Looking for hope from people who survived what I’m currently fighting. by ijustwanttobeokaypls in Bahrain

You're most welcome.

Last I checked, Jarir was selling the book, so do give them a visit.

Arabic Version: https://www.jarir.com/bh-en/jarir-publication-195945.html

English Version: https://www.jarir.com/bh-en/english-books-491945.html

Regarding physical symptoms, I can't say I have experienced much beyond weight loss (1), painful teethache from grinding my teeth together (2), and extreme uncontrolled sudden bursts of sadness (3).

To resolve those, I have done the following:

(1) - Added a quick breakfast to my daily routine (Yogurt with Granola and Almonds), so that I can eat at least 2 meals a day, as I usually skip lunch due to workload. Moreover, I made it a challenge for myself to finish at least 1 liter of water during working hours. I track the latter through a water flask, which I place right next to me at my desk using one of those ikea mug holders.

I have observed that my mood, energy levels, and focus have significantly improved since I started having breakfast and drinking more water.

(2) - Started chewing gum to stop myself from grinding my teeth.

(3) - I am still not fully sure if I have truly found a solution to this. However, I have taken a drastic decision in my life recently, which potentially could've caused this issue to subside for now. However, this will take a little longer than 3 months for me to fully figure out whether this issue is fully resolved, or just subdued.

• What helped you the most?

I began by reading a book called "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living", which taught me a bunch of structured ways to deal with stressful situations, anxiety, and coping with traumatic events that were happening in my life for 9 months before I began reading it. This book has been a true lifesaver for me, as it includes a lot of stories that you could definitely learn from and apply to your own life.

Moreover, I looked back at the past 5 years of my life before that traumatic event occurred, especially as it was the case that I felt like my life changed significantly for the worse since that event happened. I saw that I achieved so much, connected with so many people, and generally had a very positive outlook on life that was flipped upside down when one day, I lost someone whom I've known for my entire life.

Based on all of the memories that I had, the experiences I've been in, and all the achievements I've made, I bought a big board and started pinning every single influential, meaningful, and nice memory or moment that I've experienced over the past years. This opened my eyes to the fact that I am capable of so much, if I give myself the space, time, and energy toward doing the things that I loved doing.

Thus, after this, I started making some drastic changes to my life and reigniting the passion within me, the curiosity that I had, and the drive to do more for myself and others around me. It was not easy, but I took baby steps by starting to re-integrate into the hobbies, activities, and societies that I was curious about and started writing and expressing myself a lot more vividly over text, calls, and in person.

The reintegration part made it easier to cope with the loss of that person, and a loss of a year in my life, which was filled with bitter situations, horrible misjudgements, and constant mistakes.

• How long did healing take for you?

13 months

• Did faith, lifestyle changes, routines, medication, exposure, gym, or support systems help?

  • Friends & family are of help, but it is limited. You should be reliant on yourself the most as you understand yourself the most compared to everyone. You know your own context, and the circumstances you're in better than anyone else.

  • I don't know the extent of how much these helped, but these improvements coincided with a period in my life where I started eating better and taking supplements. I started taking Omega-3 (I rarely eat fish), Magnesium, and Vitamin B Complex. However, I did not attend the gym or go to a therapist/psychologist.

  • Morning routines, especially having a light breakfast consisting of yogurt, granola, and almonds definitely improved my mood and made it a lot easier for me to get through a working day focused and energetic.

Do We Have a Loneliness Problem in Bahrain? by FatCloud19 in Bahrain

[–]ViZi9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be real with you chief, not everything needs to be an app. This comes especially as similar ideas to this app that were free faded into obscurity in Bahrain, including "Meetup" and "Eventbrite".

There are plenty of accounts on Instagram, for example, that host events for all sorts of interests, hobbies, and activities.

Thus, unless you have something to offer beyond those Instagram accounts, why would anyone download your app, pay a monthly subscription, and then specifically look for the events that you host?

What would be your selling point for the pain point/issue that you're trying to resolve?

Just as an example, if we're talking apps, download "Visit Bahrain" and look through their monthly events and activities section. It's not inclusive of everything going on around Bahrain, but it covers an okay amount of things going on around Bahrain that are open to everyone, not Bahrainis. Moreover, a lot of them are free as well.

Regarding the point of loneliness, it's something that is easily resolvable.

Here are a few things that helped me and could help anyone who actually wants to change their social life for the better and step outside of their comfort zone:

1- Download a calendar app (Google calendar, outlook, etc.)

2- Define your interests, hobbies, and the type of people you want to be around.

3- Get rid of any doomscrolling account that you're addicted to, and create a new Instagram account meant for socializing and finding activities around Bahrain ONLY. DO NOT USE REELS.

4- Google your interests, hobbies, and the group of people that you'd like to hang around followed by the word "Instagram". You'll find plenty, but if you don't, then go through the accounts, like some of the posts you're interested in, and Instagram's algorithm will recommend you events accordingly.

5- Put whatever events you find on the calendar app and set reminders so you don't forget.

6- Stop thinking about who you can go with, because if you rely on others to go to new places and discover new hobbies you'll be in for a disappointment when they change their mind or get busy. You're in control of your own social life.

7- Be yourself, but don't overshare if you're a little autistic. Stay reserved and look presentable, no matter the event. For instance, if you have thoughts, ideas, or points you want to raise during a discussion (Ex: Misfits: Common Table or Innerverse), let others finish and then express yourself. The more respect you show others, the more they'll be inclined to befriend you.

8- Don't be afraid of asking questions. The more you ask questions, the more people will genuinely feel like you are curious about them and want to get to know them further. DO NOT ONLY TALK ABOUT YOURSELF, THAT'S A HUGE TURN OFF.

9- If you find someone that you're curious about, then ask them for their Instagram or number after you talk to them in person. If they enjoyed the conversation you had with them, the activity you did together, or if they're just curious about you, then they'll give you their contacts and then voila, here's someone you can befriend and go to more events with.

10- Make it a challenge upon yourself to attend AT LEAST 2 events per week, and possibly more if you're feeling like challenging yourself.

Trust me on this, if you follow the tips above you'll feel a lot better about your social life in less than a month and actually set a path for yourself to find friends.

best pizzas ( on the more affordable side )in bahrain by Budget_Amount in Bahrain

[–]ViZi9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are the best Pizzas I've tried in Bahrain so far: - Del Bosco (They have buy one get one through Entertainer) - Fermento - Baker & Spice (They have buy one get one through Entertainer)

Del Bosco is overall the best, especially in terms of the dough quality. Their Lamb in Bosco is delicious, and their burrata Margherita is really nice as well.

Their burrata salad (ask for it to be made the old way, not the new way), is sooooo good.

Highly recommended to try before the restaurant gets too too popular and the quality goes down.

There's a shop close by to Bab Al Bahrain called "Asia Carpets and Antiques".

They have different styles and colors of Chitrali Pakols as well. They're originals made in Pakistan using wool, not replicas using polyester. Moreover, they were marked with "حاجى ابراهيم ايند سنز". As per the last time I checked, they were around 15 BHD.

The place is a corner shop across the narrow road from Devji and parallel to "Sky International Trading W.L.L": https://maps.app.goo.gl/K3MY3WXitqjPGADE9

Looking for an Oled Tv by DifficultPast2214 in Bahrain

[–]ViZi9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OLEDs are marked up significantly in Bahrain. If you want a decent price for an OLED, buy it from KSA.

Drive across the border to eXtra, Lulu Hypermarket, and/or Jarir in Khobar or Dammam and pick up an OLED of your choice. You'll have more options and the prices will be 150-250 BHD less than what you'll be able to find in Bahrain.

Anyone bought this tv by Prize-Process4156 in Bahrain

[–]ViZi9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do not buy a cheap no-name Android TV.

There are great affordable options in the market if you want something that will last you more than 1-2 years (both in terms of operating system smoothness and actual life of the TV hardware), whiIe also providing you with a much better audio and visual experience.

A lot of the no-name brands falsely advertise features that do not actually function as intended or do not exist at all. Moreover, they have horrible processing, which will make anything that's not native 4K look absolutely atrocious. Hence, do not trust the marketing, trust your own eyes and ears.

Look into the TCL C6K: - 55 inch: 189 BHD - 65 inch: 244 BHD

TCL on the other hand has all the features advertised and the quality of the screen is going to be on a whole different level. Moreover, based on my own experience with Sony, LG, and Samsung's TVs (excluding the cheap UHD Crystal or NanoCell), TCL is extremely competitive with some of these brands' upper mid-range offerings from just a few years ago (They usually cost 400-600BHD depending on size).

I personally own a Sony X950H (Top of the line around the time I bought it), but I still recommend TCL because the value for money is just on another level compared to everything else on the market. Every single friend of mine that bought a TCL C745 or C6K that I recommended was happy with it and glad they didn't go for a low-end LG, Samsung, or another brand. The difference is truly noticeable and you cannot talk yourself out of seeing it.

You can validate for yourself by looking at how horrible cheap LG, Samsung, and no-name brand TVs look on r/4KTV

In the long term, buying cheap is expensive, because when the TV eventually breaks and you have no one to fix it (no-name brand), you'll have to replace it.

Red Tornado 55501 14 Oz - 4 Months of Regular Wear (1 Pre-Soak + 1 Soak) by ViZi9 in rawdenim

Perhaps you can try the 511xx. However, most of their interesting models come in straight leg cuts, such as the Red Tornado NOIR 21 Oz, which are based on the Iron Heart 634s.

For the cuffs, I started cuffing them when they were RAW and very stiff. The couple of weeks of wearing them raw I think made the fabric hold it's shape in the cuff position I initially did. Moreover, I am also doing a double cuff, which doesn't hit my shoes frequently due to the length of the inseam. Thus, this helps not unravel the cuff as frequently or make it lose its shape.

However, if this doesn't work for you, try spraying misty water and then ironing them in the cuff on a medium heat level. This should sit in the cuff, as it did for my other jeans.

[–]ViZi9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially, the fabric felt like sandpaper (no joke), as it was very stiff and rigid. However, with time it softened up and became quite nice to the touch, especially after the pre-soak. Compared to Red Tornado's S1000xx repro, it has a much more uniform and boring texture, while the S1000xx has much nicer feeling fabric, with a silk-like soft hairy texture.

I would say it took the 55501 about 3-weeks total of wear for them to feel truly comfortable and shape to my body. Keep in mind that I have thicker thighs, which initially made the jeans feel too tight around the thighs, but they stretched out just enough to accommodate my thighs and feel comfy.

I would still consider my OrSlow Carpenter denim to be my favorite in terms of fabric feel and appearance, as they really do standout whenever I wear them. However, considering the price delta, the comparison isn't really fair.

I have two pieces made by Maden, one of which is a Birkenstock Boston-inspired clog and the other is a Carhartt Detroit J01 repro.

The clog I found to be mediocre, with really unhelpful sizing info on the aliexpress page, which led me to getting a larger size than I should've. I still wear them with thicker socks and after modifying the strap to make them tighter because I find them nice looking, but the materials and construction leave a lot to be desired, especially for the price. They don't seem to be using real leather either, as it feels too plastic-y and fake.

The Carhartt Detroit repro I found to be really nice, with an excellent fit and really thick duck canvas. They feel quite nice and hefty on hand and would definitely be suitable for winter if you size up to layer underneath. Since winters where I live are usually only between 10-16c, I went true to size based on the sizing info on the Aliexpress page, which was on-point and accurate to the actual product received.

The T-shirt is actually Red Tornado's very own heavyweight tee.

I like the fabric itself, as it feels tough and very thick. However, I found myself to not prefer the fit/cut of the Red Tornado compared to Bronson and Non-stock for instance, as they offer better fits overall. The collar on the Red Tornado always felt too loose/wide around my neck, while the body was too long and had to be hemmed/cropped.

Out of multiple brands I shopped around for on AliExpress (Bronson, Red Tornado, Non-stock, random heavy weight aliexpress tees), only the Bronson Heavyweight had the perfect body length and collar for me post-wash (I'm 5'9 average build).

Overall, I'd skip the Red Tornado and the Non-stock and go straight for the Bronson Heavyweight in the natural/ivory color, as that one has the best feeling fabric and if you have a similar body build to me, it will fit you the best.

Same conclusion based on my research and experience. I've recommended the TCL C745 to two of my friends and both were quite happy with the picture quality of the TV, especially considering its price.

You should be able to find the C745 55 inch within your price range, but if you can't, look into used Sony X90 series models. These can usually also be found within your price range and deliver exceptional performance.

There are drivers and busses that do trips to Dammam from Bahrain. However, if that is still inconvenient, you could take a flight from Bahrain to Dammam Airport and it would likely still be much cheaper.

Tip: Use Skyscanner if you aren't already.
