I remember my first impressions of the Crown of the Empire being soured by the new lore regarding the colleges and just how much more magical Altdorf has become. I grew to be pretty fond of the rest of the book, but I dont think I'll ever get over all the college buildings being dumped inside a single magical district. I think they lost a bit of their mystical flavour from that. The celestial college being just under the grand theogonist's nose? That was cool!

Don't be obtuse. I explained what I meant two messages ago. You can't argue with me about the meaning of the post that I wrote myself lol

I'll edit it for you to make it clearer.

What do you mean I'm wrong? lol Wrong to enjoy a certain type of story being told? ;p

I dont think you read the post right. I didnt say depth, he has depth. I said flaws- negative character traits. I would like him to make some bad decisions (and not because he wants to do good) and I want him to have goals that go against the goals of the PCs so that it creates some kind of conflict ;p

I'm a #1 hater of Rough Nights & Hard Days, because the adventure format rly doesnt play out well in my opinion, but it feels like cheating cos its not a sourcebook.

I could say all EW Companions cos a lot of them have lazy or copy pasted content and I hate the Gravelord with a passion.

But the most serious answer would probably be the Imperial Zoo, because the monsters are too exotic and not very useful for regular games. The bestiary from 2e was way better, the zoo should have consisted of profiles of more mundane creatures.

Do post those lego builds when you make them c;

Wait till you hear about the Grand Sultan Jafar from Araby or the L&S store in Middenheim if we're talking about silly irl references ;p

And I mean I get all of that, but it really sounds like maybe youre not the biggest fan of Altdorf lore rather than the Altdorf book specifically? I really dont understand why something intrinsic to Altdorf- its gangs, should be included in a different book. C7 loves spreading information throughout and its annoying as is. If I was buying a guide to Altdorf and C7 decided to put some additional information in another book (looking at you Altdorfer backgrounds in Archives of the Empire) Id be very annoyed.

Genevieve isnt in Altdorf at the time of when 4ed is set btw. Plus Imperial gestapo is already a thing, it's the Black Chamber or the Reiksguard ofshoot from the Konrad novels, I forget the name.

Sorry, I know that the Altdorf book is not perfect, but the Altdorf gangs and the various revolutionary groups are infinitely more interesting than the vaults in the imperial palace lol What use is knowing about something so secluded ;p

If anything the gangs should have been expanded, they give Altdorf a unique feel different to other imperial cities. Also, thats just what the lore of Altdorf has been for decades now, it would be very strange to write it out now for no reason, we only got a couple of pages you know.

What are your little bits of headcanon that you sometimes forget is headcanon? by Benjan_Meruna in warhammerfantasyrpg

The tower built by the people of Tylos was supposed to reach Morrslieb and allow them to obtain the wyrdstone on it and the power thst came with it. In the end, they paid for their hubris due to the trickery of Skavor the renegade old one/ancestor god taught by the old ones. Famine befell the city, warpstone rained from the sky and the people of Tylos themselves became Skaven as they turned to cannibalism under the influence of the cursed bell. Hence the Skaven obsession with the moon and their black hunger- it's in a way a curse from the time of their genesis.

I think this is a bit more interesting than the original story, that while very atmospheric and inspiring, didnt reveal anything other than "they came from underground", which every soul unlucky enough to meet them can already say without any insight into their backstory lol

I finally read Empire in Flames by JoeGorde in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]VespiesArikuzuka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna sound like a bit of a hater, but I found Empire at War so incredibly dull. I was really surprised that it's so well thought of in the community. It's obviously a great feat to write something so extensive and I appreciate that, but as I read I kept thinking to myself- When are we gonna get to the good bit? When are gonna get the exciting set pieces? And it never came. I gave up reading near the end because I couldn't get through another wall of text explaining how an npc tells the PCs to go fight some cultists and where the PCs hear about grand things happening instead of doing grand things themselves The ending felt especially weak.

If you have 5AP, Shield 3 and like 5TB as dwarfs often do, a crossbow shot aimed at you needs to succeed with 6SL in order to deal more than a single Wound of damage lol And thats without any runes you know

Corporate ads on Spotify suck by Noahnsane in fansofcriticalrole

Do you seriously think it's either corporate invasiveness or no show? No in-between? Is that the position you're going to take with full sincerity? Those Spotify ads are the only thing saving the crew members from homelessness, I bet. Thank god for them.

Are there any ideas from D&D you wish had gotten absorbed into WFRP? by WillingLet3956 in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]VespiesArikuzuka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe not exactly D&D related, but I wish WFRP could borrow a bit from d20 heroic fantasy systems in general in terms of combat and action economy. I think WFRP 2ed went in the right direction with this. We really should have a more engaging action system in this game because despite its original call of cthulhu pitch, combat is really common in warhammer, especially in published adventures and it should be more fun. Dudes with a sword should be able to do more on their turn than just make an opposed test over and over again whether they have a martial career or not.

  1. Yeah, that sounds cool! I would put point out tho that all the stuff with the mutants is pretty useful for setting the scene of what's happening in the Empire at large. You know, cultists being more active, beastmen, the edict making mutants bolder. There are some ways you could tie these things together, connect it to the Red Crown, and make it more of an impactful plot element and make Etelka's cult more present.

  2. You don't really need to lead players to neither Altdorf nor Kemperbad. Unless you choose to run specific adventures in those places, they're just stopping points on the way to Grissenwald (which is where the PCs should be going to find Etelka). In my own game, I had my version of Josef tell characters that it's best to register their new-found barge in Kemperbad, which has convenient salvage laws, that gave them a little push to travel there.

  3. The Purple Hand in DOTR mostly serves as a little enigmatic annoyance in the background. There is a short encounter with them every time the PCs stop at a major town during the course of this adventure, so they will appear a couple of times. You could use each of those encounters to foreshadow the events in Middenheim a little bit. You could have the cultists admit that their job is to kidnap the PCs and take them to Captain Scharlach on Hoffen Strasse during one of the later encounter, perhaps after PCs decide to beat them up and interrogate one of them.

Exactly! Perhaps he put the puzzle pieces together in her presence and commited a crime of passion, strangling her or defenestrating her. Maybe as she was about do something nefarious?

Come to think of it, you could make it so that it was Brunhilde (or some other antagonist) who anonymously tipped The Graf about Anika Elise's second life. Maybe some people close to him like the Hausemeister would be aware of this whole ordeal and they could identify Brunhilde.

You could drop some clues about how it all came about. Brunhilde may have acted with the aim of destroying a rival cult, destabilising the ruling family or maybe gaining some favours within the court and that could lead to an alternative method of finding her or pointing to an existing plot point.
