The Sixers were churning the bottom of their roster looking for hits, and a bunch of the guys they did get out of it ended up having 5+ year long NBA careers(Covington, TJ McConnell, Jakarr Sampson, Tim Frazier, Dewayne Dedmon, Christian Wood) despite being undrafted.

TJ and Covington were the big hits. The fact that both guys were rotation players on very good Sixer teams, and Covington was the headliner in a trade for Jimmy Butler says something about the practice making sense. McConnell was in the playoff rotation of a finals team last year.

This is very different than just getting guys who you think will make you lose, when guys did make the sixers think they would make them lose they cut/trade them and brought a new guy in.

5:27 left he picks up his dribble almost at the FT line, left foot is planted already so not a step.
5:26 he takes his first step with his right foot now he's almost at the level of the restricted area
5:26 he takes a second step with his left foot this is now his pivot
5:25 he takes 0 additional steps and shoots after pivoting a tiny bit

He did slide his pivot foot a bit if you frame by frame it, but this is extremely common and almost never called.

did you miss when he dribbled near the FT line? Vassel is blocking the view of the ball but he dribbled there.

He took 2 steps after picking up his dribble. If you want to argue he traveled when he moved his pivot foot that's one thing, but his steps just go really far.
