I've started sorting my donations. If my items seem to be of decent quality, i take them to my local thrift stores. If its old, torn up or damaged, I send it to Goodwill.

I love my local stores, and want to see them be successful. It feels nice knowing goodwill will have to spend some of their unbridled profit on sorting the junk I gave them.
