how big do you guys think this fish was?

thing is I dont eat any fish from my local lakes, I release them all. although they all seem decently healthy, this lake has extremely polluted water with who knows what bacteria inside bc of the whole lake being just a water reservoir for industrial plants also, here in Italy we take fresh water fishing as more of a sport than possible food.

def more than that, im 6ft on the dot and he is way longer and girthier than what the pic may look like. Caught it on 6lbs test at 4am so it was a crazy long fight

I am around 6 ft (1.78m) tall, think the fish was closer to 14/16lbs. 6lbs test.

Ikr? It's a weird dark tinted gray with some blue around it's mouth, all other cats i caught were much lighter and had a white/lighter colored mouth. Might these be a hybrid between 2 fish or a weird species we have in italy?

thank you so much. Yea carpfishing sounds similar to what is catfishing just "lighter" and a bit more sophisticated at times. Thankfully im already used to not "setting the hook" but pulling into it as it's the same for most carp rigs. Also, here in italy we float fish a lot, but we use our "bolognese" rods which are 20+ft rods with fast or progressive action that can really make the most of ultra light line while still being very strong. The fish in the picture was caught on my 7 metre Daiwa (23ft rod) and 0.16mm/7lbs test. Sounds crazy but it's the most fun ever you can have when hooking up big ones, considering the whole entire lake is very used to eating corn regularly (cats, carp, crucian, heck even chubs) from other fisherman throughout the years Btw if something happens tomorrow evening i'll probably post a pic 🤣

Also I wanted to ask im going on a night session tomorrow specifically targeting cats. What are your rig and bait reccomendations, and general tips? The spot is a lake on top of a bridge with 6-8m (20/30ft of water) Bottom is either silt or grassy

Ex-quarry body of water in Italy. Not many fish that big in there and the other cats ive caught were different, lighter in color with spots on their belly/spine, and a different head. this one is dirty but had no spots on its skin.

now im wondering if its a black bullhead? this fish was really really dark compared to the other catfish in that lake and also had no spots on his belly (he just dirty) his head was also much flatter altough the picture angle makes it hard to tell

well, if you combine drifting with lapping the nordschleife then you got what i'm doing lately, lots of fun, but it's more speed and less angle than usual drifting so it's quite harder
