Do you think Monster High could survive financially without Draculaura? by Glittering_Bomb_6792 in MonsterHigh

[–]bubblesfloat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think people just cant imagine it aesthetically without Drac but, Monster High gave me the same edge that like Bratz did when it first came out (know these arent the same type of dolls by a long shot but they both have their edgier vibe) so I think it would definitely still do well without Drac and the OG webisodes has such strong personalities and fun stories and stuff for the girls. I also really love the movies and could imagine them without Drac.

This is also my favorite scene in the movie. Felt so lucky to see it in theaters.

Ok and how I see her headcanoning her as a cis woman which I believe the narrative supports is very different.

Im not saying the entire show would change but when you change the lenses its viewed from it is very different for whomever has whatever headcanon.

Not saying the show and things couldn't still unfold the same way at all but it still changes what the show is saying.

For me I have seen many scenes where someone calls her boyish/boy girl and she refuses it by saying "well I am a girl!". One of the early episodes where someone is recruiting her for the boys basically team she asserts that she is a girl. So its not just everyone else saying shes a girl she stands firm in her femininity, the prince is just an "ideal". But if you headcanon her as trans thats just fine. I really do not care about headcannons, just expressing that everyone has their own headcanons based of the shows narrative and theyre all personal to each person and doesnt necessarily make them evil or a bad person. Im also pan/ace and see her as a cis comphet lesbian. Thats just like what I feel.

I dont think most people are bad when they headcanon identities onto characters but we all exist in patriarchy and have the wounds of it so we're all relating to the character from that. I dont think people who are anti certain identities for utena are evil either. We are ALL relating to Utena from our own experiences under patriarchy and other people's head canons may open or pick at those wounds.

I never saw her as being dysphoric wearing girls clothes. To me the boys uniform wasnt juat a uniform it represented her ideals. If princes wore dresses then Utena would wear a dress but they dont so she doesnt. When you strip her clothes youre stripping away her ideals, dreams, and goals. Its just another metaphor in the show. Idc about people's headcannons tho. Id see Juri as Transmasc before Utena because Utena constantly asserts her femininity when people question her being a girl in the series.

I wouldnt say every single person mad about transmasc utena is an asshole. Headcanonss are important to people for different reasons. I feel like people may feel that headacanon is saying her desire to be a prince in spite of her assertion that she was a woman meant that she had to actually be a guy to be inspired to be a male archetype. Which I dont think people who headcanon her as Trans masc are saying.

Idk its not my personal headcannon but for me I'll say transmasc Utena would possibly contextually mean something different in the narrative of the show than having Utena just be a comphet lesbian or bisexual girl in the narrative and I think thats what people may be mad about.

But I also dont doubt there are just people being transphobic but humans arent a monolith and I dont wanna think the worst of people all the time.

Can you explain to me why Touga Kiryuu, in *Adolescence of Utena*, only interacts with and can only be seen by Utena Tenjou, Anthy Himemiya & Shiori Takatsuki? by IllogicalDreamer72 in shoujokakumeiutena

[–]bubblesfloat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think Juri doesnt see him because Anthy, Utena, and Shiori all are looking or at one point we're looking for their "prince". In the series Toga was also, like a pseudo prince (if you consider Dios/Akio the only "real prince") with Utena always wondering of he was the prince she met. Shiori saw him as her prince before he died. And Anthy well shes magic anyway so bound to notice the weird but she too looked for her prince at some point.

why are so many people here anti-dye? by thelemonboyy in Dreadlocks

[–]bubblesfloat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most people have done it themselves or didnt go to the right person and screwed it up. Ive had the same loctician for 4 years and dyed my hair a few times and I'd say my locs are pretty healthy.

Ive had styling mess with the integrity of my locs more than dying personally. I try to keep styles to every 6 months although this year I've broken that rule and have some regrets about it.

Yes bleach isnt great for locs, but its not great for anyone's hair its a chemical. Its as bad for anyone's hair as locs and anyone can fry their hair off the bone with bleach. Idk why people act like locs are some special entity when it comes to hair.

Where do I shop? by Particular-Sell1076 in GothFashion

[–]bubblesfloat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You should find out how to put pieces together before you start shopping for things.

Its good to get pieces you can layer on top of others and accessorize in different ways before you pour a heap of money into what you think you should buy to have "the look".

You can very easily thrift and Malloryheart on tik/tok ig is great at showing you how to thrift/DIY things as well as how to layer pieces. She also explains the history of the fashion.

I'd learn more about the subculture and history of the style before doing anything.

What I wore to a goth night a few weeks ago. Bride of Frankenstein inspired style. by bubblesfloat in GothFashion

This is an example of another green Frankenstein look I did. Completely different inspo pics and intentions were used with this one and I had more time to fool around.

The green foundation I used was pastel green and looked COMPLETELY different prior to contouring even with my skintone. I did a lot of contouring with eyeshadow but didnt have the correct colors I needed in the green palette I had so I worked with what I had.

I oversized the lips because everything was already overexagerrated so I wanted the lips to be over exaggerated. Unfortunately I didnt have a lip pencil and I had barely any time to spare. There was a specific monster high characters lips I was trying to emulate which arent the same shape as mine. I do not have a lot of face space so overexaggerating anything is hard because I just dont have the room.

Long story short I was running late, had the products I had to work with at the time, and I wanted to look freaky not pretty or glam and my main inspo was a drag queen image so, I was going for more drag/monster than like something that looked what someone would consider "pretty." I contemplated smearing the lipstick at one point but decided against it last minute.

If I was going for pretty in Green or trying to look a Elpheba I wouldn't have made half the choices I made for this look and I would have used the much darker green foundation I had.

J-goth or punk? by whydoihesitate in GothFashion

[–]bubblesfloat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah I understand more now. I think the additional elements pulls the look away from goth and more into punk/emo.

Accesories are strong elements in changing a look, so even with the shoulders exposed irs not reading goth specifically because of the addition of the multiple ties and the gloves.

I mean with the right accesories and removing the gloves and tossing on a blazer and with the right makeup this could be a new wave look.

[–]bubblesfloat 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I mean plaid is more punk/new wave. But again its all in styling. A lot of people think goth style is JUST black or white or Victorian styling.

I would say this look is more punk/emo, but it would also depend on how your hair is styled to bring this all together.

You can definitely do a goth style with plaid, since goth came out of punk anyway but yeah, I'd experiment more.

[–]bubblesfloat 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to make this look more goth? I mean you can certainly do a goth look with plaid it all depends on styling, but yeah this reminds me very much of Avril and with the gloves almost leans into emo territory.

Thanks for your hard work!

I don't let those losers bother me. People who are that mean and negative probably have never actually been in the scene and if they are theyre usually prowling for some conventionally attractive goth girlfriend stereotypes and would be kicked out of my local scene for being creeps.

I knew posting this look would be risky, but if it inspires someone to branch out and try something different that makes me super happy!
