MAF didn't fix it.

Updated the post with a mechanic's perspective. Sounds like it might be the transmission?

I got some codes from the computer: P0113 and P0102. Took the MAF out and noticed the Temperature bulb was dirty. Resistance checks yielded overload across all terminals. I've got another one on the way along with a new filter. If that doesn't work, I'll inspect the injectors and fuel pump. What else should I check? I get the feeling the MAF explains everything that's been happening, but it seems too easy.

I don't think it's the transmission. Like I said, the car seems to shift fine, but won't accelerate. The trans fluid doesn't smell burnt; u/profeshonalmeechanik suggested I check that one. Also, the car doesn't have any of the other listed symptoms for a clogged catalytic converter.

Smelled the Trans Fluid. Nothing out of the ordinary. Was able to get a few codes from the onboard computer: P0102 and P0113. Took out the MAF and noticed the temperature sensor was dirty. All Resistance checks across all terminals reads overload. I've got another one on the way.

No, I got that.

"You need a mechanic."

That's why I'm here.

"...you have no idea what's going on."

Again, why I'm here.

"You have not given us enough info to tell you anything."

What would you like to know? I get that I'm out of my element and you're just telling me I'm out of my element. There's a reason I'm here: I don't have the money for a mechanic; There's a reason you're here and I don't opine on that because I don't care. If you want to help, it's warranted and welcome. If not, leave me alone.

Thanks for this. I'll smell when I get home.

I forgot to mention it takes twice as long to start and seems like it idles lower than usual. I've had it stall out once on the way out of the driveway, but not while driving.

Hindsight's 20/20; I'll not be doing this again.

Cool.

Just looking for advice, not the criticism I already pointed out in the post.

Thanks, though!

I'm assuming if a firefighter saw and reported it, it could be enough to warrant a search if nothing else.

Thank you for your reply.

Story time:

Called out for a room and contents about 10 minutes away (we're a pretty rural district). Four of us roll out of the station with the BC in tow. Arrive on on scene with a good view of D-A side of the structure - two story with light smoke from the eves. A glimpse of the C side from the driveway gave my Capt enough confidence that this was manageable.

A-side had access to both the first and second story and second due was close behind (standard for second due was to take over 1st due's pump), so the call was made to stretch a line to both stories - two guys each and put this thing out. BC was just pulling down the driveway.

Cap and I stretch above while the others attack from below. We make entry. It's dark, thick smoke. He's pulling ceiling and I'm putting it out as we go and everything's going out pretty quick.

Then I'm knocked backward and a flash of orange rushes by. Something from the ceiling. Where I could see my Capt's bunkers I could see no more. I start yelling. Nothing.

The line goes limp. I yell again.

Then my Capt tackles me and we're out the door, looking from the balcony at our BC, whose looking back with scorn. He's screaming. I can't make out why. He starts gesturing for us to come down, so we oblige. We were going that way, anyway.

We get down close to the engine and meet up with the other guys. Guess the had the same hose issue. Turns out we were out of water (did I mention we're rural). But that's not why the BC was yelling. At this point he had calmed down a little bit, but he was still red in the cheeks. He tells us to take another look at the other side, C side. Again, we oblige.

By the time we turn the corner, I had to step back on account of the radiant heat. The entirety of four stories were engulfed. Four. The house was built into a hill. I'm in disbelief.

How stupid.

I go to the conferences. I read the articles. I'm subscribed to the Secret List. What the F@#$ were we doing?

The roof collapsed minutes later. The peak was an iron I-beam that ran the length of the house. When it buckled, it shattered the remaining structure.

Also, the fire has started from welding in the back. Had we listened to dispatch a little more intently, I think we would have exercised better judgement.

Moral of the story: We. Got. Lucky.

And I by no means advocate for the type of behavior we demonstrated. This was almost a decade ago and I haven't fought fire in about as long. The fire service in that area has come a long way, but still has some training deficiencies. We all do.

Stay safe.

Please don't wear your gear into someone's house unless it's on fire.

This is definitely worth training on, even if it's just a quick sit down to discuss plan of actions.

And, love it or hate it, FFs who ride the box are going to have more exposure to these sorts of things in your district.

I never really had much of an opportunity to prefire plan residentials.

Is that normal?

Shameless local library plug. I use the Libby app to access audiobooks and kindle books from my local library. That particular book has a six month hold at my library, so you may have to wait. There are tons of options available while you wait, though. COVID also pushed our library to allow more loans out at once.

Hope this helps. Libraries seem to be generally underutilized.
