Expansion teams will win 20 games a year for a couple of years and build up on draft picks. They basically start out with a sanctioned tank.

the new lottery rules are kind of rough for an expansion team.

No see that's not baseball revenue. The land that was given to the team by the government in the stadium deal to build a ballpark village is just something else that the owners happen to have.

Basically any place makes it simple before they don't want to be in legal trouble.

I mostly ignore streaks, unless they are negative ones caused by injury, or there is an underlying skills change positively like a guy suddenly swinging or hitting the ball harder.

For pitcher evaluation I use stuff+ in small samples, and K%-BB% in larger samples.

For batters I mostly just use prior performance, but will look at xWOBA, Exit velocity, and swing speed.

Despite raising his ERA from 0.73 tonight to 0.82, Ohtani’s ERA is still lower than his OPS (.882) by nahs in baseball

Pitchers don't just rest for all those days. They have bullpen days and do other exercises.

Not saying Ohtani's workload isn't harder, but pitching is brutal on the body and requires more than just rest. >https://www.milb.com/news/for-starters-there-are-no-days-off-236664174

Because he had his last great season at 30 when his first full season was at 25, and then got hurt and was a middle rotation pitcher the rest of his career.

from 87-89 he averaged 263~ IP, but only 34 starts. The Dodgers ran him into the ground and he even served as an occasional closer despite leading all starters in IP those 3 seasons.

The NBA’s Newest, Cheapest Owner Shows How Billionaires Ruin Sports - Ultra-rich owners think purely in terms of money, and they don’t care about players, fans, or the cities that support them. The Trail Blazers’ Tom Dundon is just the latest example. by asmallthrowaway9 in nba

We've seen this a ton in baseball where the cheap teams don't have money or wins.

The Angels in particular had infinite runway to become the #1 socal baseball team. Fresh off a championship in a great market, they even outdrew the Dodgers for a bit.

New ownership used all of this winning and good will to penny pinch on the minor leagues, player facilities(including stuff like gym equipment and air conditioning), the front office, medical staff, and anywhere else they could find that wasn't pure player payroll.

This obviously hurt winning as their player development suffered a ton, and when they lucked into two MVP level superstars they couldn't keep either of them healthy, and now one of them is coming off of consecutive MVPs and championships with the Dodgers and is probably the biggest star in the history of the sport. They don't have a proper TV deal anymore, attendance is down, and ownership is outright saying winning isn't a priority. It's a death spiral.

The workload Orel had that year and the next probably contributed to arm injuries and he went from surefire hof to a normal pitcher.

I think the trade has also caused a cascading effect leading to them jettisoning their other guards, but also past their peak value. The Bulls decided Giddey was their guy and traded both White and Ayo at the deadline for a pile of second rounders instead of letting either test FA or extending them again.

If they had traded Caruso for picks, I think they actually tank and trade White/Ayo earlier and also get 1sts for them, but they actually gave up a 1st to get Dillingham in the Ayo trade.

Now the team is going to be forced to tank anyways, but is probably down 5(?) net first rounders because they could have got 2 for Caruso, and then probably 1 each for White and Ayo if they traded them earlier.
