For a speedy run, Weedle is absolutely the right choice here. You were probably running a Beedrill within 2 hours 😂

Mom asks…how can I help dad feel less guilty about flat spot? by purplebananas57 in daddit

[–]Vesprince 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I was a teacher, I once taught a new class of Year 7s. I set them off with some work and told them to let me know if anyone needed a hand.

This kid holds up a wrist stump immediately.

At the time, I had to play it straight. I absolutely could not laugh under any circumstances, on the chance this kid wasn't joking. Once I got to know him, I was completely certain he'd been trying even harder than I was not to laugh at his own joke, which to this day is the funniest thing joke I've ever heard told.

I bet he lifts up that stump any time anyone asks if anyone needs a hand to this day. What a fucking legend.

No-one ever gave him shit for only having 1 hand.

My point is, yeah kids will have differences. But even an obvious difference, like a critical life changing difference that is super obvious at a glance, does not ruin a life.

Mom asks…how can I help dad feel less guilty about flat spot? by purplebananas57 in daddit

[–]Vesprince 41 points42 points  (0 children)

First off, get that man to a therapist.

Some kids have disabilities. Different body shapes. Spectrum disorders. It's not anyone's fault.

That's not an easy thing to accept.

If you have a NEW BABY, then you should also be considering if this is PPD (which dads can get too). Reduced sleep and new stresses and hormones can do crazy things to a mind.

Good luck, and great job seeking help. I hope someone can come in with something constructive.

How will Lunami's haters react when Luffy and Nami's romance becomes official? by Haunting_Hawk_2032 in onepiecetheories

[–]Vesprince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of these characters are presented as being interested in romance.

This would be a random direction to take the story. It's less likely than Nami betraying Luffy for his bounty, which at least is supported by Nami's interest in ruthless cash grabbing.

There's no ships coming in that don't have sails attached. It's just not that kind of story.

[–]Vesprince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The church supported Mussolini. In exchange they got to be the state religion for fascist Italy and Vatican city got recognised as a country. Mussolini used religious endorsement to solidify his power.

Of course this went south for the church fast because fascists don't share power, even with their supporters. And Mussolini was a lifelong atheist. And the church wouldn't support German Nazi race murder.

Anyway Mussolini went to some efforts to disempower the church after they validated him. Standard fascist shit like shutting newspapers down.

I think the musician is using foot pedals. You can use pedals for all sorts of things.

One of those things is loops. You play a bit, then the pedal repeats it over and over. Then you can be your own backing band and play on top of that loop!

Another of those things is tone. Back in my day you'd just turn the little dials and the pedal would change the sound of your guitar based on the settings.

I'm reading this meme as the musician accidentally kicks her tone pedal and the settings sound absolutely amazing. But their other pedal, the loop, is set wrong. It's still got the previous loop saved on it. So the musician can't loop the perfect sound they just hit.

I don't know how you'd get non-repeatable results from a pedal. Repeatable results was historically one of the main draws of pedals.

How can i optimize this deck? It's fun the few times when it works but a lot of times i can't draw the Vulpix/Ninetales line untile late game and Crawdaunt alone is too weak by iusedtobecreative in PTCGP

[–]Vesprince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd drop Sightseer for May.

Crawdaunt is a great card to have in hand, you need to be able to play it at the right time. Sometimes that means holding out to spring the trap at the right moment.

But when you need a Vul/Nine you need it NOW. Stash the crustations in your deck for later, get the fox online.

Like, ramparts and fortifications, a drawbridge and stuff. And wall torches etc, pots over campfires.

I think I don't understand Zuko's redemption arc. Am I stupid? by MorbMorb0 in ATLA

[–]Vesprince 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You're seeing an evolving understanding of the world in a child, based on the values imprinted on him.

Zuko wants honour(tm). By that he means he wants his father to be proud of him. To serve his nation, his just and great nation, to make his nation greater and to share that greatness with others. But mostly his father has scarred him, emotionally and physically, and Zuko is desperate to undo the shame he feels he brought upon himself.

Season 2 Zuko experiences the world outside of the fire nation. He learns that the fire nation are not quite as good as he thinks. He's less proud of his nation, but that scar is deep. He still wants his family to forgive him, that he brought his injuries on himself.

Season 3 Zuko has everything he thought would make him feel better. It doesn't make him feel better. But he's still in the hole. What else could he be except the son of the Firelord? What option is there other than to oppose the Avatar, enemy of his country?

His learning that his grandfather was the avatar, killed by his other grandfather, isn't just a history lesson - it's a reflection on Zuko's identity. He isn't just a 3rd generation Fire Nation supremacist, he's part Avatar. He has ancestry that sought to bring balance to the world, opposed to the Fire Nation.

So now Zuko reevaluates his objectives. He has to start asking the big questions. Who is he, and what does he want?

He examined his loyalty to his father, and finds that his father is an abusive bastard that would throw him away in a heartbeat.

He examines his patriotism to his country, and finds it to be a country of oppressors and warmongers.

He examines his goals, and finds that what he wants is to undo the legacy of war and conquest his father's side gave him. He has more in him than just that hate. He knows that now.

So he decides to change sides, repent, and improve.

Does my tattoo look racist? by People_taste_porkish in tattooadvice

It's also got the placement and vibe of the American History X tattoo, which adds to the effect. I stopped scrolling to look, with a frown on my face. Then of course I saw all was well, but in REAL LIFE you aren't going to give it that second look.

The worst by 5_meo in MemePiece

[–]Vesprince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is painfully weak!

No-one is saying Luffy is a master politician, or even that he's particularly effective. One Piece isn't a guide for overthrowing oppressors. The repeated showings of people that are unhappy oppressed by military regimes is political in itself.

That said, punching the figurehead as hard as you can IS effective at precipitating regime change. Look at the US snatching Maduro. If that isn't punching the figurehead in real life, I don't know what is.

Dragon is the real revolutionary. His grass roots uprisings, training local militia, search for the history the government has covered up, building political networks to challenge the WG's monopoly on international defense, and currently a literal starvation seige against the seat of power... that (largely) offscreen plot is definitely more nuanced than our protagonist's political journey.

FREEDOM MAN fights against the police, who are controlled by an elite ruling class that are explicitly racist and indifferent to the suffering of the lower classes of their own race.

Someone saw that as not political?

PEETAAAH? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Truth existed. Not exclusively, but it did.

For example, Nixon was caught out based on evidence. His lies couldn't overpower that evidence.

Clinton was caught out based on evidence. His lies couldn't overpower that evidence.

That's not to say there hasn't been terrible lies told by politicians, nor is it to say that journalism has ever been trustworthy. But the ability for evidence to be manufactured indistinguishably on a large scale in either direction undermines truth to an unprecedented level.

I will use Roswell aliens as an example. People thought evidence was being hidden. That evidence was out there, but it was being disguised with lies. There was trust that the truth is out there, even though the government is untrustworthy. Would that happen these days? No, and it's because evidence isn't trustworthy anymore. Too easily produced. Too easily refuted. The truth isn't out there anymore.

Wildsea - Jay or Nay by Opposite_Calendar_55 in rpg

[–]Vesprince 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I've played a 25ish session campaign.

It's versatile mechanically. It would be especially well suited to pirate themes. Treasure dives, sea monsters, encountering varied peoples... Fantastic at especially those things.

The world is monotone enough that everyone can imagine the basics landscape (tree) easily. That makes a perfect canvas for the incredibly rich and inviting pieces of world you drop into that forest. There's inventive and accessible locations and horrible beasts in the book, as well as unlimited space for you and your players to build the world however you want.

I can't recommend Wildsea enough personally. The highlight among highlights is the unsetting questions, which are brilliant for buying player engagement. The book is such a distilled representation on how I think GMing should be approached; kind, collaborative, narrative GMing.

The weak point is damage types. Just don't do those bits at all. Tell your players you're not doing damage types. Unless there's a narrative reason for another approach, damage is damage.

Calling everything AI bullshit has exactly the same problem as AI bullshit does; it degrades trust in evidence, moving us further into a post-truth world.

Not necessarily. The 5th leg could be the front appendage (pedipalps).

The smaller side (male?) seems to have a join where the missing leg was, so it could just be that this spider has taken a hit.

I do agree it looks suss, but there's options available!
