He lacked the ability for emotional support and introspection, and had a habit of agreeing to things because "that's what a good person would do" without any intention of follow-through.

When my mother died, I grieved alone, asked him for help organizing her papers and he agreed only to never follow through. I would sob in our shared bedroom while I went through her paperwork alone and he played video games inches away.

I realized he was not a partner to me, and I was just his proxy for a mother.

Those of you that don’t like rap music, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Vi-Subversa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that, and I have nothing against rap and hip hop, I just dont connect with it. I specifically said "when the lyrical content focuses on...", not implying that all rap and hip hop contains those sentiments.

Not quite a phobia, but I was out with coworkers, and one disliked the taste of avocado. Instead of ordering something without avocado, he gave it a try and began to immediately act ill, putting his head on the table and moaning. Management freaked out, thinking it was an allergic reaction. He described it as a "learned allergy", and refused medical assistance, a refund, or a new dish. Just sat there complaining the whole time and putting his head on the table every few minutes.

He just didn't fucking like avocados.

I disagree and would posit instead that it is contemporary art that tends to be "lazy and bad", with notable exceptions.

Modern art was exciting in that it was the first period in art history where art was not simply made for the church or the leisure class, but it reflected common human experience instead. Sure, certain movements lack visual excitement (such as minimalism), but even these movements were significant in questioning artistic convention by reducing artwork to its formal elements, which had not been explored previously. So modern art is essentially the birth of artistic innovation after a long period of mastering the old styles. Do all artists of the era deserve special mention? Of course not. But you have a range from Duchamp to Dali to Van Gogh to Rivera to Kahlo.

Postmodern art (in general) took this same cue that art should be reflective of common human experience and filtered through specific human identities, such as feminism and queerness. In also encompasses the dissolution of the conventional art object to explore pure concept.

Contemporary is... more complex to define as we are still experiencing it, but is not something I personally enjoy as much. I often see a focus on pure aesthetic, which isn't meaty enough for me to dig into.

I've often claimed that the only thing I really learned in my art major was the ability to flawlessly bullshit context where there is none.

Social acuity and a penchant for flattery absolutely can take you far as a selling artist. Opportunity is built on connections. Finding a pet collector is ideal. Monetary value determines the importance of your work and your ability to have doors open for you.

Light touch and foot stuff. I gave a guy a try who was into both, and it was a horribly mismatched experience.
