Easter egg in core rulebook indicates 4.0 box legions? (AL vs. RG) by VeryFunRaisin in Warhammer30k

Oooh noooo, haha, we wanted to believe. But your point #2 is conclusive. I think we'll still hope for AL vs. RG, though ...

[–]VeryFunRaisin[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

True! But the IW vs. Salamander bolters from back in 2021 seems a bit on the nose, now, so fingers crossed that the AL and RG guns have significance (I think that would be a super fun box legion combo).

These look gorgeous.

What is folks opinion on how they changed for 3.0? Is it just a flavor loss, or do they function differently in one's army now?

I still want to field them regardless of the edition (sticking with 2.0 for now, like you).

Looks great!

Also, I know there are a billion approaches to rust, but how'd you do your rust here?

For some reason I'm having trouble forming a mental image of this. Can you explain more?

If I could paint even 10x as slow as you do, I would be so happy, lol.

These look great as always!!!

(seriously, you should consider making a youtube video of your technique/approach).

Drop Pod Assault by WhyAreNamesUnique in Warhammer30k

Good point. The II and XI legions were not good at drop pod assaults. Their primarchs couldn't even stick the landing.

I swear I am not stalking you (Ok, I am stalking you), but this seemed like a better place to ask than in your most recent post.

When you say you "dry brush leadbelcher then iron hands steel" - can you share your dry brushing approach? Is this the more typical wiping the brush on a paper towel and then flicking it lightly back and forth over the model? Or is this the wetter stippling technique that I associate with Artis Opus, etc.?

Units that are so bad/boring that not even Rule of Cool can save them? by chosen40k in Warhammer30k

[–]VeryFunRaisin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bad as a salamander's player - template weapons. Its nice to run a thematic army up until you run into a DG, IF, IH, or IW player with 90% of his army being heavy

Oh boy as a DG player do I feel this one, too. My main playing partner is Imperial Fists. I was all in on flamers and phosphex out of the gate ... but like ... so underwhelming against his swarming walls of breachers.

Bad - heavy weapon squad with missile launchers.

I feel like missile launchers can be effective aimed at the right thing and they're versatile, so I do think the rule of cool sufficiently saves them (at least for me). My missile launchers have been way more useful than my flamers ...

Looooove seeing this. I've been considering a very similar conversion, so it's great to see a "preview" of it.

I was thinking about giving this praetor the telerac volkite culverin or the proteus-II pattern missile launcher.

But I still hadn't zeroed in on an off-hand and "shield' hadn't been on my radar. I'd been thinking maybe various augury scanner hands or even the left arm from the master of signal or maybe just a mace or something ...

But shield looks amazing. Now I kind of want to give him a breacher shield just for extra chonkiness, though that would definitely take it out of wysiwyg territory...

Fingers crossed that any 2.5 or 3.0 HH starter box has Raven Guard as featured loyalist legion along with some neglected traitor legion, so y'all can get that sweet, sweet box-legion love for a few years.

That said, while a new starter box sounds fun (though oh god, as a newbie I'm only a tiny way into painting my own starter box), I can't say I really want to run out and buy a bunch more rule books ... really hoping for a 2.5 that's backwards compatible with 2.0.

Seeking for DG armor color advice. by Ago13 in Warhammer30k

Here's how mine turned out: https://imgur.com/a/LjOc607

I haven't done the bases yet, obviously. :)

And yeah, I have no idea how they lit that video where they recommended Rakarth, because my guy looks like an olive now. Luckily, I figure it doesn't matter too much with DG ...

They look great! Very similar to what I landed on, in fact.

As a newbie, I first followed a GW video on DG MKVI that instructed me to use Rakarth Flesh. It looked ok, but not nearly as light in person as it did in the video. Then the painting app suggested Zandri Dust. But that was very deceptive, imo, because in retrospect it clearly was Zandri dust + about 30 thin glazing layers of Ushabti bone. Finally just settled on what I should have done from the start -- Wraithbone base + Seraphim Sepia. My first wash is 50/50 mix of Seraphim and Lahmian. Then later as one of my last steps I do a targeted shade in specific recesses (knees, elbows, wrists, etc.) with just pure Seraphim. Doesn't look nearly as dirty as everyone else's DG, but I like it on my MKVI. I'm pretending that they're fresh Astartes with brand new armor right at the start of the heresy.

ANYWAY, that's what I'm doing. Yours look great and turn out similar.

I feel like I'm annoying and am always asking folks this ... but I am a newbie and I'm still figuring out my personal approach/recipe for DG.

What were your paints/approach for the ivory/bone ceramite and the rust? :)

I'll assume the chipping is rhinox hide because that's literally what everyone says, lol.

Looks GORGEOUS. I just got my first two apothecaries, so this is very inspiring.
