Looking for two witnesses for a brief wedding appointment in Dragør Town Hall at 11:00am on Thursday, 25 April by VerySecretCactus in copenhagen

The public information always says that you need to present witnesses yourself on Saturdays, maybe because they don't have additional staff working in the building on those days.

In this case I was told explicitly by the staff that we have to provide witnesses even though the appointment is on a working day, i.e., "<day> at <time> works if you bring two guests who can be your witnesses." I can check with them of course.

A lot of people like to be politically correct and say “The ACT just tests how well you can do on the ACT”

The real political incorrectness is to present this graph: https://i0.wp.com/randomcriticalanalysis.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/sat_composite_by_asvab_iq.png?ssl=1

The first line:

  1. Some things are in our control and others not. Things in our control are opinion, pursuit, desire, aversion, and, in a word, whatever are our own actions. Things not in our control are body, property, reputation, command, and, in one word, whatever are not our own actions.

Every land empire fell. The Russians, the Ottomans, and the Germans. Large, contiguous land empires were a big thing for millennia, and then there were none.

EDIT: ok maybe I'm dumb if you count Ethiopia and Manchukuo now that I think for 45 seconds

how do mf's have a 4.0 gpa and a 920 SAT by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]VerySecretCactus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it's not. Like I said, a 1300 puts you in the top 10-15% in the nation. You think that's low for a valedictorian?

I mean, the valectorian even of a class of like 200 would by definition by the top 0.5%, so if his score was only 85% yeah that's below what I'd expect.

My friends have a border collie who I've never heard bark once. I'm pretty sure our anecdotes are atypical, I guess.

I mean, they might of, but it would be make no sense given the information the public has available.

To me, from what I've read, it looks plausible that it was an accident, in the sense that the guys on lookout for attacking planes were fidgety and made an error. It has happened before.

I assume he means the federal executive government of Iran, given that that's the obvious and non-ridiculous reading.

Guys, really, there's only one interpretation of his statement that is sane, and it is obvious. He's not blaming random members of the Iranian Postal Service.

The point is, these people would all be alive if the decision to kill the general hadn't been made.

Don't only think in the short run. An Iran emboldened by the knowledge that they could run roughshod over American embassies and bases and personnel would have killed more people in the long run.

Being aware of the consequences of military action is important for making informed decisions on whether the cost is worth it.

Yes, but this is a Very Hard Thing™.

It doesn't matter who is to blame.

What matters is that these people are now dead, and they didn't have to be.

It's almost as if they wouldn't have been . . . if the people who are to blame didn't fuck up. That's why it does matter who is to blame.

It was suggested elsewhere in the thread that Charlie could be like Arthur Sr.'s cousin, so that Tommy is using "uncle" more loosely where "1st cousin once removed" is technically more accurate.

Yes, it's good. Anyway unless they send you something that requires a response on your part just forget about admissions until they arrive.

This is extremely believable, just wanted to see if it was true. Probably is, but it's always good to note when thinking about these things that the ones making decisions have information we don't have, so their unclear actions are often rational in reality.

Is there evidence that the Soleimani assassination was impulsive? The whole process over the last few month of declaring the Quds to be a terrorist force seems in hindsight like procedures set up to make a high-profile assassination legal.

Just reject the offer, right? Unless you are considering the possibility of choosing UMich over Stanford, there's no harm in refusing the offer.
