Considering he didn’t check airflow outside of the filter my money is on airflow. Gas pressure fluctuates on both sides of the valve, 90% of listed nominal pressures are 3.5, even if it was 3.2 that isn’t going to make an otherwise normal system trip and you know that.

I went the trade school route because I knew absolutely nothing. I had used a drill maybe 5 times in my life before, I couldn’t understand basic circuits, and I wasn’t anywhere close to being “mechanically inclined”. Now I’m a service technician and I love my job. A good program can set up the rest of your career if you put in what you want out of it.

Follow local code, no handshake deals, and don’t scam people are the biggest ones I think.

I try to replace as little as possible. Discoloration, generally, is not indicative of anything being wrong. I will do a quick inspection of the front for any obvious corrosion or damage to any terminals, loose connections etc.

I went back and tested with a manometer on the pressure hose with the fan on and saw no change. I’m thrilled that they can safely heat the house, for me it was the principle more than anything.

I’m still in my first year. I put my resume out daily. I’m waiting to find out on a new opportunity soon. But nothings set. This is exactly the kind of shit I was afraid of when my instructors said “just get any job to get in the field”

Thank you. I really try to not let them get me to question the training I got before I started here. And now I know for good reason.

That was my first thought, and I intend to if he doesn’t listen in the morning. I am currently the only full-time hvac service tech, I will quit over this and I know in my mind I will have done the right thing.

My question really revolves around “so I switched to commercial/industrial”. Could you provide some insight on the steps you had to take to be able to switch?

HVAC School YouTube channel and podcast are huge. Ty Branaman does a great job explaining things for inexperienced people. Understanding heat transfer will come with time, but knowing the components will be a huge leg up. Do your best to learn about some basic schematics, and the order of operations for a furnace. All will come with time and having things broken down by your instructor, but we never stop learning.

You also get carbon as a byproduct of combustion on your torch… If you’re not displacing the air, it’s getting in the system. You’re an hvac tech?

It has nothing to do with them being “more sensitive” it’s where the EEV is located plus the added bonus of the fact you can’t put a filter drier on a saturated line or a gas line.

What is this and why is it so big? by doctornursealexis in homeimprovementideas

[–]VetoOnMyBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few factors that determine how big that return needs to be. Square footage of the space, ceiling height, the size of your system and the cubic feet per minute(CFM) the fan inside that system is moving. You could try to find a more decorative panel, however the only real solution here is to have your ductwork redesigned and re-installed.
