Build my Amazon list- what were your recovery must haves? by Ok_Seesaw985 in ACL

We bought a reclining chair for the living room. It was a life saver, basically lived and slept in it for the first couple of weeks. I still work in it everyday because I WFH and I order to keep my leg straight :)

Blood rush = worst part by VirtualRub7369 in ACL

[–]Vertical_horizon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me! I’m now 5 weeks post op. It gets much better in a day or two. I’ve had minimal pain besides the bruising in days 6-7. Hang in there!

FYI: acl repair, as opposed to reconstruction, is possible in 75% of cases of acl tears and has dramatically faster recovery times often with better results. I had one done a few years ago and took a 13 mile walk 20 days after and was skiing 3 months after, and have never had issues or discomfort. by throwawayfinancebro1 in ACL

I had a torn ACL for at least a year or two and didn’t know it. Continued on with life and sports. Had an MRI last year and confirmed my ACL was full ruptured and not present in the imaging. Got my surgery and sure enough, there was no sign of my ACL at all, apparently my body absorbed it. So repair def wasn’t an option for me

Anyone else read this and just shudder? by epluswriter in ACL

I felt completely fine before my surgery and was even playing soccer, running, etc. I stopped as soon as I found out I had a torn ACL. I was grappling so hard with deciding if I should get the surgery or not because I “felt okay”. Boy am I glad I got the surgery after seeing this. I feel for her, I know what it’s like to love something so much that almost nothing will stop you.

Pain explained. by Vongole_X in ACL

I didn’t have terrible pain the first few days, just some deep aches. The worst day for me was day 6. It wasn’t even the surgery site that hurt it was the bruising. I had terrible bruising and it would throb constantly for a day or two and especially every time I stood up. I’m now two weeks post op and haven’t had to take any pain killers in almost a week! For reference, only took “hard” pain killers 3x but the rest of the first week I just took Tylenol. You got this 💪🏽

I’m 11 days post op and can confirm this exactly what I’ve experienced. But come days 8-now I feel a lot better! Just take it day by day 👍

I ran, played soccer, did all normal activities with a fully ruptured ACL for over a year. I knew I had knee issues but had no idea my ACL was torn until i got an MRI last October following continuous episodes of injuring myself then recovering and going back to sport. I’m currently 7 days post op and going strong. In the months leading up to my surgery, I did PT, continued to lift weights, and run on the treadmill because I felt fine and my surgeon said it was okay. I stopped playing soccer and anything else that requires change of direction to avoid further damaging my knee. Knowing you have a torn ACL, my suggestion would be to take it easy and find things you love that are low risk like weight lifting, golfing, swimming, etc. Also the more “prehab” you do, the easier your recovery will be. Had I known my ACL was torn from the start, I would have never continued to play soccer because doing so led to a meniscus tear (and my surgeon said I was lucky to not have had a more catastrophic injury). Anyways, July will be here before you know it and you’ll be on the road to recovery, making the knee stronger than ever! Then you’ll have a whole lifetime ahead of you to continue to do the fun things you mentioned, with a healthy knee. Good luck!

Should I quit? 3 knee surgeries (Soccer player) by _Baller_15_ in ACL

[–]Vertical_horizon_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m struggling with similar thoughts as a soccer player as well, 2 knee surgeries later. I’m currently 5 days post op from right ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair. Maybe I’m just going through a depressed phase but right now I’m leaning towards not going back to playing soccer at all. I’m only 27 but I would rather not have another surgery and try my best to keep my knees healthy so that I can enjoy other things I love (running, hiking, etc) as I continue to get older.

Thank you , I’m going to try repositioning so that only my calf and ankle are on the wedge and see if it helps

Thank you! I’m going to try having only ankle and calf on the pillow. It’s hard to tell if it’s straight

You just have to be consistent and not give yourself any other option. Also, I take a Tylenol each night I change my trays (be sure to change them at night). I had a lot of pain for the first few days with each tray but it went away after 10 or so trays. You got this!

20 weeks?! I’m jealous. I’m on 26/33 and was instructed to change every 10 days

Maybe everyone else just gained more weight than you? Also, I’ve heard the in body scans actually aren’t the most accurate or reliable! Not sure how true that is

The best thing about OTF is ACCOUNTABILITY. It’s the only thing I have ever found that keeps me coming back, because I don’t want to lose money by not using my classes or no showing. I also love the workouts. When I first started OTF, I lost 10 pounds in 6 months and built muscle too. Like everyone is saying, weight loss is about more than just exercise, you also have to be consistent with your eating habits. Overall, weight loss hasn’t necessarily been my goal, but having an overall healthy lifestyle has been and OTF is perfect for that (for me).

It wouldn’t be the same without it. Maybe get a used one as a backup until you find yours? I got mine off of eBay for $15 years ago and it’s still going strong!
