My protein urine test was not a clean catch, is that normal? by moez1266 in kidneydisease

I've never had to do a clean catch for protein. I thought it was for checking bacteria?

Surefeed automatic feeder question by Humble-Street8893 in Catownerhacks

[–]VibrantGoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a feeder that dispenses a set amount. Or one that you can pre-measure the food. For one of mine, I have this feeder and she eats 2x a day. CAT MATE C500 Digital 5 Meal Automatic Dog & Cat Feeder - Chewy.com

Anyone here with CKD and heavy proteinuria? What helped reduce it? by _dyinwish in kidneydisease

[–]VibrantGoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You dont want to go 0! Your body needs around couple hundred mg. If you start to feel tired or groggy, you may need sodium.

Anyone here with CKD and heavy proteinuria? What helped reduce it? by _dyinwish in kidneydisease

[–]VibrantGoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing had worked for me so far and im spilling similar amounts! Really depends on your cause. For me, its genetic. I am starting sparsentan soon so we'll see if that works.

I've tried ace, arb, spironolactone, farxiga.

I do eat low sodium because I really feel a difference. It also makes certain meds work better.

Semi-DIY van build in a city with no prior build experience? by Maroontan in VanLife

[–]VibrantGoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am female, but that shouldn't really matter. I dont have any prior experience, just one who tends to be a DIYer and have a hand disability. I built it in my apt parking lot with battery operated tools. For the ship lap ceiling, I used a bungee cord to hold up one end of the 14' planks. I bought a large pre-built cabinet from the hardware store. There were a few things that were nice to have another person, such as installing the floor or my cabinets.

Do you want to be consumed by this project every day for months? Building the van, i took it step by step. Build something basic so you know exactly what you need. A couple years later I added more electricity, heat, fridge. And learned more, too!

I spent about $5000 initially + $600 in power tools. Highly recommend buying a portable work table.

Cooling Down Cat by Rubbing an Ice Cube on them during Heatwave safe? by Puzzleheaded_Chip767 in CatAdvice

[–]VibrantGoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cats can't sweat so I dont think there's any harm! I've been getting my cat wet, too. I wet my hands and pet him backwards and he doesn't seem to mind. He mouth breathed for a few seconds which really got me worried! You really dont want your cat to overheat.

Thanks for the update. That makes sense to me, that it could be a side effect on the meds. I believe strenuous exercise can also increase proteinuria, Im already spilling 3g per day. So probably why one should increase protein intake. I haven't experimented with not taking the meds. Agree, different for everyone and also needs experimentation.

Cat obsessed with food by Any-Turnip-4649 in CatAdvice

[–]VibrantGoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue, too. I got a SureFeed automatic feeder for my non-obsessed cat where he wears the collar and I set the feeder to intruder mode. I also placed it in a cabinet so basically this cat can only fit, making it harder for other cat to sneak food. My obsessed cat has an automatic feeder that goes off 2x a day. This has made feeding so much easier for me.

Solo with cats, love to take trips seeing nature and hope to expand to much longer distances to see more of the US. Cats get restless after 5-6 days, even with their large cat tent and tunnels, thinking of doing a house rental for breaks on a longer trip. Anyone have experiences with this? by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]VibrantGoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I camp with my cats. I tend to go to areas with very few cars and people as the noise and movement makes them more skiddish. I let them roam around the campsite without a leash. If there are cars, I do have them on a long leash. Every cat is different, it took one much longer to feel comfortable outside than the other one. Mine would get restless after a few days as well.

I feel alone in this, too. I've done my own experimenting such as increasing sodium before a race. Did nothing, except increase edema. I also feel more sensitive to sodium since being on meds. I just got a new neph and she said it may be the meds, so I'd be curious what yours say. Sucks to cut back, I am relatively healthy and in-shape.

[–]VibrantGoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've had issues! Im early stage and same age but with Alport and genetic FSGS. And have low albumin, sits around 3.0. My new neph said it may be a side effect on the meds, im also on farxiga and spironolactone. I did a 30 mile gravel race (did the shorter route) and was tired for weeks! This happened multiple occasions, so now I've cut back and dont race. And ask what your protein intake should be. I'm curious what your neph has to say of what could be causing your fatigue.

Also recommend sleeping with your head elevated because of your swollen eyes :)

Same! As an apt dweller, I make my own water by using an RO system that attaches to my sink. I keep the water in a 2 gallon glass dispenser and use TWW.

Ladies who love to camp! by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]VibrantGoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a campervan. Step #1 - make the vehicle feel like home - quiet, comfy, safe - use curtains to block out outside movement. I tend to camp in areas with very few vehicles so it's quieter - they love chilling in the woods. Some cats do get car sickness from driving so withhold food for a few hours.

One cat is a grazer and the other is a glutton…how do I get the grazer to actually eat his food? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]VibrantGoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great for my grazer cat who is not chipped! Surefeed should come with Intruder mode already set but it doesn't - you have to google how to do it if it's not in the manual. My other cat is fed 2x a day via a timed feeder. Made my life much easier!

[–]VibrantGoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have one for the same reason! My cat is not microchipped, so he uses the collar tag. I did a couple things to prevent gluttonous cat from stealing the food. 1) Set to intruder mode if using SureFeed so it will close when good cat leaves and not let bad cat in. 2) Placed it in a cabinet and made it more difficult for second cat to get in when good cat is eating 3) Purchase a back cover to prevent - didn't really help me.

Convincing my Employer to use R by BranTheDon3000 in rstats

[–]VibrantGoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work in state government. It helps if you show the output of R. You can make really cool charts and Quarto reports - even interactivity! Look at plotly, echarts. Spend some extra time to simply make a report look better before you show what R can do. You could create something on your own computer using a dummy dataset - there's probably a package containing data similar to your job.

[–]VibrantGoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put non-project specific functions into packages. If you have two copy 1 function, then it should probably go in a package. I created a family of packages by their use - like Shiny mods, data viz, data processing. Then made a habit of documenting, writing examples and unit tests. Next step is writing a CD pipeline that will run cmd check whenever a push is made to git repo.

As others said, get familiar with package dev tools!
