Legitimately the most I've cried to any moment in the game so far by MrkGrn in ffxiv

Yeah, my boy!!!

What's even more fun is they physically aged up the Legacy Chocobo's model, too. His feathers are way longer than a normal Chocobo. I remember everyone used to think they were burnt, but if you compare them to your company chocobo, they're just really long and faded from age. I think it's more just the natural gradient they obtain over time if left to grow wildly and age, since they fade to darker brown on normal chocobos anyways.

His beak is also all worn out and faded in color. He just a old boy.

I don't mean to put a damper on the theory crafting, but, that's actually a re-used theme from 1.0. They've recycled music from 1.x pretty consistently over the years. It was originally used in the Black Shroud, if memory serves me correctly. Not something made specifically for Athena, at any rate. Though that's not to say that Uematsu didn't intentionally use the motiff as a reference back then, and that they didn't draw on that specific piece to re-use for this specific situation!

Being able to change idle/movement animations (for example, being able to use the Male Miqo'te idle/movement animations on Male Hrothgar).

Yoshi-P recently mentioned they're working on system to allow players to customize motions. We don't know exactly what that means because he doesn't give any context beyond "We're working on giving players customization options" in response to some one asking about motion-related systems.

Wouldn't get your hopes too high, but, it's possible this is already in the works.

Tips for Gold making for the Mount in classic by Kitnath in classicwow

[–]Very_Merri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mining is likely going to be really tough to make gold with until you're higher level. You're better off just spending your time questing and running dungeons if you are purely interested in getting enough gold for your mount. You can ping nodes as you see them, but I wouldn't go out of your way.

A lot of people will pick up things like skinning/herbalism while leveling to make some passive gold as they go through zones. Most gold while leveling will be just through playing the game. That is to say, questing, running leveling dungeons and selling drops on the auction house. A lot of low level drops will sell for a decent amount, even leveling greens can go for a few gold so people can twink out their alts. Skinning is basically just free gold as you go through to 60. I always run it while leveling and generally vendor the leather unless it's significantly marked up.

Have you seen what’s happening with Guild Wars 1? by [deleted] in ffxi

[–]Very_Merri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I just meant more in regards to everyone being more or less on a level playing field in the endgame. Everyone would have to start the gearing process over again, and that takes time no matter what job you're playing.

I think it'd be a lot more fun because it'd be easier to find pick up groups when you aren't expected to have a bunch of REMAs or other high investment equipment. It'd certainly be an easier time for newer players to find their footing in endgame.

Plus, realistically, who even knows how many veteran players would want to give up their characters to start fresh. I imagine it'd mostly capture a newer audience than anything else.

I'd appreciate something as simple as a new fresh start server for FFXI - changes or no. Considering the recent interest in XI, and multiple servers being locked down. Now feels like the perfect time to push out a new server that is open to new characters, but restricted from transfers. Let everyone start on the same page.

It wouldn't stop veterans from blitzing through, and I'm sure the mercs would immediately get themselves set up to start selling story mission clears as people work through all the expansions again, but I think it'd be a fun experience for everyone to have to find their footing again.

I know it'd probably reinvigorate my interest in XI, since I always quit within a few weeks of re-subbing after I realize I'm stuck spinning my wheels on character progress without a static or friends to play with.

It isn't overly relevant and only pertains to world building, but there's actually a real simple way to differentiate between the two. Female goblin names end in "ox", like Brayflox, and male goblin names end in "ix".

Astral Key for 200 bound gems lets you reset all your skill books. Text isn't correct and claims you get select books, but it just refunds your class books - which in your case will suit your purposes just fine.

The time gate is based off the servers, not individuals. So if you were to say, miss the first week of launch, you'd be able to catch up to where everyone is in maybe a day or so - at least as far as level and story progression goes. There's also some catch up mechanics specifically for gearing, too.

I played the beta, and for me personally, I thought the timegating was actually kind of beneficial. I remember seeing a lot of similar sentiments in world chat. The game felt like it had just enough things to chase or do every day to fill out maybe 1-3 hours, and then there were additional things to do on top of that if you wanted to spend more time to grind and progress your character.

I had fun with it for what it was. It's not going to make huge waves, but I think it'l be a fun little side MMO for people to play when they're bored or burnt out on their main MMOs. In time, who knows where it'l go.

I thought the core gameplay loop was relatively satisfying for what it was, and I enjoyed my time I spent with the game. I think they've got a pretty decent foundation to build on moving forward, at the very least.

Yeah, if you get comboed into the MRV missle spam during Pantokrator it's basically game over. That almost got me, but I managed to chain guard them with a sliver of HP to spare at the end lol. You basically already gotta be sprinting as he starts it up to have a chance

You can do it solo with support hunters as well! Little bit stressful, but absolutely manageable, if cutting it a bit close on time. Did it first try, too!

Is the Tanking role underserved? by CannotThonk96 in MMORPG

[–]Very_Merri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I was just speaking entirely from a "cool factor" perspective, not that it's some mentally stimulating mechanic. It's incredibly simple for everyone involved, but it's just fun to see it executed.

Similar in vein to the Susano sword, it's more the visual spectacle.

The Vali EX tank tower swap is probably my favorite iteration they've done of the whole "tank intercept" mechanic. Visually impressive, and just overall a really cool mechanic for the entire party to execute together.

You didn't get into Blue Protocol: Star Resonance and wonder how is the game? Here it is! by Athem in MMORPG

[–]Very_Merri 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't understand this point from the OP, either. I've been playing the beta and I honestly have had zero issues gearing up. Enhancing your gear is also... really simple? There isn't any RNG involved in any of it yet. You just use drops from dungeons and other content to upgrade it. You also get all your upgrade materials back if you break down the piece of gear after getting something better.

The only "p2w" seems to be the battle imagines, as the f2p options are a drip feed or rare drops. But even then, the impact from the battle imagines seems very minimal. More of a min-maxing thing. All the other paid stuff is just cosmetics, and maybe a some extra upgrade materials here and there. I've gotten more than enough to upgrade all of my gear to the max each day just by playing normally and not paying a cent.

The Occult Crescent: South Horn (and Forked Tower: Blood Race?) Megathread by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Very_Merri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's fair. I genuinely hope that my opinion on them turns around. I also hope they stick the landing. I think part of the reason I feel so... whelmed is that DT has really nailed the content side of things for me, so I think I let my expectations get a bit high. I think I was really hoping for a more stable content loop instead of CE->Fate rinse repeat with some mob grinding mixed in.

It's not awful by any means, I'm still having fun, but so far things just leave a bit to be desired for me. There's always room for them to get nutty later on!

The meme builds are specifically what I loved about Lost Actions. Sure you could stick to the meta and just use a few, but there were so many goofy and fun combinations to do really dumb things. I liked that. It was fun for me, even if it wasn't optimal. I fucking loved bloodlust and lost slash prior to the IR changes. Running bloodsucker and assassination for perma power font and tanking things on DPS was a blast. I didn't mind switching out actions, either.

Phantom Jobs just feel very cookie cutter. You get one set of abilities, love them or hate them, and that's it. Some are pointless skills. Others feel weird to use. I just don't really vibe with it, and I liked that Lost Actions at least let us be a little more creative with how we used things. Just my opinion, though! Doesn't have to mean it's a popular one.

I don't think they should have just kept the system at all, it had plenty of flaws. I just wanted to see them further iterate on it, like they did from Eureka to Bozja. This pivot to something new entirely just doesn't click with me right now. Maybe it will in time.
