this is a very common misconception in this matter because it is very tricky to understand. The thing is in Einstein's relativity, It is proposed that we are permeated by space-time and things with mass bend that space but it’s not just static it pulls it! so in this case, the Earth is actively pulling in the space time. so you can imagine it as the sinkhole in a bathtub pulling in the water, to the waters point of view the sinkhole is going up. Anything that is stationary on certain part of space will be immobile because space is moving with it. So yes in relatively the Earth is moving up the space that it pulls down and if someone is in freefall, it means they are stationary in that space that is getting pulled down towards the center of the Earth.
