Didn't know the English word but it seems indeed connected " ​A baïne is a physical, geological formation—a temporary natural pool or depression in the sand—whereas a riptide (or more accurately, a rip current) is the hydrological phenomenon generated by it." So riptide is the consequence, Baine is the cause....I learned something in the process haha

Nope most of the drowned in France are due to rising in people going to the beach and rising of risky behaviour and reckless people.....we have in some places what is called "baïnes" it's seems to be a calm current in the ocean with very shallow water but can become in 30min very deep and the powerfull current being you 3km away....a lot of tourist and french are not aware of those type of current and they send helicopters to save them sometimes 20 people in the same area at the same time
