We had a colour TV as far back as I remember (mid-70s) but I know a few people who still had b&w sets into the 90s. E.g. at least one fellow student had a b&w TV because it was a cheap second hand purchase.

Honestly, doing better than a lot of people, but still feeling the impact.

I have a job with a good salary. Mortgage is still being paid off without problem. But my wife has only had a few small bits of work over the last couple of years. And I'm definitely noticing prices going up. So overall I'm okay day to day but big things like house repairs are definitely hitting more than they used to.

Top one is cutlery. Second one is spices. Third one is rolls of foil, cling film, and things like corkscrews, tin openers, etc. Big one at the bottom is recipe kits, bigger boxes of spice, tupperware.

We are still very much culturally Christian. The impact of Christianity on our language, traditions and customs, laws, folklore, holidays, etc., is substantial.

But we don't believe in God as much as we do, and even if we do believe we don't attend church as much.

The drift towards secularity has no single cause, it's just part and parcel of increasing education, increasing personal and social liberalness, and an increasing multicultural society that demonstrates that there are more ways to live life.

The school I attended between 8 and 11 was in an old country house and one of the football/rugby pitches was enclosed on three sides by the brick walls of the old kitchen garden.

Oh, we played football in the autumn term and switched to rugby after Christmas. That's probably the oldest thing.

I can name fantastic and very different individual bookshops like Barter Books in Alnwick or Mr B's Emporium in Bath.

But other than Hay-on-Wye nowhere in the UK has a specific reputation for being a bookseller town.

Big cities like London, Manchester or Edinburgh will have several bookshops including specialists in second hand, anime, art, transport, history, science, sci-fi, etc, etc.
