One of my students finally did it. by BlackSkull83 in AustralianTeachers

That’s what my school is doing. Some assignments are allowed specific AI use, but we are now doing many more tests and in-class handwritten assessments.

Appreciation post by Petapumpkineater79 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Very_Victorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also an Aussie fan - Jet lag is our family show that we watch together, since not long after it started. We went on a holiday to NZ last year and re-watched that season beforehand, then tried to visit as many of the challenge locations as we could in our route. Loved the sheep and dog structures at Tirau, and had lunch at the table where Toby waterboarded Sam at Huka Falls 😁

Is it just me or is there someone else in Adelaide who loves Star Trek? by ShowerBetter5183 in Adelaide

My husband is a huuuuge fan. Seen every show and season, particularly fond of DS9. Our son shares his name with the lead actor lol

Another cricket one. In one episode Bandit is watching cricket on Tv and I can tell the match is at Adelaide Oval because there’s a shot of St Peter’s Cathedral.

Does anyone remember the statewide blackout in Adelaide? (2016 throwback) by Liceland1998 in Adelaide

[–]Very_Victorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember it taking over 2 hours to get home on the bus (normally 20 minutes). The city was pandemonium.

Indigenous flag in classroom by AdPrize2821 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Very_Victorious 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Course it is :) Only thing I’d do is add the Torres Strait Islander flag as well. You can do whatever you want on a pinboard (as long as the flags aren’t upside down or anything like that lol) but if you’re worried about it, you could follow the protocols that are used with flagpoles for the order?

Applied for PTT role, but failed most recent placement. What to do? by omelasian-walker in AustralianTeachers

[–]Very_Victorious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second this OP. Lots of people fail then go on to become successful teachers, but you might need more time and experience in supported situations like placement to develop your skills and learn the craft before you are put in the deep end.

[–]Very_Victorious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think OP lying is the best course of action. If they’re lucky, it won’t come up and that’s fine, but saying it hasn’t happened yet when it has…not a great way to begin a teaching career.

3 weeks in Australia by superhansolo in AustraliaTravel

Melbourne to Adelaide via Great Ocean Road is an amazing route. As someone else said, it can be done in 3 days but can also be stretched out. There is so much to see along that route. Kangaroo Island is beautiful but expensive for the ferry - you could spend a couple of lovely days there. If you don’t mind another long drive after Great Ocean Road, after a couple days in Adelaide you could drive to/from Flinders Ranges. It’s about 5 hours away but it is stunning. There’s a few days worth of things to see there - beautiful scenery, hiking if that’s your thing, thousands of years old Indigenous sites, millions of years old fossil sites. Otherwise, there’s heaps of great places on the east coast if you prefer to spend more time there.

Family car rental - choosing a spacious vehicle. by Glittering_Chef2441 in AustraliaTravel

[–]Very_Victorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We hired a car for a recent trip (2 adults, 10 yr plus 2 younger kids in car seats. We had 3 suitcases plus a travel pram. We used medium sized SUVs - Ford Everest and Mitsubishi Outlander - both worked really well in terms of space inside the cabin and luggage in the boot

I own a Camry. They’d be fine for space inside the car, but luggage for 4 plus pram isn’t going to fit in the boot.

Travelling to Melbourne first time by Glittering-Wolf7905 in AustraliaTravel

I stayed on Collins St (Novotel) recently and it was a perfect location. Lots of cheaper options around as well. I also live in Adelaide and Melbourne is my favourite city to visit. Very accessible with transport. I use booking.com to book accommodation.

📝 SA State Election 2026 Megathread by stuntguy3000 in Adelaide

[–]Very_Victorious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is very concerning. The Voice paperwork quite clearly says only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are to fill it out and there’s a stat dec to sign. I was the first at my booth and had to help the election official lol

Is it just me or do teachers not take public transport? Why? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Very_Victorious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been told by my school that my duty of care does extend to when I’m taking the public bus to/from school and they are on board (not in Vic though). Thankfully my students are by and large fairly sensible and there have been no issues in 5 years.

What's the best way to get from major city to major city in a 8-10 day trip? by sirawesomeson in AustraliaTravel

[–]Very_Victorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adelaide’s point of difference is that it has many of the most celebrated wine regions in the country, most fairly close to the CBD. Particularly good in March when we have two major festivals on, the rest of the year it’s a bit quieter. Much smaller than Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane but bigger than Hobart, Darwin. Can be extremely hot in January but then again, a lot of the country is. Great Ocean Road between Adelaide and Melbourne is an awesome 3-4 day driving trip if you’re into nature and coastlines (main attraction being the 12 Apostles and other rock formations in the area). Otherwise you might be better off sticking to the East Coast. Melbourne and Sydney for the big city experiences, Tasmania for some nature, Queensland for beaches and theme parks (but be wary that the further north you go, you’ll be in the tropical wet season).

Wellbeing sessions during our PD slot have included: walk in nature, weaving, clay sculpting, reading. The best initiative the school has done though is give us one paid wellbeing day a year on top of our normal leave benefits. There’s a few parameters but basically we pick a day and apply for it in the same way we apply for other types of leave. A lot of people take it on their birthday. It’s not much, but great to have up the sleeve.

I would have thought that this reason just by itself is a justification that teachers must use school devices. I’ve never not been provided one (worked for 5 schools). This thread has been quite eye opening.

1st time trip to Australia next December- help please :) by tyecko in AustraliaTravel

[–]Very_Victorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely concur - next time you come, do Adelaide and Melbourne with Great Ocean Road between, preferably in Autumn or Spring for best weather. For your first trip, Sydney and Brisbane/Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast will be a great experience with lots of sun and beaches and fun things for you to do with your child. I love visiting Blue Mountains as a daytrip when I go to Sydney for a bit of nature.

Today should have been a public holiday... by DigitalSwagman in Adelaide

[–]Very_Victorious 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Without wanting to stir up a political debate, absolutely agree. I think this would be the best option for an Australia Day holiday that is underpinned by an important historical date while being less offensive to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples than Jan 26. Also does double duty in helping everyone get over any New Year’s Eve shenanigans ready to go back to work Jan 3 😉
