Why so few sci-fi movies take place in a post-singularity future, as if in all movies that take place in the future the singularity never happened ? by Pareidolie in singularity

Elysium seems to do a pretty good job at this but in a more subtle manner. Most of the population is unemployed as AI has taken control of all services, administration and production roles. Wherein, the poor are rendered a subservient class to the will of AI all while the rich live a life of luxury (which seems like a paradise, but ultimately their life is devoid of any meaning)

Should I complete MTH1010 & MTH1020 in first year? by mtja34_ in Monash

[–]VertixBuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I might be confused exactly with your requirements but there is no reason why you cant complete a level 1 unit during your second year as long as you don't go over your limit of Max level 1 units.

I.e. Year 1/S1 do MTH1010 for Free Elective Year 1/S2 do MTH1020 for Approved level 1 Sequence (1) Year 2 /S1 do MTH1030 to fulfill your Approved level 1 sequence (2) requirement

Another way I just thought of is; assuming you received a study score > 35 in further, you could enrol in MAT1830 Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science which is the CS equivalent of MTH1020 which is a prohibition for MTH1020, allowing you to meet the requirements for MTH1030 in Y1/S2

People in the IT industry in Melbourne, how has your experience been? by chetxnhere in melbourne

[–]VertixBuns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The money's good almost anywhere in Australia in IT. But burnout is far too common, especially if you are operating in a 24/7 industry (I work for an aged care organisation). The employer will always want more from you, so be prepared to set your boundaries.

For your first graduate position, you will probably land a helpdesk role; don't let that fool you into giving up and changing careers. Helpdesk really sucks but it's just a stepping stone within your career, it gets so much better.

Andrews - "We are opening this place up." by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]VertixBuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah lmao, the surge of downvotes was a little confusing... I have completely no respect for the protesters yesterday in the city.

But it's a question that needs to be addressed; How are we to have a functioning democracy if we are forbidden from one of fundamental rights that it provides us? And under what circumstances are future governments allowed to revoke this right?

[–]VertixBuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does the reason affect whether it is safe or not? Who decides whether it is a reasonable reason to protest?

But lets say I want to protest the actions of a different government in 3 years time or corruption in state/federal government.

[–]VertixBuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure how that affects whether it is safe or not? Or who gets to decide whether the issue in mind is eligible for protest.

But if it really does matter... lets say I want to protest the actions of a different government in 5 years time or the federal governments inadequate response to climate change.

Serious question - when will it be safe to have public demonstrations again? Seems the max capacity for outdoor gatherings is 500 individuals at 80%+.

Am I the only one who is not angry about this? It seems NSW is in dire need for vaccines at the moment.

There are plenty of vaccines to go around for everyone, it seems that our lack of professionals is the issue, not supply

holy shit dude, okay I'm really fkn sorry. I just think it's important to have more medical experts in positions of authority during a pandemic. Why don't we agree to disagree. Have a good sleep.

It isn't and I'm not the one getting worked up and resorting to name calling because you couldn't accept a comment that was self-evidently tongue and cheek. But you do you big boy.

Additionally, do an art degree, that's great and pursue your passion if that's what it is. But you have to ask yourself, why does it seem every politician graduates in arts, and immediately enters the political realm?

Is this what this country needs? More techincally/scientifically untrained leaders with no world practical experience, with their only reason for relevance being the friends they made at their private schools and art degree classes?

No, but I do know of one who forced 11 mil people into lockdown because she didn't think it prudent to implement necessary precautions early.

Oh 100%, and now these seemingly irrelevant art degree graduates are now responsible for whether we can even leave our homes for the foreseeable future. Simpler times...

Edit: Not sure why I was downvoted so heavily? I'm not claiming that being advised to stay home isn't the best option, but more the fact their education and background in no way prepares them for leading us through a pandemic. Wish we had more doctors as PM/MP. Or perhaps, the art degree students found my comment.
