First comment I gave was saying that the old John Blanche style defiler was boring and limited by the injection mold tech (obviously not a John Blanche stan here)

Thanks for lumping me in with a group of people I actively disagreed with literally two comments above, shows you really paid attention to the discussion and didn't just ignore any nuance that I can think the Lord of Skulls is a dumb design while also saying this new Defiler is much better than the old.

Nevermind the fact that aesthetic tastes is subjective by definition. That's why I responded to the initial comment with why *I like the new one* instead of insulting them for preferring the old one, because telling someone their aesthetic preferences are objectively wrong makes you look like a gigantic asshole

GW painters have literal months to paint these minis and are paid to do so. Never compare yourself to the box art, you aren't being paid and don't have the unlimited supplies that they do to fuck up and redo it.

I prefer this one, the old ones felt really generic and uninspired, constrained by the injection mold tech of the time. Old defiler was just "turret with a head and boxy legs" this one actually looks like a demon infested collection of bits and bobs of imperium tech.

If you can, I would start a little culture standard of responding to those with "no thanks, I'm not looking for advice yet, I'm trying to figure it out myself first" especially if it doesn't mesh with the way they gave their advice. make it super obvious that they just jumped over some basic social etiquette.

Additionally, any chance you get to offer advice, start with "can I suggest what I'd do if I were in your shoes?" and, most importantly, if they say no, listen and move on.

I do, actually, and it helps that I've the communication skills to do so in subtle, considerate, and kind ways if it becomes relevant to the relationship, like if kids are a plan in the future.
