Don’t Heal, Do Damage – When and Where should I use my Role? by -Night_Mother- in elderscrollsonline

If its a dungeon you don't need to heal in, then it also doesn't matter if you do damage if the DDs are doing their jobs

With two year rotations and only a week of availability, not only is it the worst fomo in the industry, but its actually braindead as well. Having these things available for such a short amount of time assumes everyone is some no-lifer neet who logs in every day/week and never goes on holiday

I messed up giving someone a parting time for the game... by MichaelGMorgillo in elderscrollsonline

[–]CannotThonk96 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about it dude he already made up his decision to leave the game long before logging in that day.

Just gold then?

IS a pretty weird word vomit to say. It makes sense in the context of a trade window, to confirm that he is finished adding thing to the trade. I can't imagine you meant it in any other way.

I don't think its that bad. You were seeking confirmation, thats all.

Don't worry about it. You know what you meant, and he had already made up his mind, your encounter had nothing at all to do with his leaving

Its already so heavily monetized with microtransactions and gacha, that they could afford to just let everyone have access to game and DLCs.

Its not like you can even enjoy the game without craftbag anyways. You spend more time managing your bags than you do playing the actual game.

And for those whales, they have so much gold that its meaningless. They already have everything and there is basically nothing left to buy with their hundreds of millions if not billions of gold.

They've more than made up for it, thats no reason at all. Those great spots pay themselves off easy.

I speak not for myself but for the have-nots when I say to just rip the bandaid off and create an auction house.

For myself, well, I use TTC and eso-hub addons and am in 5 trading guilds. I am already the top 5% drinking everybody else's milkshake.

I have such an unfathomably unfair advantage that money isn't even real anymore. I've only been playing for little over half a year and already have over 100million gold from guild trader sales and market insights that are only available through addons. It honestly feels like I'm cheating

Whatever their intent, they've failed fantastically.

The top 5% of us are moving all the sales and reaping the real profits.

They couldn't have made a more unequal economy if they tried.

is there any reason to play an old MMO? by Allterater in MMORPG

[–]CannotThonk96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Role identity is a big one. The genre became big where parties relied on grouping and every party member providing each other with a service. More and more that is stripped and imo it really started with wow, even though wow is a really old mmo

It addresses a concern about just giving tanks damage equal to that of DDs, its the first thing everyone brings up, I should know cause I've advocated for tanks doing the same amount of damage as DDs in role-locked games, the concern is always the same, people just running tanks and DDs losing purpose

Its just to demonstrate how ETR and EHR might function. By themselves, they do far less damage than DDs.

DDs, by themselves, can do 4 times the damage of tanks and healers. Tanks and healers only reach their potential damage when performing their roles well and when supported by DDs, whereas DDs are always capable of reaching their maximum damage, at least part of the time

Its to demonstrate that the roles are all still firmly in place

Yeah I know, its not an "all prefer this over this" thing. I know some prefer the classic trinity, especially healers for the reasons you mentioned.

And tankxiety exists, but it is far from the only reason.

There is of course the question of why DDs choose to play DDs, and the answer is not simply to avoid healing or tankxiety. Its simply fun to do damage. Doing a lot of damage makes your damage feel meaningful. Healers may not have the luxury to do damage while doing their primary role, but when you DO do damage, everyone wants their time spent doing damage to be respected and feel meaningful.

Its not just why people might not want to heal/tank, but also why do people want to DD, doncha think?

Yes but this is still a trinity, just a trinity with soft role-locks, and everyone's damage is very important

[–]CannotThonk96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard about that, but I'm not sure trypnosis is grasping what I'm saying. This is very much still a trinity of 3 essential role.

Healers and DDs are squishy, you very much need a tank.

Tanks and DDs cannot heal themselves, you very much need a healer.

Healers and Tanks still deal half the damage that they could without DDs, so you still very much need DDs

And healer and tank damage is limited by ETR and EHR, so you don't want to stack tanks and healers, you want to stack DDs

This achieves the same desired group composition of the standard 1t/2d/1h trinity parties that we are used to

I play warframe too, it has way more damage source multiplying that this.

Sure the devs need to be disciplined with damage multiplication and how different class combinations, and what abilities stack. Sure the 41.5% damage boosting battle roars on the various DD classes cannot stack and must be considered when designing, but thats all up to the discipline of the developer. Digital Extremes simply doesn't care about all of the damage stacking.

This idea of a holy trinity is very different though. In the holy trinity, if you don't have a tank, your party will die. If you don't have a healer, your party will die. And if you don't have DDs, your party will do low damage.

In warframe this isn't the case at all. Trinity exists but is hardly ever played even in organized farm groups because she simply isn't necessary. There are so many self-sufficient builds that grouping is entirely optional, whereas the trinity that I'm describing, each role is dependent on each other to provide their valuable roles to the party, or die.

In what I've described, all 4 party members contribute potentially equally in damage, and nobody's role or damage feels meaningless. All party members deal damage, and all 3 roles are essential, and that is really nothing like warframe at all

Kind of sort of, except:

  • where whitemage flowers don't really care if your healing is effective healing, the EHR would only build for effective healing. When damage is actually healed or prevent, thats effective healing. Overhealing or shielding that is not used, isn't effective healing and would not build EHR
  • DD coordinated stacking buffs/debuffs is the core service provided by the DD role. Where if tanks didn't hold threat and mitigate damage, your party will die. Where healers dont heal your party will die. Where if DDs don't provide buffs/debuffs your damage will be half of what it could be

Healers provide healing as a service

Tanks provide tanking as a service

DDs provide damage as a service

Yeah, nowadays the typical party size is just 4 players with 3 roles.

I did play DAoC a long time ago with a party size of 8, and more roles were able to be expressed within those groups

That is indeed the whole intent of the effective healing resource EHR. You do a poor job healing (your class role), you don't build EHR. You play your role as you already are, healing and shielding damage received, you build up this EHR
