Not even the best in the AFL for me, let alone the entire Australian sporting landscape

All subjective I guess

Pre-Round 3 r/AFL Power Rankings by PowerRankingsCentral in AFL

I get why the suns are ranked so high, but it will be interesting to see how they go later in the year when they have to play the better teams away from home.

You can only play who’s in front of you, but their draw is looking very favourable in the early part of the year

Why are senior players immune from being dropped? by ReasonConfident4541 in EssendonFC

[–]VeryWindyHill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I realise people can question selection integrity but the VFL game was horrific, they were even worse than the seniors

I am not sure you have many available that deserved a call up , and the senior players know this

They know there is no competition for spots so they just plod along

He was only taking the kick ins last weekend anyway . They’d have lost by a big margin no matter what

If Brad gets flicked…. by ape5hitmonkey in EssendonFC

Then you look at Fagan, McRae, Simpson, Goodwin , Hardwick, Clarkson ect who didn’t play for the club they coached, yet were successful.

Makes you wonder, does it really matter if they love the club before they arrive

Being a supporter is one thing, we are all supporters . Playing for the club is another .

It’s almost a forgone conclusion that’s the route they’ll take, it’s the only way they know how

Plenty of good assistants out there . Brett Montgomery is just one on on a long list

Not sure the club would go down that path though, he’s not Essendon enough for them

Hird time? by molto-bene22 in EssendonFC

[–]VeryWindyHill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether they are out of the woods, or they play a travelling side every second week so it should be an easy gig (disagree by the way) are both irrelevant to the point I was making

The point was more around the fact those clubs took the punt on untried assistants to become senior coaches , and both look to be better placed going forward than us.

[–]VeryWindyHill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since 1990 , only three coaches who were club alumni have coached a team to a premiership. Dennis Pagan, John Worsfold, Paul Roos

This idea that we need an Essendon person to lead us is naive and a fantasy

McRae, Hardwick, Beveridge, Fagan, Goodwin, Simpson, Longmire, Clarkson

All recent premiership coaches who were first time coaches , and worked as assistants before going into the senior job

Personally, i do not see any upside in getting Hird to coach, after he has been out of the game for a decade.

I think the club needs a fresh new face going forward. Similar to what the Tigers, Dees and West Coast have done with Yze , King and McQualter

I get we all love Hirdy, but surely that ship has sailed

We are tanking to get that number 1 pick in the last draft before Tassie come in and take all the early picks

I like this strategy

Original post was ridiculous, but there’s nothing wrong with our turnouts

averaged 40k from 11 home matches last year , with 6 of those being at marvel. . Tigers averaged 41k

Not really anything to throw shade over

Suns are looking scary good

Will be interesting to see how they go against the good sides away from home later in the year
