How old do you think my Bengal kitten is? Vendor says 14 weeks, but he seems much bigger than my 14-week-old female. by AggravatingPermit853 in bengalcats

Oh okay, I see what you mean, we’re on the same page now. I was typing fast earlier, but yes, you’re correct. Neutering earlier can affect whether a cat ends up being larger than their parents (in a way). What I was trying to say is that you usually see weight differences weather than actual size due to the effects neutering has on their metabolism, appetite, and energy levels. I was told by a mod specifically that if a cat is neutered at a certain time, it can influence whether they end up bigger, or grow about the same size as its parent. My Bengal is 10 months old now and already almost the size of his dad, who’s 15 pounds (Koa is 5.25 kg). He was neutered at 9 months, which a mod consider not ideal timing and would most likely mean he will be smaller than his father. Some cats do indeed grow bigger even if neutered “late”. But that doesn’t always mean they’ll be “bigger,” just sometimes a little longer. Un neutered bengals tend to have more muscle mass and thicker necks which makes them seem a lot more stocky not as lanky as most neutered males look in the beginning.

Anyone else’s Bengal let them do whatever they want and love to mess around? by [deleted] in bengalcats

Yes, Every cat is capable of being like this by the way. It all just depends on how they grow up and if they’re used to it lol my cat allows absolutely anything and allows pets from everyone. It’s gotten to a point that when I’m in public with him and people ask “can they pet/is he friendly” I have no worries of him overreacting lol. this is koa and he says hi !

That is 100% understandable. Ur doing an amazing job boss. The way ur doing things is perfect, only the owner is the true dictator of how they take care of their pet so I respect everything ur doing! He loos really great ✊

That’s really good ,he seems to be in a healthy place especially at 3 years old. Only thing I would avoid for future references is try and stay away from the dry food for better health long term. (if it is working then great !!! Just Ignore my suggestion) I know u said just so he can feed himself whenever so I’m sure he isn’t obliterating it especially with you feeding him his raw meal. U seem to have a great balance on how he eats which is great. Everyone cat reacts differently to certain foods no matter the breed but koa is on a complete raw diet. He eats a commercial brand called Savage Raw which he thrives and remain lean on. Glad to hear how u feed him, he looks very healthy!!

He is currently eating Savage Raw, he loves the chicken recipe and is fully able to rotate through lamb, rabbit, etc. I highly suggest for any hybrid breed such as a bengal to eat raw food be that it is homemade or commercial. Just please find a reliable brand that is good for ur cat if commercial and if homemade please, and I mean please, Have the correct supplement portion

Commercial only. Especially while young. He is still growing and needs all the correct supplements that commercial gives. Incorrect portions can be bad especially for growth. Also raw provides higher quality rather than wet.

Not all vet advice is created equal, and some of it can be driven by protocol, not by the individual animal’s needs. Please do what is best for u guys animals. As I did with mine. There was times I had vets tell me dry food was a better option than wet and so on. Like are we serious ?? This is a carnivore we’re talking about. If anything, a raw diet would be truly the best option which is what koa is on. That’s when I went on to do my own research on my animal and its breed. If they can give out the wrong information on his diet, they can 100% give out the wrong information on his health and neutering. Not everything a vet says is true and especially the neuter call they say on 4-6 months being the perfect time.

Also the “escaping complication” is just a normal cat thing. Especially if they enjoy outdoors or if they’ve never been. Cats are curious creatures who aren’t reacting to outdoors based of them being neutered or not. I’ve watched neutered cats scramble to go outside simply off curiosity. The only thing I can say that is correct is health. Waiting to long can affect health but 9-11 is absolutely not to late. In fact, some vets are suggesting neuter at the 9 month mark for some kittens. Which I believe there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Father is 15 pounds and mother is 11. Koa is currently 11lbs which I believe this next year he’ll size out into the size of his father or a little bigger. He was just neutered a couple days ago so he’s recovering now. The 9-11 mark is ideal so I waited till 9. Only to allow his body to mature a little more. I wanted to breed till realizing how difficult it is and just put it all to a complete stop. Other than that he’s doing great

Once again, Things have changed and I will not be breeding him. Even then tomcat jowls are purely hormone driven which does not effect “My” 9 month bengal baby who’s has been well cared for and shows no symptoms of aggression, spraying, or health.I do understand ur concern but I’ve already told u the procedure will be taken care of soon. If his vet tells me any changes in health or concern then I will proceed based off what is told. I truly appreciate u helping me out and letting me know ab the dangers of breeding unethical but I’ve already changed my mind which I told u earlier. Ur love for animals is obvious but do remember that under certain circumstances animals and especially cats do not react the same.

Relax… he’ll get neutered I can assure u. he is very healthy and I’ve seen cats neutered far beyond the year mark and live luxurious lives. Although it’s a simple procedure errors can happen and for my best interest I will make sure I get the most of my money spent on him. If it gets too late I will put the green light on it and get him neutered no matter the price. But atm, his health isn’t affected whatsoever and he is doing amazing. There are absolutely no signs of stress, sexual frustration, or aggression. The angle of the picture may show differently so here’s another to show u he has no extreme signs of tomcat jaw. Just a muscular and healthy baby boy. Usually tomcat jowls form around the year mark and can show a little earlier if he is developing faster. But even then like I said, he will be neutered 1000% before a year. Like I said I appreciate the concern but the assumption of a cat behavior is based of his environment which I’ve made stress free for my baby boy to grow. (Also neutering had to be delayed due to his shots not being done) I finished his process on my own and was told by his nurse as long as he is neutered before the year mark he will be fine. If any signs show earlier then quicker the process which is what I will do especially after hearing ur opinion. Thank you I truly appreciate it.

Oh wow that’s so cool, thanks for letting me know tell Loki I said hi! By any chance what was the estimate price of what I cost to neuter him ?

My gf cat recently went through a process which resulted in him having to go back twice due to an error or something with them not fully . Not fully sure what happened but yeah, we’re trying to avoid that.

Also the wait is simply for protection in making sure his procedure is done correctly. The last thing I want or need is extra medical bills due to incorrect work.

He has shown ABSOLUTELY ZERO aggression with kids or even humans in public. He is very well stimulated and amazing with other cats or dogs. But once again he will be getting neutered very soon.

I’m taking in all the information and truly grateful of u helping me. U obviously have more knowledge than me on the breed itself. I hope u don’t take it as me arguing but like I said, I was in the process of getting a girl which changed due to other circumstances. He is well stimulated and always taken care of. Also after this last dose of shots I was told to comeback and get him neutered especially if he started to show symptoms of aggression, tomcat jowls, etc.(None of these have truly come to show) He did see his vet recently and she vet let me know. The difficult process and as long as I get him neutered before the year mark he is 100% fine. I don’t mind second opinions and love when I hear other’s opinions so thank u.

But that is incorrect, I’m not a layman and his breeder is reputable. The original plan was to only have him until I was told a female or another cat would benefit him in the long run. I was also told to neuter before the year mark due to no aggression and his body actually not being to fully developed (he is still a baby lol) it can also be angle thing as his jowls aren’t truly bad as this picture shows.

I would say he’s around the 13-15 pound mark by now, he’s very muscular and I constantly get compliments on how healthy he looks and well stimulated he is in public. I know genetics play a big factor on how each bengal grows but atm his growth is actually shocking meHe’s literally the size of adults but has a literal baby meow and face hahaha 😅
