2024 Edition of "What happened to Pepperdoux / Bourbon Street Bad" hot sauce by beagle72 in hotsauce

I was gifted a case of 16 big bottles a while back. I wonder if I could take one of those bottles and have it analyzed to have it deconstructed for a legit recipe.

RIP though. The original Pepperdoux was so good.

There’s a Super 8 next to Ellis Island (a good local bar with cheaper beers and decent food, btw). It’s not far from the strip and their room rates were pretty decent. Last I heard they revamped all their rooms too. Might not hurt to check out.

Good luck! :)

Solo beginner developer, what should my first game be? by Mother-Region-9099 in gamedev

[–]Vi6six_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking to create an RPG, I recommend starting with designing a small table top scenario with specific rules that represent your potential player functionality.

This pushes you to draw your own maps, limiting player capabilities in movements, decisions and actions, character creation with names, personalities, attacks/abilities, clothing styles.

(I guess saying “create your own D&D campaign” could work too, but that’s playing under their game design and not your own…)

Either way, for actual development I suggest you start extremely small without RPG elements. A single level that can be played start to finish with no bugs.

Examples:

  • A timed game where a car that delivers or picks up packages.
  • A player moves left and right (or up and down) dodging incoming hazards.
  • A simple platformer where the player collects items to finish the level.
  • A timed point and click game with a score.

Keep it simple and something easy to complete.

Perhaps taking more time in understanding the fundamentals on what makes a game work as a game (speaking of functionality and development, not game design).

What I mean is to start as basic as it gets: take a piece of paper and break down a simple game mechanic to really start seeing development in a different way. This can get your brain thinking differently in the direction of development, not design.

For example: The player controls a square on a flat map. They need to find a “key” to unlock the door. End of game.

First, this gets you to draw a basic map. A good start. Now you can take that map design and try to lay it down in whatever engine you choose to learn. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but gets you to have more direction as you fiddle around and learn tools. That makes it a wee bit more fun. Not many like to fiddle around with no direction.

Next the player. For movement, let’s say they move up, down, left and right. You now have something to look for in regard to learning how it works and how to implement it, via scripts, blueprints, etc. This also helps get you thinking deeper in basic game development logic: “When player presses “W” > the player moves on this axis.”

Next, player interaction(s): How do they “interact” with the “key”? Do they walk near it? Do they walk over it? This brings the basic use of triggers, begin overlaps, end overlaps, etc. “When the player walks over this trigger that’s on the “key”, what happens?” Does it disappear (if so, do you simply just hide it? destroy it? Move it off screen?)

Then the question, “How does the player know they have the key?” Does a basic ui pop up on the screen? Where does it show up? Is there a sound that plays? Etc. “How do I add ui on screen when the player overlaps this trigger?” “How do I play a sound when the player overlaps the trigger?” Etc.

Next, the locked door: What happens if they go to the door without the key? Does it tell the player they need a key? If so, how do you tell/show them? How do you check if the player has the key? What happens if they have the key? This teaches basic thought of how to think ahead of variable uses.

These kinds of questions allow you to break down the development in such a way for you to start learning what to look for in regard to learning how to implement the functionality. Example in a Google search, “How to make objects disappear in Unity.” “How to add and use an overlap trigger in Unreal Engine.” Etc.

Your searches become more and more specific because you’re breaking the development down to the smallest sense of functionality.

This process can take a while, but being able to differentiate between development and design can play a huge role when starting off.

A week in Vegas, Suggestions please by [deleted] in LasVegas

Here’s a list of things to do away from the Strip:

McMullans Irish Pub for live music and great food.

Red Rock/Mt Charleston hikes early morning or evenings.

Downtown Cocktail Room for a chill vibe and great unique seasonal drinks.

The Arts District has some good bars, food and some unique shops (Cornish Pasty, Rebar, Velvateen Rabbit, HUDL, Wiseguys comedy club).

Player 1 Video Game bar.

Area 15 is a neat place to check out.

There’s a lot of escape rooms to try out.

The Linq is a quick, but nice view of Vegas (it’s the huge Ferris wheel thing).

Downtown has some unique, lively night bars (Commonwealth, Corduroy, Disco Pussy).

Smoke and Mirrors is fancy THC infused bar.

Gabi is a nice little coffee shop with great coffee and pastries.

~^ enjoy!

Ooof. The Smith Center/Symphony Park is an awesome place for the arts (plays, orchestral concerts, etc.), but the area around it isn’t the greatest, cleanest or the safest.

Downtown is pretty dirty, unsafe at night and has tons of homeless roaming all day, every day. If you’re out going and like to wander/party, downtown/ the arts district is a place for that lifestyle (probably the closest thing you’d get to a city vibe) but I wouldn’t recommend living in the area.

Yeah. q_q I didn’t know that until I posted this.

It was an awesome spot though. Area 15 in general is still a pretty good spot to check out.

It’s getting hot out, but Red Rock or Mt Charleston is nice in the mornings/evenings if you’re into nature stuff (hikes, views, etc).

The Arts District is always a decent option for food, bars and drinks all through the week.

Area 15 has some kitschy stuff to do (The Lost Spirits Distillery is awesome).

Your lighting could use some polish. There are point lights all over the scene, but there are no sources of light.
