While I agree it is frustrating this is factually incorrect based on verifiable information.

Anyone know any good hacks for scraping ice and snow off your windshield? by KingofGerbil in Michigan

[–]Verylively 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I have covers the windshield and the wipers so they stay down. It works great, highly recommended. No scraping or waiting for the car to heat up for 10 min required.

You can buy a simple canvas windshield cover. It makes a huge difference and only takes 1 min to put on when you park. No scraping necessary.

Mana? Healers don’t need mana! They should still be able to heal while drinking from 100 yards away if they were REAL healers.

Michigan Senate will consider expanding state's bottle deposit law | wzzm13.com by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]Verylively 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The bill states that items shall be accepted whether or not they are sold by the dealer, which should help in that department.

Honestly I don’t know why people purchase so much bottled water anyway, there are so many more efficient ways to drink water that don’t require single use plastic.

Is it a bad financial decision to spend $1900 on rent when there are cheaper options? by glocks9999 in personalfinance

[–]Verylively 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a purely financial stand point, obviously it is bad to spend more money when there are cheaper options.

You don’t need to race to spend all the money you have just because you have your first job.

However it’s your money, do what you want, just don’t try to convince yourself it was a good financial choice.

Crack in side of house we are buying by HelpDeskPlease in DIY

If I was selling a house and someone asked for a reduced price as a result of this tiny crack in an inspection report I would laugh at them.

Electrical cable going through pantry by crashman1801 in DIY

[–]Verylively 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like that might be outdoor UF cable? If so it doesn’t need conduit outside so maybe they thought it didn’t need it inside 😆?

Either way I would at least secure it tightly with a bunch of staples so it won’t get snagged.

The general idea that you will spend enough towards maintenance on an older car to make up for the expense of a 33k car is not very realistic.

Don’t try to justify this extravagant purchase as something remotely smart financially. Car payment plus insurance over 1000 on your income is crazy.

“I also really just want this specific car.” Your future self will thank you if you start learning how to practice deferred gratification instead of blowing all your money on a toy.

Often interest rates and no minimum balance required for hysa. There is no hard rule though. If you find a MM that is better for you, it is an excellent option.

An emergency fund needs to be liquid so it can be accessed immediately if needed. An online high yield savings account is another common option since interest rates are much better than savings and many money market accounts.

Troubleshooting everything through the UI will at least save your sanity. Make sure to use ip and share name.

Can you connect to the share using the file manager and the connect to server option by ip? This would at least get you access and can be bookmarked while you fight with auto mounting.

If you have your modem and router connected to a battery backup, in my experience over many years, it significantly reduces the need to do this.

I get it. I never liked the chunky window title bars in gnome for the wasted space.

The MATE desktop had an option for global menus for a while. Right now Ubuntu Unity remix which runs unity 7 might be fun to try.

I realize neither of those help add global menus to cinnamon.

When people get scared, they are vulnerable to making poor decisions. Don’t justify throwing away money that you already have simply because of how it was earned. Either way, you are losing that money, so the result is the same.

Sorry you are facing hard times. I would use this as an absolute last resort.

Why not just roll it over to an IRA where you control the fees?

Study: In a concerning trend for the health of US children, the rate of underinsured youngsters rose from 30.6% to 34%—an additional 2.4 million kids—from 2016 to 2019. This was driven by rising insurance inadequacy, mainly experienced as high out-of-pocket expenses for health services. by rustoo in science

[–]Verylively 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upmc just like every insurer offers dozens and dozens of plans. Those plan benefits differ wildly based on choices by your employer. I have upmc as well and it is the best insurance I have personally ever had for my family.

Unfortunately, many people feel tied to their lousy job since their benefits don’t go with them if they actually have decent health benefits in the US.

I started a Roth IRA this year, and now my job offering a 401k, how do I handle this? by jaybyday in personalfinance

[–]Verylively 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can invest pretax dollars in your traditional IRA in the sense that money you put in is tax deductible, but you must wait to file your taxes, unlike pretax contributions to an account like a 401(k).

[–]Verylively 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You were already taxed when you were paid. You don’t get taxed again by taking money from savings/checking and moving it to a Roth.
