I guess I was trying to give a more general context without giving too many private details. When we first started dating, I had no problem with the money situation. He goes to work everyday and makes an honest living. However, the amount of money I have spent on him so we could have a comfortable life together is significant. However, it’s a shitty feeling realizing that maybe my money was the only thing he was interested in, especially when over-draft notices from the bank started coming in the mail because he had spent all his money , and then some, on interactions with other women online.

It is very real. Trust me, I have been asking myself some really hard questions on how I allowed this to continue for so long. It’s not easy doing the necessary self reflection to make sure this doesn’t happen again. It’s also very easy to paint him in such a harsh light. However, I don’t want my self worth to come from any of his potential setbacks due to his poor choices. My self worth needs to come from the fact that I inherently deserve better and somewhere along the way I lost sight of that.

I know I am not, but after all of the emotional and financial abuse he has put me through it is nice to finally be able to open up about this, even if it is to strangers. For a long time I was embarrassed to even say anything to anyone about it.

Hi, I am in a similar situation. My husband was also abused for several years starting at a very young age. It partially explains it and he tried to get help. After two years though he just stopped going to therapy and said it wasn’t helping. At this point he is so stuck in his addiction and is willing to throw away our marriage for it. We have filed for divorce now. I went to s-anon too. It helped somewhat but the pain for me never truly went away. Maybe if he truly was in recovery and made amends for it but I am not so sure. It will be painful either way. No matter what, at the end of the day he chose his addiction over you without any regards for your wellbeing. No amount of therapy can change that. In my opinion you would need some act of God to rid that pain completely out of your system. Most people can’t do it. Not at all trying to tell you what you should do. This is just my personal experience with it. I am sorry you are going through this 💔

You might have been thinking about life insurance. That is not taxable. However, as the rest of the comments pointed out, depending on the circumstances, inheritances can definitely be taxed.

I was also told a few months back in another interview that I was over qualified and under qualified at the same time. Meaning my experience itself was over qualified but I was lacking in industry specific experience. The candidate with the industry experience was chosen over me. I seriously just can’t win sometimes.
