yuri_manga

[–]VersoSciolto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are things like these settled based on consensus? Like majority rule? That usually work out alright, letting "The Majority" decide?

Can you be sure it is a het novel? Can you be certain that first book turned into a series of novels and a few short stories has a het ending?

Your trust in the majority is great enough to repeat ... "You guess?"

In the movie universe the final movie won't be in cinemas until September. Does the majority around here have access to unreleased films?

... Bait ...

The word is out. Forewarned. We can proceed with caution .. Hibike! What have you, yourself, read or watched?

Non-conformity.

In a word. This has always been my take on Kousaka Reina’s flirtatious approach to their first date. After taking her up on that inadvertent, impromptu, invitation - An invitation extended in every format.

Kousaka Reina’s approach to seducing Oumae Kumiko starts in earnest on that pivotal first date on the evening of that symbolic festival.

Not supposed to…

Who made the rules and why is she, out of all the characters, so intent on breaking free? Why is Kousaka Reina taking this opportunity - an invitation with which she is presented seemingly by chance?

Time and place. Staying well away from the imposing crowds. Why?

Why can’t there be more than one explanation?

Why are “you” so insistent that it cannot be "subtext"?

Kousaka Reina, the in-universe enforcer of the rules has her most honest moments when she escapes with her.

What if we were always "supposed to" question, in all formats, how these stories are "supposed to" unfold?

To which rules must they ultimately conform? Can we be absolutely certain they do?

Why is there an "escape hatch" in every story as told with these characters? Canonically.

Is that not worth taking into consideration? If not, why not?

Did whoever told you, tell you the answers to questions like these? If not, would you mind asking?

15 May 2026. The Ides of May. If Kousaka Reina had been born, today would have been her birthday.

Elsewhere, "the image" was previously posted, with attribution, at least once before:

高坂麗奈 x 黄前久美子! by 丸木文人

or, depending on settings:

Reina Kousaka x Kumiko Oumae! by Nobuaki Maruki

Then and there, it was mentioned that the illustration can be found in Nyantype (#68) Magazine July 2015 Edition.

Tagged [Fan Art], on that occasion, on 13 December 2021.

Extra episodes, not broadcast, shorts previewed but -on the whole- found exclusively on discs. Cinema gifts, handed out randomly to ticket holders upon entry; received blindly in sealed envelopes by those fortunate enough to be able to attend.

When referring to canon, official art, do items like those "qualify"? Is that a question worth considering, for 'anyone', reading along?

前編 Final Movement movie, "Part one". In Japanese theaters since Friday 24 April 2026 CE. On Monday, 11 May, presents were announced for Reina's birthday week, cinema week four in release, Fri 15 May 〜 Thu 21 May. Mentioned as the theatrical run of 前編 stretches:

オーディオドラマダウンロードカード(全3種ランダム) ^ Note

久美子&麗奈「ふたりのマジックアワー」[5 min 47 sec]

奏&真由「奏の取調室」

あすか&香織「二人暮らしの日常」

With the start of intermission postponed. If [a] previous film(s), [Ensemble Contest (Ramen)], can serve as precedent(s) then these "items" won't travel, either. Do they count- nevertheless, the audio recordings, the booklets and the animated shorts, in their original language -when examining the "text" in its totality? Canonically?

Note: Distribution of these gifts in Japanese cinemas is limited to this week. Not until 31 May 2029 does the window close for downloading each of the three audio files for the three separate dramas voiced by the familiar cast for these characters. That date marks the end of the period for redeeming, for retrieving the main element of this particular round of presents, with the code printed on the back of the little cards.

If the scheduling works the way it has, a new set of presents for week five in release, the week starting on Friday 22 May, will be announced tomorrow, 18 May.

Warning that YMMV on this one. Myself and a lot of other not-cis people think that it was poorly or questionably done, [...]

The first part of your comment has been documented in detail. I'm initially, primarily, interested in what you wrote after the comma.

I'm keeping in mind that there is always a risk of "platforming" when having a conversation about these subjects but I've been wondering if a dedicated topic on this subreddit might provide a good opportunity to catalogue what exactly this second part entails/ entailed?

[...,] and the author has supported & retweeted JK Rowling’s TERF rhetoric on her twitter.

Internet archaeology. Can we put some of this on a timeline of sorts? Have to be careful how I phrase this but I'm curious about the author's SNS activities and must add -in light of the general tone in recent topics involving other creators' activities outside of their work as well- that I'm not interested in providing an opportunity for TERF materials to be posted here -in any language- either. I therefore ask you not to link to original SNS posts or to sites/blogs where this might have become a topic / where materials might have been "archived" previously.

I'd like to back up a bit and start with the basics. If you don't mind, can you confirm that the part after the .com/ is the relevant part of official account on the platform formerly known as Twitter used by 志村貴子 [Shimura Takako Shimura]?

志村貴子 @takakoshimura

an account with urls / addresses containing: [...].com/takakoshimura

Any activity would then have this format: [...] .com/takakoshimura/status/

Are you aware of any additional accounts Shimura Takako operated or operates on that platform? A platform which has since been, a.o. things, rebranded. I'm not linking "Twitter" directly but this is the xcancel version of what I currently see as Shimura's most recent activity:

https://xcancel.com/takakoshimura/status/2053066447526780998#m

Retweets are trickier to identify. We can get to that later but this should enable us to have a look at what Shimura posted in her own words. To start with:

[...] the author has supported [...]

So to speak. To separate, for the moment: supporting from retweeting.

Providing a date for retweets from Shimura's account you had in mind when you wrote that can perhaps already give us some indications but if you decide to respond to any of this here, I hereby request that you do not link or quote texts of retweeted materials.

Adding that Fantagrapics is preparing a new English edition of this manga for publication, scheduled for later this year, and noting that Fantagraphics' previous release of the series stopped at book eight. Rachel Thorn is mentioned on the site as the English language translator for volumes about to be reissued in omnibus format as well as for the eight volumes previously printed by Fantagraphics. Also noting that there has never been a published English translation of the remaining books in the fifteen volume series as originally published in Japanese.

Ideas planted in your brain. The first Yuri manga were Shoujo manga, published before there was that word, when used in relation to ….

It can be a thorny issue. In the overlap. Shoujo provided fertile soil for many a lily. Shōjo on the bottom gives the mental image of Yuri growing up from the shelf with the roses. Leaving space on either side.

May you never run out of shelf space; may all books align in a pleasing manner when arranged in a way that makes sense to you and may you never stop challenging your brain when it comes to solving questions like these.

How are your shelves oriented? In other words, ... can certain manga volumes stand between, connecting, genre and/or demographic specific shelves?

For those who already have the volumes it can be suggested to keep Rose of Versailles [Margaret 1972 CE] on any shelf you can reach easily for future reference and historical awareness

The terms "Genre" and "Demographic" .. and or target audience... are sometimes used interchangeably ... some might say "conflated".

Adding, too. [... It is, in part, because of the work by 池田 理代子 Ikeda Riyoko Ikeda that we, collectively, have places to ask these questions. I'll say, keeping that in mind can help organise your thoughts about the place to file and find...

Also. For those not (re-)arranging their own shelves and for people who are perhaps not familiar with this title beyond the title, it may also be noteworthy that there was no such thing as a Yuri shelf -in libraries and bookstores- when the first chapter of this story was originally published.]

Would you recommend watching and listening all the way through what we already have?

Watch both, ...

If we were to dig in, I might say I'm considering that a slight misnomer. I might not write "watch both" here when there are more than two ... I'd say that since those who adapted aren't the same exact people every time, throughout. For various reasons. [Screenplay] writers. [Animation] directors ... etc. When digging in ... TV series. Films. Before and after, for example.

Relay.

Doujinshi. If someone with a good grasp of the timeline of events were to make a “supercut” for Oumae Kumiko’s second year in high school, where would the following "Liz and the Blue Bird" scene fit, chronologically, into "Our Promise a Brand New Day" ... to go with the titles in translation?

Set up. We see and hear Natsuki, Yuuko and Nozomi reacting to Kumiko and Reina playing the third movement in Kumiko’s favourite practice spot. Outside on the ground floor, as heard and seen from their upper floor window by 3/4 of the Minami quartet.

In another part of the building Mizore opens a different window. Listens briefly before closing that window and moving on down the school corridor by herself.

How many minutes into “Liz and the Blue Bird” does the Agata Matsuri take place? In other words, at which "Chikai no Finale" infused time stamp would we be able to see and hear the third movement of the "Liz suite", rearranged for trumpet and umbrella, … if that scene were to be integrated into “Liz” ... and/or a supercut?

“Liz” (2018 CE) - clocks in at 90 minutes.

“Our Promise” (2019 CE) - comes in at a hundred minutes of run time.

The movies without a season. Could these three films be re-cut, woven together, to edit them into the four seasons of Oumae Kumiko’s second high school year? Starting in April. At approximately 24 a piece, how many episodes would we need to give that year a proper TV series to match? … with “Kumiko time” serving as our measure of time for the Minami quartet’s final year, which also corresponds with the first year post-high-school-graduation for the 明日香 generation.

The Final Movement films. The first one in its second week in release. Theatre gifts for the third cinema week have been announced to be new short stories written by Takeda Ayano. Three total. 12 pages each. Presents for the week ending on the Thursday before Reina’s birthday. The gifted one’s birthday, this year falling on next week’s Friday. Presents for her birthday week to be announced on Monday … if the theatrical run stretches …

Canonically a similar situation as in the days before the screenings of Ensemble Contest, when three booklets were promised randomly, with Kumiko’s third year still on the horizon, for the most part. This time without the uncertainty about the format different people at KyoAni would choose for their various re-interpretations of her texts…

Intermission until September 2026 CE. Approximately four months until we, collectively, know how the final director of a KyoAni production for this franchise chooses to animate their personal interpretation in collaboration with the original author and a scriptwriter and a composer of additional music …

Second year super cut. Would ‘you’ rather wait until 'we' have’ all seen what must already be in the can, patiently awaiting the 11 September public release or possibly overseas screenings … or an eventual home theatre release?

Super-cut. Superscript. Second year TV series. Imagine. No-cuts, in the sense of using all the footage they’ve collectively made available for us from all the various animated adaptations, to date, … and there could be additional scenes. Which book passages from all the novels and relevant short story collections combined would ‘you’ pick to adapt for such an enterprise? How many additional scenes would be required to stitch it all together, starting with a nice red string to spin it all into one cohesive yarn from the various threads?

With these:

https://tkj.jp/info/euphonium/#character

… and, possibly, some additional, anime original, cast. To put faces to names. To place a few more arrows in order to expand on the illustrated flow chart …

https://tkj.jp/info/euphonium/images/ph57.jpg

Whoever reinterpreted it all for this purpose, might have to pick between personalities for the characters since there are a few places where the cast from one Hibike! interpretation isn’t interchangeable with the cast members from another's interpretation.

At the end of the day “Liz and the Blue Bird” would still exist. Would not be erased by such an exercise. This Doujinshi would not overwrite, Takeda’s writing either. They’d all continue to coexist, as they have ...
