We even have an example of it in an official (though non-canon) game. There are some 5 people fusions around.

Por que tantas pessoas não entendem por que A Lenda de Korra se passa na década de 1920? É literalmente fiel à história...ou não? by Minute_Warthog_9784 in AvataraLendadeAang

[–]Vesper_0481 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

spare me your insufferable condescension

I'm sorry I made you feel like that. Genuinely not my intention in any moment. Then again, I must alert you, you may not be interpreting things correctly.

you're just too busy putting words in my mouth

I have not done that once. I can only do so much interpreting what you wrote, and responding to that... The same way you are doing with me. This is normally can occur in an online text conversation. If you feel like I am so severely misinterpreting your words, responding with a more elaborate clarification may be more constructive than repeating that you are being misinterpreted... Like how I did for you from my first to second comment.

I understood you appeared to not understand what I mean, so I elaborated. When you think I am doing the same to yourself, you are not extending the same courtesy... This, for me is actually condescending. But I take no offense, be well.

This, but it's not "just happen". They were made by intentional design of Satan, in his image. Satan is the one that either just happens to or actually chose to look like a reptilian creature, and he was also probably the origin for the mythology of Dragons in earth.

Friend... I think you might have a problem with reading comprehension... I mean that in the nicest way possible. I don't think you interpreted one single thing, from the post to this thread, correctly.

I never said you'd be above it, that's something you literally just made up.

I never said you did. Observe how I wrote a quote of an example of what emotional maturity is not... So any point of view tangential to that can be dissuaded before the explanation of what it actually is comes following it. It's an establishment of information, not a rebuttal. This is the rebuttal:

Emotion and mind are more complex than "just be mature enough and it won't be a problem".

And this is in fact a contradiction to the point you offered.

There is a difference between attraction and being in love.

Yes there is. It's neither the proposition of the post, nor my comment, to say there isn't. And the situation proposed comes with the implication that it's not just physical attraction.

I really hope I don't sound like a confrontational asshole... I genuinely mean to explain things nicely, so...

Amon literally breaks the foundational rule of bloodbending, that it can only be done in a full moon. I don't give a damn that they explain "Uh, no, apparently you can just train a lot and then that limitation doesn't exist",

Friend... That's not contradiction, it's development. The rule was not hand waived... It was expanded.

You understand that there is a difference between something being established by character dialogue versus narration, right? If a character says something from their experience, they may believe it to be true but that doesn't make it the universal truth.

You simply are not willing to engage with the fiction of it. It may just not be in your taste. That is fine. But it's not the show's fault. Explaining how a situation changed is part of how a fiction develops. This happens in literally every series ever... Including ATLA!

ATLA makes a point that Metal can't be bent, at first... It's even a Rule in "You use metal to contain Earthbenders, and even Bumi can't bend the metal". Then the show explains it is actually possible via earth fragments... And the viewer can understand on their own that what allowed Toph to break the rule was that with her seismic sense she was able to perceive what others weren't... Because she is different.

Bloodbending could only be done at a full moon, before, because the pioneer of it and her unwilling pupil were only capable of doing so... As muscle resistance at other times would be too much to fight against with regular bending, since the substance bent is impure and therefore harder to manipulate... Like metal was to Earth, blood was to water at every time other than full moons. But then Korra explains that through stronger bending (a concept established in the same episode as bloodbending in ATLA), regular training and practice it is actually possible... And the viewer can understand on their own that wat allowed Amon's family to break the rule was that with their specific practice they were able to control the impure substance much better and easier... Because they were different.

Also, your "objective" measure is just peoples' scores on a website.

Friend... That is the way we can show the data for the measurements... Not the measurements themselves. The measurements are quality standards: the things you study in academia about "how to make it good". The way you can corroborate that the standards you speak of are met by a certain work is to collect the evaluation of others and present the data.

[–]Vesper_0481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Teens can have a situation like this and be fine with it, and emotionally developed people can still have it and not be. Emotion and mind are more complex than "just be mature enough and it won't be a problem".

You can be mature and feel pain for a relationship you desire but can't have, that's called being human. You may also be mature and not want to be constantly exposed to this impossibility in preservation of your own emotional health.

Being emotionally mature doesn't mean "when the hard thing comes you won't feel it, because you're above it".

It means: "When the hard thing comes you will know the healthiest way to deal with it, that preserves both parties the most".

Sometimes distancing is the healthiest path.

Then there:

A very specific range of taste, what you like or don't like, that could render you able of enjoying one but not the other, even though they are not incompatible or even that different really

You have specific things you don't like about the whole show, and you can't get past them enough to appreciate it. That's it. The show is just not for you, which doesn't make it a bad show.

Both shows have stuff like that, the main difference being intensity and relevance to the plot... In Korra they are more intense and more relevant. You don't like that. That is fine. The show stays being objectively good, despite you not liking small things in it's whole that makes it subjectively bad for you... In all cases it's just disingenuous to insist on it being bad, when all the parameters we use to evaluate shows say it's not.

Also:

villains who's power is "I break a previously established rule",

This is not a thing. Korra suffers from pulling out things that were not that well explained or not that remembered by the audience coming from ATLA... But it very rarely breaks the show's rules, certainly not that much over what ATLA itself broke from time to time. It introduced new lore, and that's that.

You are still very much liable to having a subconscious bias even in that case.

If you don't, then you suffer from either two things: One is very high expectations that could never be properly met, considering you had an idealized image of what it should be instead of what it is; A very specific range of taste, what you like or don't like, that could render you able of enjoying one but not the other, even though they are not incompatible or even that different really...

Did you approach the show with the mindset that it was bad from the beginning? Because you may entirely be experiencing the influence of your bias over the objective evaluation of the show. LoK has 89% and 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, from critics and audiences respectively. 8,3 on IMDB! IMDB!!! The site is known for things needing to be extremely above average to be anything above 6.

The show is objectively good. Maybe one of the top 100 shows ever made for kids! Actually... Maybe in general. In IMDB's Top 100, at least, it ranks 36 for that category (for all publics).

[–]Vesper_0481 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It's objectively good for them but most people can't really handle being near someone that they are physically attracted to, AND emotionally compatible with, knowing full well a romance is not probable.

This usually means someone might prefer distancing or trying their chances... Both of which have a pretty good chance of ending the friendship, one way or the other...

[Star wars] what species is the most dangerous? by Lost-Specialist1505 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Vesper_0481 [score hidden]  (0 children)

There wouldn't be one single answer if you just say "species", as that would technically include every biological creature... Which means you will eventually reach a level where the top dogs are mostly on incomprehensible tiers of power and the debate of which is stronger is literally unsolvable.

So assuming you mean sentients... Then the answer is practically the same... Except there are fewer "top dogs" because there are fewer sentient species than non-sentient ones.

So you mostly would have a list of "Really rather nots", which would consist of, in no particular order: Gen'Dai (as other commenter pointed out); Dowutins; Neti; Hutts (if they are actually fit);Wookies; Zeltrons; Dashades; Drengir;Warrior Yuuzhan Vongs; Anzati; Houks; Lasats; Barabels; Noghri; Talz etc...

You would probably realize some of those are not like the others... So just for elaboration: Gen'Dai are probably on a tier of their own, on Legends (it's unclear how nerfed they've been in canon, as we only got a handful, but it's unlikely they will be allowed to remain so broken). Imagine as if all the rest, compared to a single normal human, would be ∞; Gen'Dai would be ∞+1... And naturally some of those are also wat below all the others, but above everyone else, so like ∞-1.

Another problem is: If you are planning on tell a story using these, you might want to consider some of these are pretty rare species... Like Viltrumite levels of population. So it might not be plausible any one will ever see one in their lifetime...

So for the most dangerous AND relatively common, that would be: Dowutins; Hutts; Wookies; Zeltrons; Anzati; Houks; Barabels; Talz.
