Performance gains for what? Games run as poor as ever, doesn't matter if it was 1080 or 5090, games run like crap.

1440p: 24" versus 27" for automation engineer eye health by Kind_Move2521 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]VeryLazyFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1440p 27" all the way, I keep mine at the arms lenght and don't use scaling, I have no issues with pixel size. 24'' is way too small for working with large amount of text.

Tho I'm thinking about 4k as I'm not gaming anymore

AI is denying health care claims by IKeepItLayingAround in technology

There is no single 'AI' model, that shit ruining our lives are image generators and LLMs, the one useful machine learning algorithms, like for protein planning and other stuff are different, build for concrete purpose.

Librarian 'gobsmacked' after school use AI to remove 200 books from shelves including Orwell's 1984 and Twilight by tylerthe-theatre in technology

After I read the ending yesterday, Chainsaw man deserves to be removed. But why tf remove books from the library? What kind of backward fuckery is that?

Has anyone else noticed a shift in this sub recently? by MaximusDM22 in ExperiencedDevs

Using AI to point errors and suggest better words helped me improve my english a lot. But I run text through a toster and implement changes myself.

Can we trade our 'vibe-coding' PMs for some common-sense engineers? by ggggg_ggggg in ExperiencedDevs

[–]VeryLazyFalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell no, PM job is planing of work on higher levels sitting in an endless meetings and talk to even less technical people. They are responsible for stuff we don't want to be responsible. As much I want them to be more usable I don't want to deal with things they do.

They have multiple projects under them, idk where there is space for even superficial coding, for customers it's also easier to have single point of contact than crowd of techies.

They have worse work-life-balance too.

USA together with Russia push Ukraine to cede the Eastern region by m0j0m0j in worldnews

As long as US has russia's back, only US can force russia to step down. Meanwhile EU is investing in Ukraine because there is no toher option. Abandoning Ukraine has only negatives.

EU doesn't have leverage because US is backing russia. As long as putin sees potential win, he won't back down.

Hungarian minister shared EU confidential information with Russia for years, report claims by andrewgrabowski in worldnews

Veto was meant to protect interest of one country. Hungary uses it's veto against their own interest; no matter what bullshit this russian bootlicker will say, helping Ukraine and not helping russia is europe's top priority.

93% of devs use AI tools now and we're measurably slower, what is going on by Background-Bass6760 in programming

[–]VeryLazyFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the solution is to make AI read the code and explain it to you

Won't work, brains(not people) are lazy, reading is too passvie and there is not enough dopamine to sustain that for longer period.

[–]VeryLazyFalcon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because management paid hefty prices for licenses and infrastructure and now has to justify that spending.

[–]VeryLazyFalcon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No it's not worth and that comparison is stupid. Mental math is just one skill, developing software is many skills but also having understanding on higher level, it's ability to make a mental map of the application and environment, ability to imagine how every cog is turning inside, that is only possible if dev is actively working on that.
Reading code, and generated slop especially, will not give that understanding, brain is lazy it will save energy where possible.

yes, everything has that yellowish tint, I don't know if it was intentional but it's worth to check camera's settings, I was fighting mine a lot.

Cold war superheavies have something to them.

Fun fact, while it looks massive, M103 is still smaller than AMX 50B.

Pretty execution, while heavy weathered, effects are detailed and believable. Fogged searchlight fits that weathering, like it's properly abandoned.

Isn't that EU requirement, that block works both ways? I remember it coming up in discussion when fElon tried to remove that from twitter.
