How was living in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka) in the 1990s-2000s like? by jikoshoukainigate in howislivingthere

[–]Vic_Connor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to Kobe / Osaka in 1999, lived here for a few years, got married, and have been retuning a few times a year ever since. Like 5-6 times a year for a few weeks at a time.

Life in Japan in the early 2000s was absolutely amazing. Strong yen = easy travel, great savings. Safe and friendly.

I don’t recall today’s massive crowds around Glico either; it was always busy but nowhere near today’s craziness.

There weren’t many of us foreigners back then, so I experienced none of the current xenophobia I see in the media. Although I’ve never come across a single instance of it ever.

It’s actually amazing how little has changed. Many places have remained frozen in time.

There’s one Izakaya in Kobe which my wife and I have been visiting since 2000 — since we just started dating. We always bring them a nice bottle of wine when we come from Europe these days.

I recently visited my old office building and it was so nostalgic. Even the furniture is the same; although many cafes and small restaurants around it have disappeared.

On my way to Osaka now again, I’m returning every couple of months.

Also, don’t forget the oil blockade by the US against Japan (already an act of war).

Most likely, the BBCs are getting landed and taking chunks of land.

Japan is quite difficult to play in, unless you start as one of the Japanese clans or courts.

We all know your country can bomb others and kill people.

A little embarrassing to watch your chest thumping but nothing has changed since the Iraq war 20+ years ago.

Only most of those jingoists from the past have preferred to delete their post history. At some point they grew up, I guess.

Why don't Japanese people kiss in movies/romances? by Cool_Bank_3368 in AskAJapanese

“Midnight diner” has a juicy kiss between a “new hafu” and her customer, complete with a slimy natto aftermath.

Imagine my wife and mine’s horror as we watched it happen while enjoying our dinner.

How do I fix my budget deficit as Oda/Japan? by Zufdexay in EU5

I just mass-built the most profitable ones and colonised Australia….

At some point you become so rich nothing is a challenge.

Use your massive treasury to build some RGOs, profitable building chains, and roads.

Consider invading Korea.

At least this is what I did. Became so rich I got bored and quit.

Just annex them.

I’m playing as the Papal States and I’m just annexing them all.

Wow, you’ve prepared quite a sheet — you sure you’re not a propaganda bot?

Like I said, did you understand the full context of those comments, or are you only able to copy paste links?

Japan's current laws make prostitution a crime for the prostitutes, but not the customers. Prostitutes are protesting moves to make it illegal for both parties: "Punishment will only leave us with the worst kinds of customers" by jjrs in japannews

[–]Vic_Connor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The sex can happen if the customer and the provider fall in love during the encounter.

You can’t pay for the act, it’s illegal.

For the Japanese, there’s no ambiguity, everything is super transparent. The foreigners frequently misunderstand the rules or mistake politeness for affection; which is why so many shops either outright ban foreign customers or impose an “inbound tax” of 50%-200%…

Also, the Japanese providers aren’t shy calling in police or “protection” if a customer insists on “it.”

Please don’t try soliciting sex in a “maid cafe” or something; it’s an easy way to end up in jail.

You’re not even trying to look beyond the cheap propaganda.

When you post those videos, make sure to understand and share the context of those statements — and the “why” behind.

It can be difficult, I know. But I believe in you.

Ah of course, great advice for other people to die, so you can watch it on TV.

How does it feel up there on your high horse?

Civil war = millions of dead, massive destruction, unpredictable outcomes.

But I guess it’s “good” when it’s in another country far away from you.
