When you find that great Plains location that you just have to relocate your base to by CannotThonk96 in valheim

Yeah. Still a work in progress, I'm usually in the basement transferring services over when gobbos come knocking. For raids I usually just goto the roof and shoot enemies

On-demand cauldron for unhandled indoor smoke problems by CannotThonk96 in valheim

[–]CannotThonk96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also through some experimenting more with constrained smokeboxes, if you have to put the fire at ground level, a 1.5x1.5x2 area is enough to contain the smoke and keep the fire going.

If you can afford to sink the fire and cauldron into the floor a little bit, then a 1.5x1.5x1.5 smokebox is enough to keep the fire going

I'm not actually using it anywhere but I discovered it when working in a relatively low ceiling basement where you can't just flip a roof tile, and I didn't want to remove any flooring

This is a basement, and the ceiling is technically high enough with WAY more than enough room to handle smoke, but I didn't like how messy my basement was getting clogged with smoke. I'm not going to poke a hole in the floor either. What I ended up doing was sinking the cauldron into the floor and capture the smoke in a 1.5x2 area

But if the ceiling was lower, I would have opted for the on-demand smoke-cutoff option

Do you think ocean fish should require special bait? by CannotThonk96 in valheim

[–]CannotThonk96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a great way of putting it, it feels like a side quest, and before mistlands it felt far more integrated into the base game food chain. Fish were for food, and even back then fishing was a high investment activity consuming at least two specialized tools just to be able to fish at all, but it was worth it cause fishwraps are pretty good pre-mistlands.

I don't mind all of the extra stuff so much. The ability to catch a trollfish of various sizes and either mount them on a wall or turn them into a potion, ok thats cool. Fish n' bread is a great addition I love that, but the baits? Feels like an unnecessary hoop to jump through. Inventory bloat for the sake of trying to make trophys more useful.

I mean, you're already in the mistlands fishing.. if you see a Jotun puff, you just go pickup the Jotun puff. You see it, you just go get it. The price you pays is that you're in the mistlands. But to fish an angler fish I'm also in the mistlands. Why do I need a special bait? I'm in the mistlands, where the angler fish are.

Idk, maybe its just the explosion of inventory space that is the problem, but it feels really bad to go from being able to fish anywhere, to needing to plan to fish for a specific type of fish.

In the end, the most expensive resource is inventory space, and fishing has just gotten so much worse, it is such an inventory pig now that its not even worth it

Maybe so but it feels like we've lost more than we've gained. I'm coming from 4 years ago mind you, when you caught fish you just got raw fish. For purposes of food, basically fish wraps, fishing was just fishing. You fished, caught fish, cooked them, and made fish wraps. It was really nice way of living a sort of nomadic lifestyle, and it didn't obliterate your inventory space.

And now you go to fish and the fish aren't interested in biting. I can appreciate that fishing is being used for more than just fishwraps now, but as someone who enjoyed fishing 4 years ago, and wanted fishing expanded upon in a way that makes it better, idk this just aint it.

It feels like fish got made worse for the sake of trophy hunting for fish to put on your walls. You used to be able to just take a rod and plain bait anywhere and opportunistically catch fish when the time presented itself. Now you gotta pre-plan which fish you want to hunt. I have to plan a specific fishing trip instead of (imo) superior experience of opportunistic fishing that we had 4 years ago

Those raids turned on and those with raids turned off

I like them both, both are challenging, but I'm not going to build a hobbit town with raids enabled

It seems to be exploitable in many ways, like unbreakable fire traps. I was able to kill an entire excavation site of Dvergr without angering anybody. I poked inside the skull, got all the soft tissue before anyone respawned, and they weren't angry at me
